Today was another extremely
warm day here at the Blue Bird Cottage in Central Pennsylvania. It wasn't that
clear as it was kind of misty all day but it was a very nice day.
****************************************
Plenty happening today, besides work that is.. Today I've been working
all day getting the
Once A Month Association,
the Newsletter and the
Monthly Member Benefit
Directory, including the commission checks done. Although at this very
moment, it's not all done, it won't take that long to finish tomorrow morning
and get into the mail. That's a job all right and I always feel good when it's
completed.
Also, about mid day Betty
yelled for me to come look out at the river. I ran to the sliding glass door
that opens onto the porch and back deck and by golly there was a deer swimming
toward our back yard. He was really moving fast. When he got all 4 legs on
"terra firma" he took off at a dead run down river but before you could count
to 4 something must have frightened him as he came back up and literally flew
through our back yard and headed up river... Believe me, this was one scared
deer.
When Betty first called to me she told me to grab my camera but it all
happened so fast that I didn't even have a chance to get the darn thing out of
the camera bag.
All day I could hear hunters shooting on the mountain across the river from
us. So they must have really had all the deer stirred up for this animal to
swim clear across the river.
As you can see by the
above picture, the river is pretty wide. The closer trees that you see in the
picture are actually islands and are NOT the other side of the river...
Yes, this deer was really scared and just wanted to get away. However on the
front side of our house we are only several hundred yards from a "limited
access" super highway and I sure hope that he didn't end up running that way
or he surely would have not only "bought his ticket" but perhaps ending up
hurting a motorist..
Oh well, that was the main excitement attraction for mid day today here at the
cottage...
*******************************************
As I predicted the price of gasoline is on it's way back up and it's not
wasting any time... The little gas station down here in the small town of
Dauphin is run by Indians and they have just put their gas up pretty steady
since election day and when I went to the post office today, it was at $2.27 a
gallon already! Yep, I hate to say it, but it's definitely on it's way back up
and I haven't heard any excuses on any of the news programs on TV lately.
I'm sure that they have a good one and you can bet that it won't be because
the election is over.... That's for sure!
*******************************************
Betty and I stopped at the Weis store to buy water the other day as our water
in our well is supposed to be fit to drink but smells like heck. It didn't
when we first moved here over 20 years ago but over the years they built an
apartment building up the road from us and a lot of people moved in homes that
had been only populated by one person. I think it's the run off from the
septic tanks, but I can't prove it. However, we had it tested several times
and they say there is nothing at all bad in it and it's fit for human
consumption. That may very well be but this human is not consuming it, that's
for sure.
When I was putting the water into the cart I started to think of my dad.. Boy
would he ever have a fit if he knew that we were actually paying for bottled
water! My dad was one to always build a fireplace in any house that we lived
in so he could cut wood, and save on the heating bill, and that's back when
coal was like $9 a ton not almost $200 a ton like it is now.. Dad was
very frugal.. I wouldn't say he was at all cheap as when he did buy stuff it
was always the best that he could afford. But he did watch his pennies.
Of course if dad had to pay over $2 bucks a gallon for gasoline he would
probably have a heart attack anyway! (Ha!)
********************************************
Well, I have a few things to get done now before I rap it up here in the
office as tomorrow I want to get up a bit early so I can finish the
Once A Month Association
stuff. So, for me, it's back to work, and YOU, YOU have a
GREAT evening and a GREAT day tomorrow!
***********************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
The Shakers, a Utopian religious group that was at its height in the late
eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, were nearly self-sufficient and
quite innovative. Living in rural communes concentrated mostly in the
northeastern U.S., they made their own shoes, silk, and clothes. They invented
the circular saw, the common clothespin, and apple parer, the first one-horse
buggy, a four-wheeled dumpcart, a rotary harrow, the automatic spring, a
washing machine that later was used by hotels, and the needle with an eye in
the middle that later was adapted to the sewing machine!

It's a beautiful morning
here at the Blue Bird Cottage in Central Pennsylvania. The temps are supposed
to reach the lower 60's and sunny all day. That's way above normal for this
time of the year and I'm enjoying every darn minute of it.
****************************************
I had a couple of notes that I thought I'd better get posted here as it's
easier than mailing to all my customer's sometimes...
