It's cloudy here this
morning in Central Pennsylvania and with temps supposed to go to the mid 80s
that will make it little bit cooler than yesterday with temps into the low 90s
yesterday, but not that much of a break.
*************************************
When
I went to the post office yesterday afternoon a friend of ours called Betty
and told her that when I went to the post office to stop at his house as he
had picked us some fresh "home grown" strawberries. Well, needless to say when
"home grown strawberries" come into the conversion no one has to tell me
twice! When I stopped there I checked out a
very
small pond that he built in his back yard. It's only about 15 feet across and
about 15 feet long.. At any rate he has some nice looking frogs inhabiting the
pond and they turned out to be pretty darn tame. At least tame enough that I
could get some pretty good shots of them. The top picture was taken on one
side of the pond and the bottom picture was taken on the other side...
The guy at the bottom had a buddy with him, or a mate.... who can tell?
I'm pretty sure the frog in the top picture is a "Northern Leopard Frog."
I can't figure out what the guy on the bottom is so if you know what it is,
I'd appreciate if you'd email me and tell me.
At any rate, they both looked pretty healthy and looks like their getting
along with each other in the same small pond... I think sometimes that animals
get along better than humans do and you'd think it would be the other way
around...
******************************************
We had a great conference call last night run by my best program and the one I
make the most money with,
Elements.
The program is "morphing" again and becoming better than ever... We have
a new leader on board and if you are in the
Elements
company program and missed last night's call, try Thursday evening as they are
going to have another conference call then....
Yesterday I also received my monthly commission check from one of my other
programs, the
Tape of the Month company.. This is
the program that I run the downline builder for called, $3
Bucks for Success. If you ever wanted to try and build your own home
business, this is the easiest and the most reasonably priced program that you
could get into.. We just started another phase of the $3
Bucks for Success downline builder the first of this month and it will run
until the end of July. Click here $3
Bucks for Success to check it out. It will only cost you $3 bucks to start
it off and then at the end of July, you decide if you are ready to join the
main
Tape of the Month program. Day after
tomorrow I will be placing quite a few people in from the last Phase downline
builder. Every 3 months we put in another bunch of folks. Each one of these
help generate commission income for our downlines... Why not take a look and
maybe you can begin to get your own monthly commission check! Believe me, with
these high gas prices and just about every thing going up it sure does come in
handy!
********************************************
Looks like today is moving right along and I do have a lot to get done before
my trip to the post office as yesterday was a huge mail day! So for me,
it's back to work, and YOU, YOU have a GREAT day!
(I'll see you right back here tomorrow morning! (Okay?)
*************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
In the 1520s a Spanish force of 600 men led by Hernando Cortez with horses and
guns overturned an empire of 2 million that had neither horses nor guns.
Cortez landed in Mexico, gained allies among the enemies of the Aztecs, and
marched on Mexico City, where the local legend of "the pale god from over the
sea" overawed Montezuma. Cortez, after having the Aztec emperor murdered, took
control of the Aztec Empire with his handful of men.

We all should be back to
work this morning as Memorial Day is over... Oh well, it was nice while it
lasted... Nice long weekend.... Wow, you needed that didn't you?
Boy, something really went nuts over this last weekend here at the Blue Bird
Cottage in Central Pennsylvania... IT GOT HOT! We only just shut down the
stoker furnace 3 days ago and yesterday we had to turn on the air
conditioners! WOW it was 90 degrees and the humidity was horrifying. It wasn't
too bad with the A/Cs on but I didn't go out side too much... I've got to get
used to the heat before I spend too much time outdoors in heat like that...
It's just so hard to believe that radical change of the weather.. I crawled up
into the attic yesterday to open up the window so the house could breathe a
bit better.
I must get down into the basement to open the windows down there as well..
Our basement doesn't consist of more than a dirt basement and we really don't
store anything down there except the entry for the well as it does tend to
fill up once in a while when we get high water from the mighty Susquehanna
River that flows through our back yard. That's why we have a stoker furnace
upstairs and not in the basement.
It's supposed to get every bit as hot today as it was yesterday so you can bet
I'll be working mostly in my home office here today. I'll not be venturing
outdoors until maybe late this evening as I must do some more lawn mowing.. At
this time of the year the lawn must be mowed every week as it grows that
fast... Up here in the upper yard I'm starting to get away with mowing every
two weeks but down at the river everything grows twice as fast and one week is
the limit!
****************************************
Over the holidays I read many articles about our immigration problem and saw
several TV debates about it as well. I am just plain flabbergasted that the
Senate has passed this bill and it's gone to the house for them to pass it as
well.
I'm starting to think that the entire Congress is going nuts. Geez.... Can you
believe that they actually want to reward people for breaking the law?
Not only are they talking about amnesty which incidentally have the people
from Mexico REALLY pouring over the boarder into the country as
they think they will get amnesty and be immediate citizens with all of the
rights we as United States Citizens have, but these people will bankrupt our
social security and welfare systems as well!
They will actually be rewarded for sneaking into our country illegally! The
people who are here legally and are trying to get some of their families here
as well some have been waiting for years and here are millions of people just
walking into the country and begin drawing benefits and have their medical
bills covered etc... and the government is talking about patting them on
the backs and blessing them for doing so!
I've been writing this for years and to be honest it never had fit a situation
more than this one... Everyone down there in Washington need to be LET GO,
FIRED, CANNED, etc. and we need to put all new people in.. These idiots that
are there now are just going ape! They spend money like it's water and that's
pretty much what it will be worth in short order... NO, they don't have
a money tree in their back yard but they have something even better....... The
U. S. Mint!!! Apparently they think when they need more money and have
run out of all they have squeezed out of us through taxes that they can just
print as much of it as they like!
These are the same idiots that just a few short years ago was cashing checks
for $5,000.00 and $10,000.00 to buy 5 or 10 stamps at the Senate post office
and then bouncing the checks on them.. That kind of thing was ignored for
years and some of them owed almost $100,000.00 when the scandal hit the news
and some NEVER paid back a nickel....
Did they go to jail? That's where you and I would end up in short order for
bouncing any kind of check let along one for thousands of dollars and
especially to the U. S. Government! Heck no, they barely got a slap on the
wrist... The most they got from the whole deal was the bad press they
received. Now keep in mind that they didn't just cash one check, but many,
many checks over years!
Now, this is the same bunch that want to give amnesty to millions of illegal
aliens!!! Take notice to that word ILLEGAL!!!
It's hard to believe that these "law makers" and I use that word VERY loosely,
are even running around FREE and out of the pokey let alone being allowed to
make laws that will bankrupt this entire nation!!!
What's the answer???? Well, I'm not sure, but I sure as heck don't think
it's amnesty!!!
I would sooner see the whole bunch of them put in jail or in compounds until
they can be sent back to Mexico. Believe me, it would be cheaper!!!
Oh, and don't think that's too harsh either... What you have got to keep in
perspective here is that these people have broken our law! THEY ARE CRIMINALS
AND DESERVE TO BE TREATED AS SUCH!!!
We have REAL Americans in jails right now for crimes that are a heck of a lot
less severe that what these illegal's have done!
GOD what do you think?
No one has asked you, you may say... Well don't let that stop you! Find out
what your representatives, and senators names that are in Washington
"representing you" and find out their email addresses and write to them and
tell them to "shit can" this stupid amnesty bill! Let them know that you won't
stand for it!
Click here to get the address and email of your Washington Senators:
http://www.senate.gov/
Click here to find your Washington Representatives:
http://www.house.gov/
Just put in your zip code at the top of the page...
I know you're busy but just take the time to do this... We must let them know
before we lose America to a bunch of Foreigners!
Don't think that you writing them an email won't do any good...
Believe me, here in Pennsylvania, last year our Reps and Senators voted
themselves a huge pay hike... They were plastered with so many emails and
letters that they tossed out the bill giving them the raise... However it was
too late as people were really angry and we are now working to vote out all of
the incumbents and put in new people.. And by the looks of the recent
primaries, it's working.... Finally they are being held responsible for their
villainous actions!
You can get your "two cents" in too, before it's too darn late... Take a
few minutes and drop them a note! It doesn't have to be a big letter,
unless you're pissed off enough to compose one, but just a note to let them
know your feelings about the horrid situation. Let them know that you don't
want that bill enacted!!!
*****************************************
I know that I spent a lot of time on this matter today but it's very important
if we want to save America for our kids and grand kids... I found that folks
are just too darn busy to take time these days to try and do something about
what's happening... and I can't blame them as the government got them working
their butts off to pay taxes and what little time they do get off they don't
want to spend it in government matters. After all that's why they
elected the people down there to watch out for their interests... Well they
AIN'T watching out for our interests!!
Here's something that I actually put in today's joke sheet but it IS true and
you will really be shocked to read it because with what is going on now, if
the situation wasn't so darn serious it would be FUNNY!
Subject: What Country Is This?
1. Only professionals or investors can immigrate to the
country. No unskilled laborers will be allowed in. Investors must be able to
invest at least 40,000 times the daily average wage. If they can't, they are
not allowed in.
2. Immigrants may purchase property, but locations and availability will be
limited. Ocean front property cannot be purchased by immigrants. It is
exclusively for citizens born in the country.
3. Immigrants cannot vote nor can they be elected to any public office.
4. Immigrants cannot collect any type of government assistance.
5. Immigrants cannot protest the countries government, policies or president.
6. Immigrants cannot display a flag of a foreign country.
7. Immigrants who have illegally entered the country will be found and
imprisoned.
Sound kind of harsh? Well, these are laws that are currently part of the
Immigration Laws of,
you guessed it,
Mexico!
*****************************************
Doesn't that roast your buns! And the sad thing is, it's true... Yep,
we're supposed to give America to them on a silver platter but look at their
policies.... hmmmmmm...... Do you need a PHD to know that this entire
situation smells to high heaven? I think NOT!
*****************************************
Well, with all that said, I have a lot of stuff to get done before my trip to
the post office which should be a giant mail day for me and I also want to
take time to write my reps down in Washington again as well, so for me, it's
back to work, and YOU, YOU have a GREAT day!!!
(I'll see you right back here tomorrow! Okay?)
*************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
According to legend, it was the cowboy and the six-gun that won the West.
Actually, it was the steel plow, barbed-wire fencing, and the portable
windmill that made it possible for pioneers to settle there!

