It is a bit cloudy here
this morning at the Blue Bird Cottage in Central Pennsylvania and they are
calling for showers today so I guess the clouds are to be expected... Also
it's supposed to be a bit cooler today with temps in the mid 40s. However that
is still much higher temps than normal for this time of the year... I
just love it!
I don't know what Punxsutawney Phil is
going to decide here in a couple of days. (Phil is Pennsylvania's famous
Groundhog that will tell us if we have 6 more weeks of Winter left here in
Pennsylvania, on
Groundhog Day...)
But it wouldn't surprise me, this year, if Winter ends early... We'll just
have to wait and see what Phil decides....
It's only 2 days from today.
***********************************
Have you ever taken notice that if you want any product without something in
it, it always costs more... Initially what I'm talking about is foods without
sugar.. As I have diabetes I must watch my sugar and carbohydrates... I
just love those twin pop popsicles.. Actually I guess all they really
amount to are sweet flavored, colored, frozen water... I still love to just
suck on one of them every night.. Well, they make them sugarless now days.....
However.... if you go to the Weis store you can buy about 2 dozen of them in a
pack for less than 3 bucks... but if you want the sugarless kind it's about $4
bucks for just 12 of them!!!
The same goes for cheese.... if you want to buy cheese without the salt it's
at least 15 to to percent more!
You would think that it costs more to add something not more "not to add it."
Here's a biggie, how about coffee.... With my heart problems I've had to
switch from regular coffee to decaffeinated coffee.... Well, that or give it
up altogether... Don't want caffeine? Well, it's going to cost you at
least a $1 buck more per pound!
Here's one that really "always 'got' me... When cars first started
coming out with the newer emission systems, back in the 80s, they required
non-leaded gasoline.. They even put smaller entry holes in the gas tanks for
the automobiles so you couldn't, even if you wanted to, put in gasoline with
lead in it.. They started to charge, at the time, up to 10˘ more a gallon for
the non-leaded gasoline.. (and at the time, 10˘ extra was a good bit more.)
What a lot of folks didn't know at the time and as far as that goes, they probably
still don't, is that lead is added to gasoline at a good bit more expense...
Something else, right?
Oh, and while I'm on it, here's one last thing that REALLY mades no sense to
me... When I closed my automobile repair shop many years ago, some of my
old customer's continually called me for help.. I kept telling them that I was
out of the business but they would beg and beg telling me they didn't know
what to do and many times I'd give in and try to help them.... But I really
didn't have the time for it... so I told the phone company that I didn't want
an unlisted telephone number but I didn't want it published either... That way if
someone really needed to contact me they could call the operator and she would
give them the number, but it wouldn't be that easy to get it out of the phone
book if it wasn't published there... For that "service" they charged me an
extra $1.00 every month, and I paid the "fee" for years! A buck extra NOT to print my
number in the phone book and NOT a one time fee, but each and every month....
Boy even the phone companies get you coming and going don't they?
These are instances where good, common sense apparently doesn't count at
all!
************************************
Now, that I'm on that track, there's another thing that doesn't make sense at
all.. The government is always telling us that inflation is super low...
something like 5%... However everything that I go to buy is always
about 20% more!
There are exceptions like gasoline... Heck that's up at least 30 to 40 percent
more than it was last year at this time and of course the products that go
along with it like heating oil and diesel fuel... Also, coal has increased
somewhat from last year but I think that's because they like to ride the oil
"band wagon"... When the oil prices go up the coal industry figures they can
add money to the cost of their product even though it costs them no more to
produce that it did at this time last year...
While I'm on the subject of inflation and the government, they, the
government, are the BIGGEST
inflators of all... They never raise any of their fees by a mere 5%... At
least I've never seen it... It's like when Pennsylvania put up the cost
of boat licenses ... more like 100% increase... Same with hunting licenses and
fishing licenses.... Yeah, 5%.... 5% my foot... I don't know where they are
getting their figures and who is writing them but apparently who ever it is
must NEVER go shopping for anything....
Of course if they admitted the actual inflation rate, they'd have to up the
Social Security Retirement Checks to cover some of it... The little that they
up them now each year is almost nothing of the true increase in prices...
That's why I think more and more retired folks are trying to hustle a buck
from their homes... They've got to do something unless they're starting to
develop a taste for dog food..... and I don't mean the canned variety as
that's too expensive... I'm talking about the dry kind that you buy bulk in
the bags!
**************************************
I did get a lot done yesterday but the mail bag was so full yesterday that I
still have a lot of mail to open and sort.... not to mention the inquiries and
orders that I must fill... So with all that in mind, I guess I'd better get
back to work, and YOU, YOU have a GREAT Tuesday!
**************************************
Oh, one more thing, those of you who are in my favorite MLM company,
Elements,
don't forget that the weekly conference call is tonight... It's at 10 PM here
in the East, 9 PM Central, etc... You can figure out your time from that
information.. The number to call is: (212) 461-5860 - access code - 2636#
Get in on this week's call as Jeff Charlton is talking about the new changes
in the company policy etc. and just what you can do to build your business....
and at the beginning of the call holler out a hello to me.... I'll be there as
well...

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today...