Those of you who have ordered advertising in my newsletter/magazine,
Chuck's Mail Order News & Opportunities, it's taking a bit longer than
necessary as I must re-write a complete issue.. Same with those of you who
have ordered Print & Mail jobs from me.. All should be on their way this
coming week so just hold on a bit longer...
I have the magazine about half done and hope to have it finished within a
couple of days.
Also, this is the time of the month that I am busier than usual with the "end
of the month" stuff that must be finished and mailed.
Like all the stuff for the
Once A Month Association,
the Newsletter and the
Monthly Member Benefit
Directory, including the commission checks. I will be starting work on
them probably by Monday. So I'll be in for a very busy week next week.
****************************************
I am going to take a little time to enjoy this beautiful weather too, as it's
supposed to be the same tomorrow as well on Sunday.
Hopefully I can soak up some of this sun as sunlight is good for you.
****************************************
Remember me, the guy that's always bitching how high the gasoline prices are?
Well, day before yesterday I pulled into the pumps at Costco's to fill up as I
thought I'd better take advantage of the prices now as they are beginning to
climb again and Costco's was still at $2.14 a gallon.
I got my cards all squared away and picked up the pump nozzle and began
re-fueling. When I was through I looked up at the pump and at how many gallon
I had just pumped plus how much the total was and holy cats I had punched the
wrong price of the fuel. I had just filled up with high test gasoline to the
tune of $2 and 30 some cents a gallon! Talk about a stupid mistake... I
haven't even mentioned this one to Betty as of yet...
Oh well, I guess no one is infallible, especially me!
Now that the holiday, at least Thanksgiving is over, maybe the prices will
drop again. I wouldn't hold my breath though as Christmas is pretty close....
******************************************
Well, as this IS Saturday and it's a little after noon time our post office is
closed, but the mail man hasn't picked up the mail from our mailbox as of yet
so there are a couple of things I'd like to get done so I can mail them today
yet......
So....... for me, it's back to work, and YOU, YOU have a
GREAT Weekend!!!
***********************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
Prior to takeoff, the "engine" was fueled with bananas, apples, hard rolls,
and one pint of water. The engine was the pilot himself, twenty-six-year-old
Bryan Allen, whose long, powerful legs pedaled a seventy-pound airplane, the
Gossamer Albatross, the twenty-three miles across the English Channel from
England to France in two hours and forty-nine minutes in June 1979. The plane,
which flew little more than a few feet above the waves, had a
ninety-six-foot-long wing made of Mylar .0005 of an inch thin. Two tiny wheels
weighing one ounce each and the landing gear!

HAPPY
THANKSGIVING!
Yep, today is turkey day and it's raining outside.. and cold! This year
weather wise, we've got a pretty screwed up day for our
Thanksgiving. But as
Thanksgiving has nothing
to do with the weather, I guess it really doesn't matter.
Betty and I will be headed down to her son John & his wife Debbie's house for
Thanksgiving dinner this
afternoon. She's the one that just loves Martha Stewart and sets a beautiful
table, and also serves a great turkey dinner. I'm really looking forward to
it!
I certainly hope that you have a great holiday and see many of your relatives
and have a lot of fun...
I know, as I do every year, have a whole lot to be thankful for, and this year
is no different. The fact that I'm still around for another
Thanksgiving is one good
reason to celebrate for sure!
I have many friends and a great way to make a living, so I know I'm pretty
happy with the way things are going.... I think most of us have a lot to
be thankful for......
****************************************
A friend of mine sent me a piece about our U. S. past history that I was never
aware of and I don't remember studying it in school either.. I see now,
that I'm grown, that our school only give us "white washed" history to learn,
and just partial stories. I guess when they taught us history they didn't tell
us anything negative about our "heroes" of the beginning of our country...
All our leaders are supposedly "tearing their hair out" trying to come up with
a solution as to what to do with all the Mexicans that are "pouring" over our
borders and screwing up our economy with lots and lots of them getting, almost
as soon as they arrive, help with their food, housing and medical bills... Gee
what are the congressmen to do? Is there a solution? They really act like
nothing this big has ever faced our leaders before.. Well here's the piece
that my friend has emailed me. I checked, and it is all correct. You can
easily check it out yourself!
PRESIDENTS HOOVER & EISENHOWER DEPORTED MILLIONS OF
ILLEGALS!