Today is
Memorial Day!!!!
(Have a GREAT day today!)
Right now it's sunny here at the Blue Bird Cottage in Central Pennsylvania...
Also it's supposed to go to 90 degrees.... a perfect day for the public pools
to open. Looks like we are in for a picture perfect day!
*************************************
I'm only going to post a short blog here today as I'm going to cook out again
on the back deck and I'll have to get ready for that... Plus, a bunch of other
stuff...
Betty and I hung around the cottage yesterday and had a wonderful day. The
temps went up into the 80s but it was really nice as the deck is shaded by two
"giant" trees and there was almost no humidity yesterday. All of those
elements put together and it turned into a picture perfect day. I did take
some pictures and I'm putting up a couple here for you to see.
**************************************
Day before yesterday on Saturday I had to stop at Costco to get a new toner
cartridge for my laser printer. I pulled into the parking lot and this car's
paint job really caught my eye. WOW is that something.. It's a radio station's
car and by the looks of the stickers on it they own 5 stations in our area.
This of course is the side view and below this picture is one from the rear.
How would you like to be in charge of
painting
this car? I'm not sure as it may be all decals. But even if it is, can you
imagine trying to put them on and keeping everything lined up? WOW that that
would be a job and whoever did this one I can say is a job "well done!"
You've got to admit that it really DOES stick out in the lot!
One of the radio stations that this "Clear Channel" company owns is my
favorite and the one I listen to most. WHP 580 talk station. Yes, it's an AM
station.. I like AM stations which I find usually carries most of the
interesting programs... FM does have some talk stations, however around where
I live all of them are music stations.. When I'm on the road I like to listen
to talk radio. At any rate, I doubt I'll see another vehicle like this one for
awhile!
**************************************
Yesterday
when Betty and I were out on the rear deck, I made some barbeque chicken on
the grill and we ate out there. We also did a couple of crosswords.
Yes, we're both "into" crossword puzzles. Nothing tops a meal off better than
working on a good "medium hard" puzzle. If we can't get it all, we have all
kinds of reference books to look up things.. Sure, it would be easier to
look up the answer or to search on the WEB for answers but nothing seems to
stick in your mind better than to actually take the time to search and find
the answer in various books.. We have several Thesaurus books, 2 movie books,
2 regular dictionaries, 5 different crossword dictionaries, and various
almanacs and atlases. Yep, quite a collection. Many puzzles we get done
without using the books and that is what we strive for. However, some are
really hard and we must "break out" the books...
While we were out there, on the deck, we were visited by 3 different families
of geese. The babies are in various stages of growth. One "mom and pop" only
had two while another had 5 and the other 8 "kids!" They love to come up
in the yard and pick around my garden plants on the right lower side of the
picture.. I have tomatoes and peppers planted there and they don't normally
bother the plants but they are so big, sometimes they break the plants off at
the ground. So far this year, I've only lost one tomato plant. I do want to
pick up some plant cages though and they should help.. When the geese's "kids"
get almost full grown, I'll have to run them off sadly as if I don't, I won't
be able to get to the river without "slipping and sliding" my way there if you
get my drift?
****************************************
This is the last picture for today and I wanted to put this one up because
it's so beautiful and also because it's Betty's first rose of the summer!
Well, right now it's just a bud but in a day or so it will be in full bloom!
Isn't it beautiful? In the larger picture before I shrunk it to put it up here
on the web it came out so clear that you can actually see a cob web that an
industrious spider built from the leaf to the bud. Boy these digital cameras
really take some great pictures.. What I like most about them, well, I guess
there are several reasons why I like them.. First of all if you get a bad
picture you can delete it and it doesn't cost you a thing. Second you can see
immediately if the picture came out our if you had enough light etc. so you
can correct it and take another.. Also with a conventional camera you
can only take a few pictures and you must put in another roll.. With mine and
the extra memory I bought for it, I can take over 260 pictures before I must
download them and clear the memory card for another filling up.. The
card is good to use many, many times...
Yes, it may cost a bit more for the digital camera initially and what ever but
in the long run, if you're like me and love to take pictures, it will save you
money..
Also, I have a very good ink jet color printer and can print as many of the
pictures as I want and in any size up to 8˝ X 11 inch size. Try to order
regular pictures that size and see what it costs you.. Heck, first of all you
must get them developed and pay for that just to see if they came out okay and
then decide which that you want to get more or bigger copies of. With a
digital, you can check 'em out right on your computer and then print just what
you want...
Can't beat it with a stick!
****************************************
Well, I said it was going to be a short post today and heck I guess I'd better
get going.. I am also hoping to get a little work done here in the office as
well today. I want to have some fun today too... So for me I'm "outta"
here and YOU, YOU have a GREAT day! I sure hope that you
have the day off! (I'll see you right back here tomorrow
morning! Okay?)
*************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norkay deservedly received much praise when
they were the first to climb to the summit of Mount Everest. Less known is the
fact that they had a roster of twelve climbers, forty Sherpa guides, and 700
porters!!!

