DOES IT PAY TO OPERATE A MAIL ORDER BUSINESS IN THE SUMMER TIME?

Sounds like a pretty stupid question, doesn't it?  Well, it may, but a lot of folks in this business cut down on their advertising and direct mail promotions this time of the year.

I just received a letter today from a lady that said she always cuts down this time of the year with her direct mailings but she keeps up with her advertising.. To me this doesn't make sense.  People buy in the summer time, just like in the winter.  People want to join and promote money making programs in the summer as well as in the winter..

I know the folks that have joined my programs, under me, are not expecting me to stop promoting them until next Fall.  They want my help in building their down -lines NOW, not next Fall!

If anything, I think I'll step up my summer advertising and direct mail campaigns this summer..  Now that I've discovered postcard mailing, really works, I'll probably do a lot more of this type of promotion with my programs..

DO YOU WANT A FULL TIME INCOME FROM YOUR MAILORDER BUSINESS?

If you'd like to get out of bed in the morning when you want to.  If you hate those morning and evening drive time traffic jams just to get to and from work to eke out a pay day to pay day living.  If you want to make a full time living from your mail order business.  Then by gosh you're going to have to work it full time..  Not just in the Fall, Winter, And Spring, but all year!

If you're trying to get your business to the profit stage from your home, the only way anyone will know what you are selling, promoting, or working, is if you advertise it.  It's that plain and simple. By direct mail or by constant advertising in the industry publications or both.

If you live near a major city, and can get a daily newspaper from that city, look at the full page ads that some of the larger department stores run.  To me it's mind boggling!  I could never understand how Boscov's could advertise a full page of $1.99 items.  If you have no idea what I mean.  Write your daily newspaper for their advertising rate card.  Use you business letterhead to do so.  When you see what the rates are, you'll go bonkers..  A full page ad in the Harrisburg PA daily paper is about $1800.00 per page!  If you want it to run on Sunday, add about 50% to that!  That's just for one day, one page!

The folks that are responsible for ad- vertising for the store realize that they MUST continue to advertise to draw customers into their store.  They must reach thousands of people within their selling area...  I do realize now, after all these years, and running my own Auto Parts store and Auto Repair Garage for years, that a lot of the advertising done is for what they call 'lost leaders'.  A lost leader is an item that is sold for almost cost, or sometimes below cost, just to draw the customers into the store..  You'll notice that the 'lost leader' very cheap item that you stopped in for at the store is placed in the rear of the store.  You must walk past a lot of what they call in the business 'impulse items', before you get to your special sale item.  Many people will buy these 'impulse items' that are not on sale, just because seeing them reminded them that they needed them.  A can of motor oil, a pack of paper dishes for the Sunday picnic, etc.

What does all this have to do with your mail-order business?  What I'm trying to get across to you is that even though your advertising may not bring immediate results, believe me, folks are seeing your name and will be buying or joining with you in one of your endeavors eventually.  When they see your ads for months and even years, even though they have never purchased a darn thing from you, you'll become familiar to them and when they need what you have, or become interested in one of your programs, they'll feel more confident in joining under you or buying your product or service.  Believe me it does work this way..

You can build a mail-order business that will support you with a small investment as compared to what it would cost to open a conventional store, but you still have to invest some time and money in your venture.  Contrary to what a lot of the 'fast buck scam artists' would have you believe, you won't be able to buy their $20.00 book and this time next month be worth a million dollars..  As much as we all want to believe this farce, it just 'ain't' possible!!!

I'm living proof that you can operate a small mail-order business and make a full time income from your own home.  This is my income, period.  I don't draw a retirement check or Social Security check, etc.  Heck I can't retire yet, I'm only 57 years old.  I started with just a few bucks here and a few bucks there and kept re-investing.  Buying office equipment as I could afford it, etc.  You can do the same as me.  Now, that's what great about this business.  It's open to anyone who wants to put forth the effort and invest some bucks.  It sure doesn't cost much to learn this business.  You can get an education by just studying all the tabloids, magazines, and just plain Adsheets that you receive for FREE every day in the mail..  I remember back when I first got interested in this business.  I used to sit up late at night when all had went to bed, and read and study everything I could get my hands on.  I used to take the mail-order publications to work with me and read them at lunch break, etc.  I really got bit hard with the mail-order fever..  If you read enough and study enough, some- thing has to rub off on you..  I used to turn off the TV because is was distracting from my reading of mail-order stuff!   Now you know I had to really 'be into it' when I had to turn off "Cheers".

If you want to play in mail-order for a hobby, it doesn't matter much when you advertise or do direct mailings.  But if you want it to become your full time business, advertise, advertise, advertise, and then advertise some more!!!