Here is something that should be of great interest for you to pass around. I
didn't know of this until it was pointed out to me. But, back during the Great
Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of all illegal
aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately
needed work.
And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 1.3 million
Mexican nationals! The program was called "Operation "Wetback" so that
American WWII and Korean veterans had a better chance at jobs. It took 2
years, but they deported them!
Now, if they could deport the illegals back then, they can sure do it today!!
If you have doubts about the veracity of this information, enter Operation
Wetback into your favorite search engine and confirm it for yourself.
Reminder…. Don't forget to pay your taxes...
12 million illegal aliens are depending on you!
Kind of makes you wander what the big deal is all about doesn't it? It might
take awhile, but it could be done. Also, once they see that they will be
shipped back, that will take awhile also, but eventually they'll get the idea,
why bother to come here at all! Once that is accomplished, I don't think we'll
even have to worry about constructing a wall!
Maybe our "leaders" should do a little studying of our U. S. history
themselves....
****************************************
Boy, this month is really "flying" by... It just seems like the days are
a blur... I think it's because the holidays are bearing down on us and
it doesn't seem that we'll have enough time to get everything done that needs
to be done...
The store's have gone SALE crazy...
Last evening, Betty and I was in Kohl's Department store and Betty was looking
at some pieces of clothing trying to decide which and how many she wanted to
buy for Christmas presents when a young fellow, a store employee, came around
with a shopping cart full of signs and put a new sign right up on the "rack"
where we were, that lowered the prices on the "stuff" that Betty was looking
at $3.00 cheaper each! We said to him, what about when we go up to pay
for them, what price are they going to be? Just tell them, he said, that I
just lowered them to this price and that's all you'll have to pay. He said he
was marking them down, preparing for BLACK FRIDAY
and that's why the prices were dropping! Wow, we got
BLACK FRIDAY'S prices on Wednesday evening!
Hey, we didn't argue with them, that's for sure!
******************************************
The gifts that we are sending away for that must arrive by mail, we are trying
to get the orders in as soon as we can, to give time for them to arrive. The
other gifts, we are trying to "take care of" when we go anywhere....
Hopefully, by the end of this month, we'll have our Christmas shopping done
and we'll only have to worry about getting out the Christmas cards out, which
Betty usually does herself. She has the lists and keeps them all
up-to-date.....
******************************************
I think I can smell that turkey dinner already and we have several miles to
get there, so for me, right now, I must get ready to go, and YOU,
YOU have a GREAT
Thanksgiving Day!
(I'll see you
right back here just as soon as I can! Okay?)
***********************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
Although some 200,000 surnames are used in Sweden, fully 40 percent of the
population share just twenty of them, all ending in "son." Johansson is the
most common name. The Swedish government urges people with the most common
names to change them. It has worked out a computerized list of
Swedish-sounding words and urges name changers to adopt new names drawn from
combinations of those for natural objects. Among the popular names in use are
Bergkvist ("rock-twig") and Malmstrom ("ore-river"). Names adopted from towns
or railroad stations are forbidden!

What a day today... It's
raining "cats and dogs" as I type this blog. We have a tornado watch from the
weather bureau up 'til 6 PM this evening. At the moment when I walk out doors
it already feels like I'm in the middle of a hurricane!
*****************************************
We just got back home a few minutes ago. Had to take a trip to the big city,
Harrisburg, to pick up some office supplies. Just as I predicted for the last
several weeks, the gasoline prices are well on their way back up... Just
since election day, Tuesday, November 6th, only a mere 10 days ago, gasoline
has risen an average of 9¢ a gallon! Yep, it's going up pretty darn fast.
The
elections are over for two more years and gasoline prices seem to be headed
back up again.
Conspiracy theorists will say, "I told you so." (That must be me!)
Gas prices had fallen roughly $1 a gallon since toying
with a new record high in late spring but now the average price is of a gallon
of regular is edging back up.
Almost 42 percent of American consumers are convinced the Bush administration
used its influence to drive gas prices down in advance of the elections,
according to a recent Gallup Poll. The poll also reported that Democrats were
far more likely to believe the gas price conspiracy theory than Republicans.
Oil industry executives ridiculed the story as rubbish, (Well, I guess
they would, is that a surprise for anyone?,) adding more
weight to the conspiracy in many consumers' minds. The oilmen pointed instead
to supply and demand theory as the primary explanation for the price declines.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, here comes back all the stupid excuses that they've
been spouting for the last few years.