T.G.I.F.
It's cloudy and rainy here at the Blue Bird Cottage in Central Pennsylvania.
We're supposed to have thunder storms by the end of the day but who knows for
sure... It seems with all the satellites and weather equipment they have these
days they can't tell what's happening a few hours into the future...
Yesterday even on the noon report they were calling for the temps to go up
into the mid 70s but around here I don't think we even reached 70 degrees! As
far as overnight it was down into the 50s again and oh yeah, I still have the
stoker furnace on... It's hard to believe but unless it warms up
substantially, It will be June until I can shut it down... Unbelievable!!!
*************************************
My mom used to call this time of the year, "cold catching weather," and I
think she was right as there seems to be a lot of people lately that I've run
into that has a cold. It's no wonder as one day it feels like you should be
wearing shorts and the next day you have to wear a jacket to keep the chill
out!
Night time is the same way... Heck just last week they had a frost
warning out and some places around us did have frost! This IS May, right?
At any rate I know as soon as it gets pretty hot and stays that way more than
a day or so, and I'll be running the air conditioners just to get rid of the
humidity and to stay a little on the cool side, I'll probably be bitching
again.
My mom never missed when she used to tell us that the snow outside was the
"onion snow" which was supposed to be the last snow of the Winter. Apparently
I didn't inherit that ability as I can never get it right and this year....
Whew! Sorry mom, I missed the "onion snow" entirely this year!
*************************************
I never heard my dad bitch about the weather one way or the other.. The only
time he made a comment about it would be when he'd say we'd better get the hay
in as it would rain before the end of the week or in the next couple of days..
Even though he worked a lot of his life outdoors I just can't remember him
complaining about the weather and that's long before we all became used to air
conditioners in our homes and in our cars..
Mom on the other hand did enough bitching to make up for what dad didn't do.
Especially the heat.. Mom just couldn't take the heat and the Summers would
put her in misery... I rarely heard her complain about the weather in
the Winter, so I guess it can be said that she was a Winter lady.. I
don't think she would have enjoyed living down south at all. She would
probably be better off living in Canada. Yep, I think that would have suited
mom just fine..
*************************************
You know I've had some folks say to me, Gee Chuck you're in the MLM,
(multi-level-marketing), business, isn't that illegal or something?
No, I'm proud to say not only is it legal but there are a lot of MLM
businesses that folks don't even realize they are..
Ever hear of "Avon Calling?" Yep Avon is an MLM business. How about Mary
Kay? Yep, that's another one... and I guess a lot of folks has heard of
Amway... They are one of the first.
MLM marketing is also called "Network Marketing"... maybe you are more
familiar with that as a viable way to do business.
A friend of mine told me a little story the other day about his eye doctor. It
seems that his eye doctor was doing a form of networking by offering 10% off a
pair of glasses if you referred 1 patient, 20% off if you referred 2 patients,
30% off for 3, and on and on up to a $150 limit with a referral of 7 people!
He also sells vitamins and an eyewash for those little crusties on your
eyelids. His chiropractor also sells vitamins, special pillows and support
belts for your lower back. His dentist sells mouthwash & electric
toothbrushes. So it looks like all of them have a bit of networking going on
within their own fields... and there is nothing wrong with that at
all... Why shouldn't they try to hustle an extra buck?
They're just like us with families they are trying to feed, clothe and put
through school...
My point is, if they, in the professional fields, are not to uppity to push
their wares why would we be embarrassed to do some networking on our own to
hustle a buck?
Apparently some folks think it's beneath them to be involved in any kind of
home business as I've had a few of them flat come right out and tell me
that.... and yes, sometimes, but not too often, I'll think about them when I
cash my monthly commission checks from the various MLM companies that I'm
affiliated with... Like I said, not too often, though.....
If you talk to someone to try and help them to become more self sufficient and
to help them live a better life and they just plain "turn on you" I really
don't think they are worth the effort to try and help them...
Some folks just think others are nuts to waste their time and money on such
outlandish behaviors.
Of course I'll bet a lot of folks thought that Edison was nuts as well when he
spent all those man hours, (not just his own), and money on trying to develop
the first light bulb when honest hard working men were working in the
factories and out in the fields all day. After all wasn't the kerosene lantern
good enough for him?
Of course I guess that's why we can say that being in your very own business
is NOT for everyone. Some folks just can't see beyond their noses when it
comes to making honest money... Let alone helping other people do the same...
But I'm not just in the MLM business but the mail order business too...
That's a shady business many people say as well... Well, there are a lot more
people in the mail order business than there's EVER been, especially since the
Internet Shopping was born... Everyone on the WEB must ship their
products by mail or shipping companies... (Same thing.) All of them from
Toys are US to Office Max.....
Well, if you think a home business may be "your cup of tea," take a look
around this site as I am in a couple of great businesses that are making me
nice monthly paychecks... They MAY be "right up your alley." Read down

In the meantime it is Friday and before my weekend begins I have a ton of
stuff that needs to be done... Even though I'll be working in this office over
the weekend a bit, I still have things that must go out today...... So for me,
it's back to work, and YOU, YOU have a GREAT weekend!!!

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
The most popular exhibit in the 1939-40 New York World's Fair was the General
Motors exhibit with its "Futurama" predictions of America in the 1960s:
"Federal laws forbid wanton cutting of wooded hillsides. People do not care
much for possessions. Two-month paid vacations. Cars are air-conditioned and
cost as little as $200. The happiest people live in one-factory villages!"