Read the rest of this article by clicking here:
Post Election Gas Prices on the Rise
They're back to the same old "song and dance" routine aren't they? Let's hope
it takes awhile for the prices to get back up where they were although as fast
as they're going up now it won't be long..... So much for a Christmas present
from the Oil Companies.. No, I didn't expect them to send me a FREE gas card
or any kind of present. All that I was hoping for was for them to sell us some
gasoline a some fair prices that they could still make some profit without
"breaking our bank accounts." Apparently that was just a bit too much to ask
for.
*******************************************
I used to be proud to live in Central Pennsylvania near our Capitol City,
Harrisburg. Well I still like living in Central Pennsylvania, I'm just not too
sure about living near Harrisburg.. In the whole state it was listed as the
most dangerous city to live in! Even above Philadelphia which is many, many
times bigger than Harrisburg. Unbelievable.. Now, it seems that the city
of Harrisburg has a crises with their budget. In other words they are "out of
money" and say they, (Mayor Reed that is), that they can't pay the city
employees so they'll have to lay off some of them. They tried to borrow money
to make the pay roll but could only get about half of what they needed, around
7 million dollars I think it was. Of course the first people they started
talking about laying off were the Harrisburg policemen. Can you believe
that? The most dangerous city in Pennsylvania, and they're cutting the police
force! What a brainless bunch of morons!
The city owns a baseball team that they are now talking about selling. They
also own property like an island in the middle of the Susquehanna River that
they will sell. Also, at one time Mayor Reed wanted to open a "Wild West
Museum," no, I don't know why, either. But at that time, he bought up several
million dollars worth of artifacts to put in the museum that now, he says he
can sell to pay back the loan.
My question is, where was his brain before all this mess came to laying off
city workers? Why didn't he think about a year ago that he would have the city
in this mess at this time? I can't believe a guy that's been the mayor of the
city for 24 years didn't see this coming! Click here for the story of
Mayor Stephen Reed
With that much experience, you'd think he would have seen this whole mess
coming... Well, if Harrisburg is now the most dangerous city in
Pennsylvania to live, think what it's going to be after laying off many of the
city's police and firemen!
It's amazing how so many smart people let their ego's get ahead of their
brains.
He's won the mayoral election 6 times, but this latest crap just might seal
his fate.
*********************************************
This is one of those weeks that being in my own home business is getting to
me. Oh, I'll grow out of it, and when I do, I'll be happy as a clam again, but
at them moment I'm just drug down..
So far this week it seems like I'm spending half my time writing to my
customers to find out exactly what they want me to do for them. They order
things, which I'm very grateful for, however, they don't give me enough
instructions of just what they are ordering and I must write them just to find
out. It always seems to be the people that don't list any email or phone
number that forces me to write them which eats up a heck of a lot of time.
Like today some dude sent me a 1" camera/ready display ad and his credit card
information and told me, "Go ahead Chuck and advertise this for me and put it
on my credit card." That's it, that's all he told me.... I have my own
Newsletter/Magazine that I take ads for but I also sell advertising on the WEB
and I'm a broker for about 7 to 10 other publishers. Where the heck does he
want me to advertise his ad? It really gets me down after about 5 to 10
of these kind of orders in one week.. If they would take just one extra
minute to write "exactly" just what they were ordering, it would save us both
a ton of time and postage... that's for sure....
Oh well, like I said, this will pass too.
*********************************************
Many of the stores we've been in lately have all of their Christmas
decorations up and it's not even Thanksgiving yet. Even the Weis store was all
decorated today. Boy, they are not going to lose any time making their
Christmas money are they?
It used to be that right after Thanksgiving day Santa Claus would start
appearing in five and dime stores like Murphy's and K-Mart etc. This of course
was long before Wal-Mart.
I remember, Mom would take us to the Christmas "balloon parade" in Harrisburg
and at the end of the parade, there was Santa with all of his reindeer in his
sleigh. And right after the parade if Mom went into any of the stores on the
square of Harrisburg, Santa would be there taking orders for the kids..
Wow, my brother and I could hardly wait until after Thanksgiving...
Well, apparently we wouldn't have to wait that long today.. Now some
retailers started to put up their Christmas displays at the end of October!
Wow, talk about "jumping the gun!"
*******************************************
Well, that's about it for this post as I must get back to work and get
something done for today. We were only gone for about 3 hours but that's all
it takes to really break up my day. So for me, it's back to work, and YOU,
YOU have a GREAT day!!!
(I'll see you
right back here just as soon as I can! Okay?)
***********************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
The New York Sun's circulation reached a record peak when it printed a
week-long series of articles (by British-American Richard Adams Locke)
purporting to reveal that Sir John Herschel--through the world's largest
telescope--had discovered life on the moon. Furry
bat-like creatures "were evidently engaged in conversation; their
gesticulation .... appeared impassioned and emphatic .... they were capable of
producing works of art and contrivance." The hoax was perpetrated during a
heat wave and a circulation war in 1835!

I know that I just posted
on Friday but that was already two days ago.
I just wanted to take a few minutes to put this picture of our back yard up. I
shot it this
morning
as it's raining and the rain will probably knock all the leaves off the tree
before I could get another picture. Once we get a couple of heavy rains, the
Fall beauty just disappears.
We had a few warm days but Fall is definitely back along with the much cooler
weather. I was getting a pretty good break from "feeding" our stoker with a
lot of coal for the past several days but I'm afraid that break has also come
to an end. If you look close on the right side of the picture you can see the
outer edge of our back deck. Now look at the yard floor, at all the leaves...
This time of the year I must get our power blower out every day to blow the
leaves off the deck as if I didn't they would pretty soon be waist deep!
It sure is a beautiful time of the year though here, at the Blue Bird Cottage,
and I wouldn't want to miss it for anything.
***************************************
Today is a "stay inside," or actually for me, a stay in the office day,
because it's supposed to rain all day. That's okay though as I'm still working
to get out all of the "joining packets" for the
$3 Bucks for Success downline
builder #13 that ended on October 31st. With hundreds of downline reports,
joining packages, newsletters, and applications, it takes quite a bit of time
to get the job done... I hope to have them all ready to mail tomorrow. Whew!
This is quite a job! Maybe it's good that this is a "stay in the house" day.
*****************************************
Here's something that I ran into on the WEB that really surprised me.
Michael Moore, you know, the
moviemaker, he made the movie, Fahrenheit 9/11, plus many more, says that he
thinks it's just fine to share files and movies and songs over the Internet!
Click here for a clip of
Michael
Defending File Sharing.
He says that he does not agree with the present copyright laws. I think
that he has a point and a pretty good one.. Check it out.
*****************************************
I guess I'd better get back to my
$3 Bucks for Success task and quite goofing off... So for me it's
back to work and You, You have a GREAT Sunday!
(I'll see you
right back here just as soon as I can! Okay?)

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
The Pentagon, headquarters for the United States Department of Defense, is the
world's largest office building---a city in itself. With an area of 6,500,000
square feet the Pentagon has a Main Street lined with shops, restaurants, a
bus depot, and a post office. Commercial rental of the office space would come
to more than $20 million a day!

T.G.I.F.
It's a beautiful sunny day here in Central Pennsylvania with temps supposed to
reach the high 60s today. Wow! A great day for this time of the year! Tomorrow
is supposed to be pretty nice too, then I guess we will be getting back to
normal weather around here for this time of the year. So I'm going to enjoy
this for as long as I can.
****************************************
Well, election day has come and gone.. Did your favorite man/women win their
race? Some of mine did, some didn't. As usual, with most elections, we did not
have that much of a choice.
I've said for years, that for as big a country as we are, and as populated as
we are, 300,180,580 at the time I wrote this, (see population clock here:
U.S. Population), we should have a lot
more than just 2 major parties to choose our candidates from.
As usual, most of us end up voting for the "lesser of the two evils" as we
really don't have any good ones that actually appeal enough to us to really
want elected to any given office.
With our population, we should have a least 10 major parties to choose
candidates from, and that's being conservative.
Geez.... here in Pennsylvania, this time, even with only two parties we didn't
have much of a choice for the governor's race.
The incumbent governor, Ed Rendell, is a democrat so of course he is the one
who "automatically" ran on the democratic ticket.
Back before the primaries were, we had at least 3 guys that wanted to run for
the republican party for governor. The thing is though, about a month
before the primary, there were even some debates scheduled for all of them,
but then the big shots of the Republican Party, here in Pennsylvania, decided
that they were only going to support their favorite, football star, Lynn
Swann. As he was the only one that would see any campaign money from the
republications, all the other guys dropped out!