It's cloudy here in
Central Pennsylvania but we're supposed to get some showers before the end of
today. Temperatures are supposed to go all the way up into the 70s and down
into the 60s tonight so I am definitely going to shut down the coal stoker
this morning! Finally...... Last year I shut it down on May 8th and now it's
over 2 weeks later than that... I thought it might just wait on the
calendar to say it was summer before warming up enough for me to pull the plug
on the stoker... As I fired up the stoker last year to keep warm on the 25th
of September today May the 25th will be exactly 8 months of heating.... Way
too long for the cost of heating now days! Maybe those folks living in Florida
have the right idea.... Or maybe not... In the last month they've had 3
people killed and some even half eaten by alligators!
Wow! I think I'll just pay the heat bill, come to think about it!

OCALA NATIONAL FOREST, Fla. (AP) - Wildlife officers
captured an alligator Thursday that they believe fatally attacked a Tennessee
woman while she snorkeled in a secluded recreation area.
Photo:
Trapper Curtis Lucas, left, and U.S.
Forestry Service officer Jim Ellis bring an alligator ashore in Florida's
Ocala National Forest, Thursday, May 18, 2006, after cleaning off the gator
and the boat. Officials say there are confident that this alligator captured
and killed Thursday in Juniper Creek is the same one that killed a Tennessee
woman Sunday.
Annmarie Campbell was attacked while snorkeling in the creek in the Ocala
National Forest.
TOM BENITEZ Trappers caught the 11-foot-4-inch, 407-pound alligator on a
baited hook in Juniper Creek, near Lake George, where Annemarie Campbell was
attacked, state wildlife officials said.
"I think it's a great relief because my experience of alligators is that, once
they kill, they kill again, and I don't want someone else to go through what I
went through," the woman's mother, Dawn Marie Yankeelov of Louisville, Ky.,
told the Ocala Star-Banner for Friday's editions.
A forensic tooth expert has to confirm that the bite marks on Campbell match
the gator's teeth, said Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
spokeswoman Kat Kelley.
People with Campbell beat the animal until it released her body. The captured
alligator bore scratch marks on its snout and a stab wound in its right
eyelid, officials said.
Campell, 23, of Paris, Tenn., died from drowning and multiple blunt-force
injuries, according to an autopsy.
Her death was the third fatal alligator attack in Florida this month. The
state had 17 confirmed fatal attacks by the animals in the previous 58 years.

Yep, we as humans are notorious for settling and building homes where we
really shouldn't be building them. It must be our nature... We don't want to
destroy ALL the animals we just want to live with them... Does something
sound wrong with that statement? I'll say.... If we were talking about little
cuddly rabbits, maybe that would be something different... But we're talking
about animals that haven't changed much since the caveman days... That
look more like that's actually where they belong.. No, we don't want to hurt
them as a matter of fact they are on Florida's endangered list! Yep, we
protect them so they can come out and kill the humans that live around them...
hmmmmm....... I guess I'm just too DUMB to get that one...
It's kind of like building a huge city below the surrounding water level...
You know, then building "levees" to keep out the water... Then when
nature comes in and destroys the levees, floods the city and kills many of the
inhabitants, do we take the hint and rebuild the city elsewhere, you know like
on higher ground? Heck no.... we rebuild the levees and rebuild the city right
where it was and then wait for mother nature to do what mother nature
goes....... hmmmmmm...... Can you name that city? I'll give you a
hint.... Down South in state of Louisiana.... hmmmmm..... maybe that will help
you......
Yep, for us humans supposed to be the smartest species on earth, if I go by
what I seen done from time to time, it sure makes me wonder!
You know if we just got a bit smarter, the government could save a lot of
money... Maybe even enough to feed the starving children that we have right
here in the good ole' U. S. of A.!!!!
Sounds unbelievable? Yeah, the way we toss money around to governments all
over the world I thought so too until several years ago when an organization
that I support sent me some letters asking me to help... Want to see if I'm
pulling your leg? Just click here
Children International and where it says, "Pick a country", click on the
United States.. It's just unbelievable that we as the richest country in
the world, have children so poor on our doorstep... Okay, I won't
mention that again... This post isn't supposed to be beating any kind for
drums for anything... Sorry about that...
It's just when I see all the waste in our government, it's enough to make all
of us sick.
******************************************
The time for today is moving on and it's time for me to get back to work...
Wish I had more time... but I have a few piles of work on my desks just
staring at me.... So if I'm going to get any of them to go down, I'd better
get back to work, and YOU, YOU have a GREAT Thursday!
(I'll see you right back here tomorrow! Okay?)

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
In and around Zion, a little town in Illinois, on the shore of Lake Michigan
about forty miles north of Chicago, there are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of
people who believe the Earth is not round. They are the supporters of a
theory, proposed in the early 1900s by Wilbur Glenn Voliva, that the Earth is
flat. There are also people today who believe the world is hollow and open at
the poles. There are some who even believe the Earth is on the inside of a
hollow sphere! (Wow, and you
thought you were the only one! huh?)

It's a beautiful sunny
morning here in central Pennsylvania and as it's supposed to go all the way up
to 75 degrees it's finally warming up around here pretty good.. Maybe, just
maybe Summer time is almost here.. By the calendar it IS almost here as in
less than a month is the
Summer
Solstice or more popular known as the first day of the Summer and the
longest day of the year! Yep, we're in for yet another GREAT day!
**************************************
On
the way home from the doctor's office yesterday we spotted a blimp up in the
sky.. Around here that's not very normal. Perhaps if you live near a stadium
or something like that, but around here it's rare... It was hard to tell just
how far away it was and then when we turned on the highway to come up through
Dauphin I took
notice
that it was advertising an insurance company. It's still a sight that we're
not used to seeing and the sky was beautiful yesterday so it was still worth a
picture or two.
It's a bit hard to read the ad... well okay, it's impossible but it does
advertise an insurance company.. I guess there are many, many more ways
to advertise than I use and this sure proves it.. I wonder what it costs
to have your ad put on a blimp and have a crew drive around all day in it.. It
looked like it was having trouble with the wind as it was quite windy
yesterday but it would turn and go South for awhile and then do an "about
face" and go north for awhile.. But with it's moves you could tell that it was
"targeting" a certain area... I took the second photo out the driver's
window with the camera in full zoom mode while driving... I'm surprised I got
it pretty much centered... I only took a second to line it up as I had
to get my eyes back on the highway! Wow! And they talk about people on their
cell phones!

A Friend of mine, Ralph Fulton, from Georgia sent me a really funny piece and
as I already had the joke sheet done for today I'm just going to add it in
right here:
LAWS OF THE NATURAL UNIVERSE
Law of Mechanical Repair:
After your hands become coated with grease your nose will begin to itch or

Did you ever argue, oops... I mean discuss something important with a friend
of yours that they and you felt really strongly about but you both had very
different opinions about? When that happens again pay close attention to just
how things go.
You'll find that they don't five a "fiddlely diddlely" about what you have to
say as if you pay close attention you'll see that they just can't wait for you
to get done talking so they can start talking! Actually after a bit it
gets to be pretty funny and if "stand back" in your mind and look at it
objectively! Good friends and both just NEED to express their
respective opinions! What a funny situation....