So when the primaries came, they were nothing more than a joke as the only one
on the Republican ticket was Lynn Swann. In other words you could vote for
Lynn Swann, or vote for no one a all! Some choice.....
Well Lynn Swann lost to our incumbent democratic governor, Ed Rendell. Gee I
wonder why? Do you think that maybe some of it was because none of the
Republicans has a chance to choose their candidate? I talked to a few
republicans that I know and most of them just stayed home and didn't even
bother to vote. Course all they did was to punish all the Republicans on the
ticket for the Big Shots course of action.
I NEVER vote a "straight" ticket anyway, but I can guarantee that I didn't
vote for the "pre-chosen" Swann either.
We really need more parties.... that's for sure but in this case we didn't
even have two parties to choose from.. That will give you an idea how a
lot of people get elected that the people don't even want in office. They are
elected only because they can be of use somehow to the "Big Shots" and the
heck with what the public wants....
I know and am really grateful that we do have a vote in our government. BUT, I
think it can be made a lot better that's for sure... But to do this, the
people have to get "pissed off" enough to do something about it.
I remember a few years ago, the people in Minnesota got so mad at all the
worthless politicians that they actually elected an independent for
Government. The World Wide Federation Wrestler, Jesse Ventura! That's not a
Joke! That's the truth! Still don't believe me, check it out here,
Jesse Ventura.
(And as I remember, he did a pretty darn good job too!
Why do you think the people in California elected a movie and body building
star, Arnold Schwarzenegger?
Do you think that they just got sick and tired of the Republicans and
Democrats fighting with each other instead of doing business that must be done
to run a state's government? Kinda looks like it, right?
At any rate it looks like the Democrats have taken over the house... Big
deal... Do you really think it will make that much difference? I kind of doubt
it... Our whole country is still in deep crap that's for sure.
They, the two parties, like any other business, and believe me, it IS a
business, needs more competition. I really think if they had some competition,
when they did get elected they would worry more about pleasing their bosses,
us, than they would be big business. They like to please big business as when
they do they get all kinds of nice perks... You know, like trips for them and
their families to exotic places like the Bahamas and Hawaii, plus a lot of
other stuff, including even money! Why should they bother to please us, they
are already in office and after all we just pay their salaries and their
benefits. Is that any reason to do the job that they were elected for? If if
is, in a lot of cases we sure wouldn't know it, would we?

I was out driving today and I noticed that many of the gas stations I passed
has already started to raise their gasoline prices... I predicted that
as soon as the elections were over that gas would go back up.. I REALLY
hope I'm wrong but it seems to have already started. It's only a few cents...
Nothing to really get worried about just yet... I really, really, hope
that I'm wrong but only some time will tell that.
Incidentally, gasoline never did get below $2 bucks a gallon around here where
I live. I predicted that also, and I hope that I'm wrong on that count as
well.

Today was a holiday for the governmental offices of the state and federal.
However the post office delivered mail today and all of the regular offices,
that I know of, were open. I guess it was nothing more than an excuse for
government employees to get a long weekend... No, I'm not picking on you if
you're a government worker. Betty's son John works for the state and he was
off today as well... He was taking advantage of it to get some work done and
really enjoying his day... Good for him and the rest of the government
workers.. At least it's less money for the "shots" to waste on their
other petty projects. The working men and women get a day off. Good for
them!
****************************************
I have another couple of things to discuss, but maybe early next week, as I'd
better get back to work right now as I have a lot of "stuff" to get done
before my weekend begins... And YOU, YOU have a GREAT
weekend!!!
(I'll see you
right back here just as soon as I can! Okay?)

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
Just before the Civil War, the Republican Party led Congress in passing a
proposed amendment to the Constitution that would have denied the federal
government the power to abolish or interfere with slavery in those states in
which it already existed. The measure was sent to the states for ratification,
in March 1861, with the approval of newly inaugurated President Lincoln. Three
states had ratified it when the outbreak of the war made the amendment
meaningless!

It's a beautiful sunny day
here at the Blue Bird Cottage in Central Pennsylvania but a bit on the cold
side.... It's only supposed to go to 54 degrees today and in the 40's
for the next couple of days... That's getting cold and it's reminding me
that Winter is on it's way for sure....
****************************************
November is here already and by the weather it sure looks like it's coming in
like a "lion!" Cold, very cold but I guess that's expected around this time of
the year.... I started this year with about 3 quarters of a bin of coal, (It
holds about 3 and a half tons), and half of that is gone already. If this cold
weather keeps up we'll be ordering more coal before Christmas, or at least
before the end of this year. I guess we'd better start saving for it. We
always pay cash when the coal is delivered and now it's running around $600
bucks when the coal man comes.. That will probably cost more this year
as that's been going up since the hurricane deal... Guess the coal industry
likes to get their "pound of flesh" out of us as well as the large oil
companies...
Coal used to be one of the cheapest ways to heat but in the last several years
it's went up so high it's getting that it's really not that much less than oil
or gas.
I suppose all of us in the northern states are going through the same thing
when it comes to the heating fuel problem. You folks down in Florida and out
in California really don't have to worry too much about heating costs... Most
of you just have to shell out for cooling system costs.
I'm sure some day the heating and cooling of our environments will be pretty
reasonable.. They did start about 20 years ago with the solar panels and
a lot of folks were putting them on their homes back then. It really did help
with the heating of water and of course the heating costs of the house. I
don't know what happened to it but you don't hear or see much about the solar
panels anymore..
The house next door has solar panels that the man, who used to live there, put
up about 25 years ago. He died several years ago and I don't know if they
still work or not as the house has been almost empty since he passed.
A dentist bought it, I don't know what for as to the best of my knowledge he
has never spent a night in the house. He does come up once in a while to
do a little work around the place and a couple of years ago had a new water
well drilled there but other than that the house has been vacant. It's a
shame as it is a nice house. Much bigger than ours that's for sure... Plenty
of families would love to live there but maybe he just bought the place for an
investment. The way property is going up, especially here along the river, it
probably is a very good investment.
**************************************
Last week gasoline was going back up in price a few cents but now that stopped
and it's slipping back down a couple of cents.. I think we'd better
enjoy it as it's now about a week until election day and that's probably why
it came down another few pennies... You can bet the day after election
it will then start to climb back up again and very fast.. At least that's my
prediction and I sure hope that I'm wrong.
I just checked and crude oil is down to $58.35 a barrel. When it was that low
before gasoline was well below $2 bucks a gallon but now it's about 2.18 a
gallon around here anyway so it's really still not down where it belongs...
I think I'll stick with my original prediction, and say that we will never see
gasoline below $2 bucks a gallon. Around these parts anyway.
35 miles away from here I take notice on the Internet that gas is selling for
$2.05 a gallon and a week ago was a hair under $2 bucks a gallon... That
didn't stay there more than a few days however and then started back up...
Well I guess we'll have to see what happens over the next week until election
day and just see if it will get below $2 bucks before then when it starts to
rise again...
****************************************
Business has been GREAT around my home office and I've been busier than heck.
I did get all the stuff for the
Once A Month Association,
the Newsletter and the
Monthly Member Benefit
Directory, including the commission checks were all finished and in the
mail yesterday morning. So if you're in the OAMA you should get your monthly
package within the next couple of days.

Halloween, one of my most favorite holidays, came and went, (too fast), and I
guess I'd better get my few decorations down. I still have been turning on my
large pumpkin that I have displayed in the front window of my office every
night. I saw some neighbor kids, small ones, going down past the house last
night with their grandfather at the wheel of a golf cart and they we're
looking at my pumpkin and pointing to it, etc.. It's really fun to have
some neat decorations up at times.. Pretty soon it will be time to start
putting up Christmas decorations though. Betty used to decorate the entire
house for Christmas but last year she slacked off some... I think she's
finally getting away from all the work it takes to put it up and take it down
every year... The way she always decorated it took a LOT Of time....
We'll see for this year.....
*****************************************
Well, I'd better get my butt back to work so for now take care, and YOU,
YOU have a GREAT day!!!
(I'll see you right back here just as soon as I can!
Okay?)

Here's The Cool,
Unusual Fact For Today..
When Columbus returned to Europe, he bought with him not only news of a new
world, but a new plague as well. His sailors carried a virulent, deadly
variety of syphilis that caused the Barcelona epidemic of 1493, and proceeded
to ravage most of Europe!