Chester Carlson, the inventor in 1937 of xerography, the dry copying process,

It's nice and sunny here at
the Blue Bird Cottage in Central Pennsylvania and it's supposed to shoot all
the way up to 70 degrees today! Wow, looks like we're in for a beautiful day
today!
**************************************
Lately between my trips to the hospital and to the doctor's offices, (various
ones), it must seem to the average reader that I'm on my "last leg." Well,
even though it does feel that way some times, I'm hoping I have some time left
here on good ole' Mother Earth... This morning however I do have another
appointment for my second Immunization/Injection for Type B hepatitis at my
regular GP doctor's office. Seems like with my swollen spleen is causing
problems with my liver and I sure can't stand to get any kind of hepatitis so
I've been getting these Immunization shots. After today I'll only need
one more and that won't be until November of this year. Seems like it's always
something... It's a bitch to stay alive sometimes! Ha! I least I have that
choice at times...
I really pity some folks who don't get that chance... I just received a
call last evening from a mail order friend in California that her sister got a
Mastectomy yesterday afternoon. I didn't even know that her sister was ill but
she said that her sister never complained... You know that's usually the way
it is with cancer survivors. That's what makes them so amazing to me... Boy
they all have more guts than I have that's for sure!
Even when Betty's daughter, Betsey had terminal colon cancer she complained
very little... I can only wish that I would be half that brave...
Oh well.... some people are just brave and that's it... Maybe it's inherited?
I sure hope my friend's sister comes through the operation in good order.

Did you know that there is good debt and
bad debt?
I found a GREAT article about this and you can read it here:
Good Debt - Bad Debt.
You know I've been reading articles about debt for years... Being in debt too
much is a bad thing. Duh? Getting out of debt is the GOOD thing to do. Duh?
Then they, (the folks who write these articles also give you the solution, Pay
off all of your debt, credit cards and all!) Wow, why didn't I think of that?
Duh?
One of the reasons so many Americans seem mired in bad debt, the average
American carries approximately $8,400 in credit card debt, is that financial
education is virtually nonexistent.
"This type of common-sense stuff isn't taught in school, and most Americans
don't realize how badly high-rate credit cards are hurting them."
(Quote from the article.)
I think most folks are aware that their "high-rate" credit cards are hurting
them, as I can't believe they'd be THAT stupid. They are just trapped and have
no idea or actually means to get out of their credit card debt. If they could
do that don't you think that "common sense" would tell them to do so.
Also, as I've said a lot here lately, when folks must drive to work everyday
and gasoline almost doubles in price practically over night, they use their
cards to buy the stuff... What else should they do as their wages sure as heck
are NOT rising that fast. They certainly are not making huge, unearned,
unseemly record setting profits like the huge oil companies that are claiming
that the high cost of fuel and gasoline has nothing to do with them and they
have no control of the prices. (Ha!)
Yes, that may be a darn good reason why a lot of folks have escalating credit
card bills... or at least one of the reasons...
The average American has a credit card debt of $8,400? I think just last year
it was about half of that figure. Now why do you think it's double that this
year? I don't think it takes a genius to figure that one out, do you?
Yes, I agree with the experts.... let's all get out of debt... that's better
for us so why don't we do it... Hmmmmmm..... I don't think that takes a genius
to answer that one either and it's not because it's bad to have a lot of debt
and we should get out of bad debt.... For gosh sakes get real...
It's great advice like saying, hmmmm I see you have a black eye from
fighting... that's not good for you, get rid of it. Yeah better said
than done! Use some common sense! That's what I say!
******************************************
Well, as usual, time marches on and as I mentioned above we'll have to head
out to the doctor's office pretty soon... Just to get a shot.... and just
enough to screw up about half of a day... Oh well, like I said also, it's a
bitch to try and stay alive!
I do have time to get a couple of things done that are piling up on my desks
before I leave, so for me it's back to work, and YOU, YOU have a
GREAT day! (I'll see you right back here tomorrow
morning! Okay?)

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
In order to test whether acquired characteristics could be inherited, the
German biologist August Freidrich Weismann cut the tails off twenty-two
generations of mice soon after birth and found that each one nevertheless
continued to give birth to mice with full-sized tails. No one knows why he
bothered. If he'd stopped to think, he'd have realized that more than
twenty-two generations of Jewish boys have been circumcised soon after birth,
and each newborn Jewish boy comes into the world with a full-sized foreskin!

It's cloudy and a bit windy
here this morning in Central Pennsylvania. As it's only supposed to reach the
mid 60s today. Looks like we're in for another cool day for this time of the year, again.
Yesterday it was really cool most of the day and not much traffic on the river
that runs through out back yard... Usually this time of the year there are a
lot of boats out on the river and people are having fun on a Sunday... Heck Memorial day
is almost here and that's the day that they open the swimming pools in our
area.. If it soon doesn't warm up they will be opening them for for ice
skating instead of swimming! (Geez... would you believe that I still have our
stoker furnace going? I checked my records and I shut that down last year on
May the 8th! Here it is the 22nd and I still must keep it going as last night
it almost dipped down into the 30s!)
***************************************
This past weekend was pretty good to me... Saturday afternoon and evening I
spent working in the yard mowing and cutting down brush.. Also dodging
all the "bugs", (gnats.) Clouds of the little devils.. They're all over the
place.. I sure hope the state's helicopters come back and do some more
spraying before too long..
If I hadn't seen them here last week, (see the picture below), I would swear
that they haven't done any spaying at all this year yet.. If you go by
the gnat population around here, you'd swear it too.
I think I'm going to have to buy one of those "honey bee" outfits that they
use to collect honey from the bee hives and wear it to mow the yard.. When
there are that many gnats, the little devils "eat you alive" out there..
It sure is no fun working in the yard at all as of yet.. I'm sure after
some more spraying it will get much better if it goes like the years before
this one.
Yesterday I spent most of the day working on the bulk mail. Betty worked on it
as well and it's now on the dining room table waiting for me to get a couple
of trays out in the garage and load them up and take them to the post office..
All I must do yet is weigh them, finish the paper work, write the check, and
they're ready to load in the Jeep for a trip to the post office...
The bulk mail will go out this morning soon after I upload this post, I'll be
getting it ready for the trip to the post office.
I'm always glad when I get out a bulk mail as it's a job and a half!
****************************************
I was thinking about my dad the other day and how I wish he was around so I
could talk to him and get his advise on how to fix some things here around the
house.. Dad was kind of like a master carpenter among many other things.. He
and my uncle were general contractors for years and they used to build houses
together, for resale, from the ground up.
Between the pair of them they didn't need to "sub-contract" anything out to
anyone else to build a house as both were adept at masonry work, pouring
concrete and laying bricks and blocks. Also they were both avid plumbers and they handled
all that was necessary for that job as well.. My uncle was also a certified
electrician so between them, they actually could build a house literally from
the ground up.. They dug the cellar, poured the footers, and laid the block
for the cellar, installed the septic system and then "went from there."
At any rate I have so many things that need to be done around here and if I
could just talk to dad for a little while he could get me squared away post
haste on how to do them.
Alas, as dad passed away quite awhile back it would be quite a trick to talk
to him now... But over the weekend I ran into a piece about dads and
right away it reminded me of the other day when I was thinking about dad... I
think there's a lot of truth in it and thought that you may like to read it
also, so here it is:
"At 4 years old: My Daddy can do anything!
7 years: My Dad knows a whole lot.
14 years: My Dad's so old-fashioned.
21 years: My Dad knows a little about it, but not much.
30 years: I should find out what my Dad thinks about it:
35 years: Before we do anything, let's get Dad's ideas first.
50 years: What would Dad have thought?
60 years: My father knew literally everything.
75 years: I wish I could talk it over with him one more time." --
(Written by Anonymous)
Yep, there's a lot of truth in that paragraph that's for sure.. Of
course I haven't lived that long for all of it and I was only around 30 years
old when I lost dad but everything above is sure true up 'til that point!
But you know I've thought the same thing about mom every once in a while also.
I remember one time I was trying to make a cake like mom used to make.. Boy,
she was an expert when it came to making cakes.. She knew how to make just
about any kind of cake that you could think of...
Any way, she used to make this strawberry short cake... It was like short cake
but the strawberries were already mixed in and cooked with the batter and boy
was it ever good! Every time I tried to make it the strawberries would either
sink to the bottom or float on the top. Every time something went
wrong.. My sister was still alive back then so I contacted her and asked
her if she could remember how mom had made it... Well, apparently Sis didn't
pay much attention to how mom cooked anything. She said all she could remember
was that mom always used "Bisquick" and maybe that had something to do with
it... I tried it and got the same results.... so I guess I'll never taste that
"Strawberry Shortcake" again... All because I didn't take the time to find out
back when I had the chance to. If your mom or dad is still around, don't do
like me, take the time to learn all you can from them as someday you will
surely be grateful for it.... Take my word... You can
NEVER spend too much time with your parents....
***************************************
Well, today's the beginning of our work week and lots of things on my desks
that I left "ride" to get the bulk mail done need attention, so I'd better get to work on
them and YOU, YOU have a GREAT day!
(I'll see you right back here tomorrow morning! Okay?)

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
Although freedom of the press is guaranteed by the Constitution, the Lincoln
administration not only censored the news but closed down publication of the
New York News for anti-administration editorials, in 1861 and again in 1863,
for alleged spy activity. When the New York World satirized Lincoln in 1863,
the paper was shut down and its editors arrested on Lincoln's personal orders!

T.G.I.F.
It's sunny outside now here in Central Pennsylvania but it looks like a repeat
of yesterday as it's supposed to rain this afternoon and evening and with
temps only predicted to go up to about 60 degrees it's going to be a chilly day as
well... But..... it still looks like a beautiful day here in my home
office as I don't have to go anywhere today and can really concentrate on
getting plenty of work done... After yesterday I'll need today just to get
caught up!
*****************************************
I did make a trip yesterday afternoon down to the Hershey Medical Center to
see a Blood doctor, (hematologist).
I was supposed to get there an hour earlier than my appointment as they wanted
to take some tests so when I did get to see the doctor he would know better
about my problem.. So.... they took four vials of blood to start with
and then it was just a sit and wait job in the waiting room for about an
hour.. They finally came and took me to a small examination room to get
weighed and have my temperature taken and some other small things like tell
them all the medicine I was on and what I was allergic to etc. After
that was done Betty and I waited about about another 20 minutes until the
doctor finally showed up. I had to strip and put on one of those hospital
gowns that ties in the back or should I say almost ties in the back....
You know, I just can't figure it out, after all these years of having that
type of "gown" in a day and age where everything else is Velcro, even shoes
now days have "Velcro" laces that they can't use Velcro on the gown instead of
the "ties" that none of us can ever reach to tie! It's just plain stupid! It's
not too bad if you have someone along to help you like I had Betty but if you
have to get a nurse or other "stranger" to help you, lets face it.... you're
pretty much exposed back there!
Yes, you'd think that after all these years, someone would have come up with a
better idea......
The test still showed that the Platelets, "the things in blood that helps it
clot and stop bleeding," where the average Platelet count is between
140,000 and 340,000 and mine was still only 19,000. He said I seemed to be
doing pretty good with them that low but if they drop any further I would have
to go back down there and get a bone marrow test... Gee, that certainly
doesn't sound like fun at all so I sure hope that it doesn't come to that...
The only other thing he did was take me off my "baby aspirin" that I've been
on for years at one a day since I had my first heart attack.. He said that the
aspirin stops the platelets from doing their job that's why they help prevent
clogs in the veins and arteries. Of course without the aspirin I'll have more
of a chance of developing more clogs in my heart which caused the heart
attacks to start with... It seems like one of those deals that you are "dammed
if you do" and "dammed if you don't" situations... Then he also said
that I must now check with my heart doctor and see if it's okay with him as
well to stop the daily aspirin.. Wow, it seems like no one these days wants to
be responsible for making a decision on their own.
At any rate that's why most of yesterday was lost and I got just about nothing
done around here.... Hopefully I'll make up some for that today... At least
that's my plan!
*****************************************
You know the "blood guy" was located in the "Cancer Center" at the hospital
and if you want to really be humbled you must sit in that waiting room for
awhile.. I'm always complaining that I have everything wrong with me but
the kitchen sink but sitting in there watching the folks come and go it really
gives you a "wake up" job. Many of them you could tell, especially the
ladies by their bandanas on their heads that they had already lost their hair
through treatment and of course the guys either had caps on or just a bald
head showed. We spoke with a guy who had cancer in his spine and it was
deteriorating his back bone and he was starting to have trouble even holding
his head up.. It was fascinating just how optimistic just about everyone we
spoke with seemed to be..
I guess when you are faced with almost impossible odds you have to keep up
some kind of optimism or you'd "freak out."
It kind of makes you think, every time you get another ache or pain or some
other kind of problem shows up, that there are always others in much worse
condition that you are... It just brought back old memories when Betty's
daughter, Betsey, had cancer and finally passed away from it... I sure
hope a miracle happens and they come up with a cure for all the cancers....
What a great day that would be....
******************************************
I received my monthly package from my favorite MLM program, and one that I
actually make the most money with,
Elements.
There were another two "Silver
Eagle" coins in it. Two more to put in my safety deposit box and they are
really climbing in value, lately almost on a daily basis!
The "Silver
Eagle" is certainly a beautiful coin and after two and a half years, I
have quite a few of them in my collection... The new 2006 ones value are

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
The Federal Bureau of Investigation captured eight German saboteurs shortly
after they had come ashore from a U-boat off eastern Long Island in 1942. Six
were executed and two imprisoned. It turns out that one of those imprisoned,
the expedition's leader, was an anti-Nazi and had tipped off the FBI. (He was
promised that he'd be jailed for only six months. He got, instead, a
ninety-year prison term!) (And who said you couldn't trust the
government!)

'Tis another sunny morning
here in Central Pennsylvania and with temps only supposed to reach the upper
60s we're in for yet another beautiful day here! They, the weather people, are
calling for thunderstorms this afternoon so we may not get through the entire
day without some bad weather but all and all it really doesn't look that bad.
*******************************************
You know yesterday I was talking about the dog gone black fly, (gnat), and
talking about how great it was that the state was finally spraying for them.
Last evening I ran into some really great "stuff" that I just had to put up
here for you.. If you're like me you'll get a kick out of it and if you're
not, sorry......
Random Facts To Bug You
* The praying mantis is the only insect that can turn its head like a human!
* The word "bug" started out as the Anglo-Saxon word "bugge" or "bough,"
meaning "a terror, a devil, or a ghost!"
* The hairs on the butt of a cockroach are so sensitive that they can detect
air currents made by the onrushing tongue of a toad!
* The praying mantis is the official state insect of Connecticut!
* Mating soapberry bugs remain locked in embrace for up to 11 days, which
exceeds the life span of many other insects!
******************************************
You just can't know too much of all the good "stuff" about bugs now can you?
For me not liking bugs very much, I sure did grow up around enough of them...
I was raised on a dairy farm... What bugs we didn't have around the barn and
sheds were made up for out in the fields.. Bugs always did fascinate me
but they still have always given me the old "heebie geebies" and I guess I'll
just never get over that..
Of course when I was younger, I really despised snakes, (actually I was scared
half to death of them.) Then I began to study them and even went "hunting" for
poisonous snakes.. After a while I actually got over my morbid fear of them. I
guess it was caused by the familiarly of them. Whatever did it, I have no
problems with them at all now... Matter of fact later on I opened a pet shop
and although I never carried any poisonous snakes to sell, boas, pythons, and
many other snakes became my best pets to sell.. Most of the time they
are clean, they don't eat that often and because of that there is very little
waste, their cage doesn't have an unpleasant odor and yes, they can even
become affectionate. With all of those attributes, they are an excellent house
pet.. Much better than a cat or even a dog... Oh, and I didn't even mention
that they are very cheap to keep as well... They never need groomed or taken
for a walk... Yep, even a visit to the vet is very rare indeed for them.
No, I don't have any snakes for sale... but you could do worse for a pet...
Did you ever get a puppy for the family and all go out to eat perhaps and come
home to a house that was completely torn apart? Well, I've been though that
and it's no fun at all.. You feel like "ringing" the little devils neck!
*********************************************
Oh, when I had my pet shop I almost forget that I also used to carry
tarantulas.... you know, the giant spiders? They are not a bad pet either...
You must be careful that you don't drop them however... as they can "explode"
if they had a hard floor... They don't have the survival skills of their
smaller cousins that's for sure!
*********************************************
We have the bulk mail almost ready to go and I received a call from my
doctor's office yesterday. The GP. As the platelet count in my blood was
very, very low here a couple of weeks ago when I got blood tests done, so he
wants me to see a hematologist to see if he can help bring them up a bit.
Platelets are the things in blood that helps it clot and stop bleeding. The
average Platelet count is between 140,000 and 340,000 and mine was only
19,000. Yep, pretty darn low. I sure as heck wouldn't want to get a big gash
in my arm or leg or anywhere else for that matter as I may not be able to stop
from bleeding to death...
So, I thought that maybe the doc's right and I'd better see this other blood
doctor and see if there is anything he can do, so I have an appointment at the
Hershey Medical Center Hospital to see this guy this afternoon. I'm supposed
to arrive there 1 hour before my appointment as they want to take a "battery"
of tests even before my appointment. So... It looks like our bulk mail will
have to go out a day later than I'd like it to... But like I said, this is too
important to just let it go....
I'm not happy going to the Hershey Hospital as the last time that I was there,
3 or 4 years ago, I almost bought the farm, (died.) Nope I'm not happy to
re-visit that place at all... This is the first time I've been back there
since then.. Not good memories at all.... hmmmmm.......
********************************************
Well, talking about a trip to Hershey, I do have some things that I must get
done before we take off for there, so for me it's back to work, and YOU,
YOU have a GREAT day!!! (I'll see your
right back here tomorrow morning! Okay?)

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
Gigantic snowfalls may be crippling to big cities, but at least in New York
City they have a tendency to fall mainly on the days most convenient for the
urban populations. A study of the biggest snows in the last sixty-eight
years shows that 54 percent of them fall on Friday or Sunday, when the cleanup
can be accomplished with minimum inconvenience to those millions who must go
to work and school. According to the law of averages, only 28.6 percent should
have fallen on these two days!

It's nice and sunny at the
moment here at the Blue Bird Cottage in Central Pennsylvania but it is
supposed to rain before today is over... so we're not going to get off that
easy. As the temps are only supposed to reach the upper 60s it sure looks like
we're in for another GREAT day!!!
*******************************************
The
gnats, yes bugs, have already been a pain in the butt since warmer weather has
begun around here. They, the government of Pennsylvania, did send out the
choppers about a month and a half ago and spayed some for the black fly,
(gnats), but it didn't seem to do much good...
I was sure happy when Betty called me late yesterday afternoon to tell me she
heard the helicopters out side in the back. Sure enough they were spraying
again for the back fly. The little devils even look creepy... But then again,
I think all bugs look creepy... Betty always says, every time we watch a space
movie or whatever that has "monsters" in it.. They are just all so
unbelievable she just can't understand why I like to watch them.. Well, if you
ask me, they should as heck couldn't find anything that looks more
unbelievable than a few of the different bugs that we already have here on
earth... It's just that in some of the movies, the "monsters" or bug look
alike creatures are supposed to be intelligent.
I'm just happy that the little devils, the black flies, life span is only 3
weeks and gives them little time to become too intelligent. I think with
a little sense and a little more lifetime they would probably over run us in a
very short period of time.
Like
I said, I was REALLY glad to see the Chopper out on the river spreading it's
"death" to the cute little black flies as pictured above. Sounds
gruesome doesn't it.. Well, if you come and mow my yard, oh heck, you
don't even have to mow the yard, just walk through it about this time of the
year and it won't be long until you're praying for the helicopter to arrive
and start spraying that's for sure! Of course if your ARE mowing and both of
your hands are tied up and you have nothing to swat at the little "suckers"
with, it's even worse.. And I DO mean "suckers" as all they want is to suck
out whatever of your blood that they can get to. Yes, I guess they are
gruesome creatures themselves.
At any rate it will probably take about 3 to 4 more sprayings until they get
the best of them... but with each spraying it helps out... That's what I look
forward to each and every time..
Next week there will be just a little bit less of them and so on and so
on..... until there are only a few... They NEVER wipe all of them out as there
are always some left... I guess there are just too darn many of them to wipe 'em
all out and remember, the rest of the state doesn't get sprayed.... Just
around the rivers etc... So it's not like we're going to wipe out the
"black fly" "species"... Not by a long shot...........
*****************************************
I thought I had gotten rid of the ground hog that used to live in the shed out
back and maybe I did, however he may just have pulled up stakes after I filled
in his hole and moved down toward the river. I was down mowing there the other
day and there is a humongous hole down there only about 12 feet from the
river's edge. I have no idea why he would put his "house" so close to the
river as when it rises and it always does, several times a season, his "house"
is being flooded. I do know that they always build two entries and I
haven't been able to find his "back door" as of yet... But I'm sure it's got
to be higher than his front door is from the river...
*****************************************
Betty and I are working on another bulk mailing and have the dining room table
full of circulars, folded and unfolded.. Also the latest
magazine/newsletter, Chuck's Mail Order News & Opportunities... all assembled
and all they need yet to make them "ready to go" is "saddle stitched",
(stapled on the spine area.)
Hopefully by tomorrow evening most of that job will be done and we'll be
putting on the mailing labels... At least, so far, that's the plan... We
REALLY must get that done ASAP so I was up this morning bright and early
working on that and will get right back to it as soon as I post this blog....
**************************************
Talking about that, the time is moving right along as always, so for me it's
back to work and YOU, YOU have a GREAT day today!!!!
(I'll see your right back here tomorrow morning! Okay?)
**************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
An important step in the history of reference works was made when the German
physician and philosopher Johann Georg Krunitz (1728-96) wrote his
Oekonomisch-technologische Encyklopadie. He wrote it all by himself---242
highly organized volumes. He also wrote 438 other books! Wow!

It's a bit cloudy with the
sun peeking through once in awhile here this
morning in Central Pennsylvania and probably is because the weather folks are
calling for showers on an off again today... It was pretty dismal most of
yesterday but toward late afternoon and evening it finally did clear up and
the sunshine came through as you can see by the picture below...
Looks like we're in for another GREAT day here at the Blue Bird Cottage...
Can't get much done out doors but it looks like I'll be able to get plenty
done here in the office all day today...
*************************************
I received a call from my bank where I keep my business account that they had
"overpaid" me when I cashed a few checks on Friday there..
Actually what happened is that I made a deposit and I had 5 checks to cash..
Since last Summer when they "overpaid" me $20 when cashing my checks and then
when I arrived home and back in my office there was a message there waiting on
me to tell me that they had made a mistake and to call them immediately..
I called them and they asked me to stop back down and give them back the $20
bucks... Okay I said and returned it the next day....
Well, since then I always total up any checks to be cashed and make a "post
it" note and take along and when I hand them the checks to be cashed I lay the
note down on the counter, facing them, so they can double check my figures
against theirs... So far it's worked out pretty good..
Then last Friday my total had come to $417.50 and when the cashier girl
totaled her figures she said she got $420.50.. I asked if she would "double
check" and re-total them once more which she did and insisted that she got
$420.50.. I said okay, but you see by my note that I came up with
$417.50 right... Yes, she said, but you have $420.50 in checks here.. Okay I
said...
When I arrived home and came into my office there was a call on my answering
machine from the girl at the bank that cashed my checks telling me that she
had made an error and that it would be "very nice" if I would stop at the bank
again and give them their $3 dollars back...
It was, by then, too late to call them and the next morning, before I could
get a chance to call them, another lady called me and asked about the $3
dollars... I told them that I couldn't get back to the bank until Monday
and they said okay...
Well yesterday when I arrived home, I remembered that I had forgotten to stop
at the darn bank so now, I'll have to call them again this morning... I'll get
that done as soon as I post this blog. What a mess... all for a $3 dollar
mistake... That's why I started to double check my totals and write them down,
to prevent something like this, but I guess there is really no way to avoid
mistakes no matter how much caution that one takes... That's just the
way life is......
***************************************
There
is definitely no question that not only has Spring arrived but it has set in
pretty good and Summer is right on the heels of it. There's plenty of proof of
this when I look outdoors and across the river from our back yard..
Where just a few weeks ago the mountains looked barren they are now solid
green and there is no mistake that the trees on the mountains are now in full
"bloom"... It's absolutely beautiful as you can see from the picture
above....
I was standing along the river in our back yard when I took this picture and
as you can see the weather had cleared up quite a bit from earlier when it was
steadily raining for most of the day.
It IS beautiful in this neck of the woods in all seasons and all through the
year.. We're are located only about 15 to 20 minutes from the city of
Harrisburg, but you wouldn't know it to walk outside as it seems like when you
are here on our property that you are actually out in the "boonies."
If we have a nice weekend around here, there will be a lot of "action" on the
river especially on Sunday as the river is still a bit high from all the rain
and when it's this high, a lot of larger water craft comes all the way up our
way from Harrisburg. The house boats and the pontoon boats as well.. Always at
this time of the year, also, young folks are racing up and down the river on
ski jets too. Yep, never a dull moment around here it seems...

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
The Metropolitan Opera House became a showplace for the finest productions
during the enlightened leadership of Otto H. Kahn, the main stockholder. He
was a man of superb musical taste and great wealth. He poured more than $2
million of his private fortune into the Metropolitan. Ironically, for almost
fifteen years Mr. Kahn could not be a box holder in his own opera house
because the Metropolitan had a anti-Semitic policy, and Mr. Kahn was a Jew.
When he was at last permitted to have a box, he showed his contempt by never
sitting in it. He made it available for distinguished foreign visitors!

It's cloudy out at the
moment here in Central Pennsylvania and we're supposed to have showers off and
on all day today. As that's the way it was yesterday... It just looks like a

we'll need the air conditioner either!

Boy, what a weekend. Saturday was a nice day and I got pretty much work done
here in my home office.. Yesterday it rained off and on most of the day. But
yesterday morning Betty and I made a trip to the West Shore as Betty's
daughter Tammy works part time at the American Legion in West Fairview where
she lives and yesterday they were celebrating Mother's Day with a home made
"all you can eat" breakfast buffet there. Betty's two sons were also invited,
and John and his wife Debbie and Diz, the other son showed up as well.. We had
a good breakfast. I filled up on potatoes and scrambled eggs as I don't eat
red meat and they had bacon and sausage for the meat.. At any rate it was good
and FREE to Betty and Tammy paid for mine... We chatted for about an
hour and a half and Betty got cards from everyone and each one had also bought
her a flower as well.. The entire rear of the Jeep was full of flowers..&nb |