The giraffe's blood pressure is two or three times that of a healthy man and
may be the highest in the world. Because the giraffe has such a long neck, ten
to twelve feet, its heart needs tremendous force to pump blood through the
carotid artery to the brain. The giraffe's heart is huge; it weighs
twenty-five pounds, is two feet long, and has walls up to three inches thick!

It's nice and sunny here in
Central Pennsylvania and it's supposed to go up into the mid 50s yet again
today! Although we got plenty of rain yesterday looks like it's making up for
it today with sunshine! I'll take it!
***********************************
Wow,
what a weekend! I forgot but Betty and I were invited to our Chinese friend's
restaurant to help them celebrate the
Chinese New Year on
Saturday evening.... The party was to start approximately at 10PM and last 'til
a bit after midnight.
We arrived at about 10 minutes after 10.... Betty, me, and my camera.... Wall to
wall Chinese people... All the folks that work at
that restaurant plus,
all the folks that work in his restaurant in Hershey Pennsylvania as well.
They had tons of Chinese food and seafood all cooked in real Chinese style.
(Not American style and believe me there's quite a difference.)
Some of it was GREAT and some of it was not for my taste.. Some of it didn't
even appeal enough to me to taste it but I think
Betty tried a little bit of
everything.
The pictures on the left show just SOME
of the food that was there. I know some it it was Crabs, Lobster, several kinds
of fish, and all kinds of vegetables but some of the stuff I didn't recognize
and I have no idea just what it was!
We lucked out and got to sit at the table with the owners, Ken and his wife
Cindy, and their family. Like I
said there was plenty of food and the conversation was good.
Although most were
talking in Chinese, we didn't feel left out as our friend Larry and Jackie
Chan, (the manager from the restaurant in Hershey), sitting on Betty's left spent most of the evening talking to us in
English.. (Thank goodness!)
There were a set of "chop sticks" at each setting and I was doing "pretty
good" when I first started eating with them but Larry saw us struggling with
them and went and fetched us of spoons and forks.
All in all we had one heck of a time and it was quite different than anything
that we've done before... Actually we felt quite privileged as there were only
2 other Americans there besides us that have been friends of the family for
years. Actually I guess that I really shouldn't say Americans as there are some of
the native born Chinese people there that have become American citizens and of
course the younger children were born here...
Before we left, Ken's wife, Cindy gave us a standing invitation for the next
Chinese New
Year's party as well so it looks like we have a date for the next
Chinese New Years too. Each year it falls on a different day so at the
moment, I'm really not sure what next years date is....
I really pitied all of the Chinese folks there as most of them had worked all
day Saturday and then had their party that night... It wasn't long after
midnight though that they all got together, moved all the tables back to where
they belonged and cleaned up the food etc. as Sunday morning they'd have to be
back there to go to work again! I'm sure none of them got too much rest
Saturday night... But hey, it's only once a year, right?
I remember right about midnight walking out of the "party room" toward the
cash register to get myself a toothpick when I happened to glance out over the
now vacant restaurant to see several of the younger Chinese talking on their
cell phones probably to their spouses in other cities or to their parents in
New York or China....
Some of them are a long way from their close relatives... The one girl who
works there, Joyce, is married and her husband works in Orlando Florida! They
have an 18 month old little girl that the Joyce's mother baby sits for and she lives in
New York City! Talk about a young family being "split up."
Many that we know
send home money to their parents every month. Like I mentioned before some of
their parents are in New York and some still live in China.. I know when they
send money back to China, it must go a long way as I think the exchange rate
is about 8 to one...
At any rate...... that's what I meant...... What a weekend!
************************************
Yesterday it rained most of the day here in Central Pennsylvania sort of
trapping us in the house which was okay with me as I got a chance to get some
things done in the office... and to go through the loads of pictures that I
took the night before... 52 of them to be exact and Betty wants me to print
all of them... I told her even with an extra print cartridge I'm not sure if I
have enough ink to print them all out plus the paper to do it but I guess the
way she's insisting, I'm going to find out! Oh well... if I know her, she'll
probably give most of them away anyway.....
************************************
I really can't believe just how well the new program, Dac-Leads that I got
into is doing...
I really haven't been in it that long and not only am I into profit but way
ahead of break even.. Here's an excerpt of an email I sent out yesterday as an
update... I didn't check this morning as of yet but I may even have more in my
downline than yesterday! Here's the excerpt:
http://www.dac-leads.Com/?chuckrollason
I now have 30 in my downline! 9 of them have upgraded to paid membership...
That's almost 1/3 or 33% of them and I'm sure a lot more of them will be
upgrading this week!
My $30 fast start bonuses have far more than paid for my initial upgrade to
paid membership costs....
In my paid downline this is where I stand:
3 people in my 1st level -- That's full and pays me $60.00 per month!
5 people in my 2nd level -- At $5 each I'm making $25.00 per month so far from
level 2!!!
1 person on my 3nd level -- At $5 each I'm making $5.00 from him so far from
level 3!!!!
That's already $90 per month lined up in commission payments and let's not
forget that it's only been 19 days since I even heard of this program!!! I
joined the program for FREE on the 10th and upgraded to paid membership on the
12th... Heck from the 12th, that's only 17 days!!!!
17/19 Days and I've already got my initial investment back and set up for $90
a month commissions so far and I haven't even started my mailing campaign
yet!!!!
Now that's what I call a decent program!!!
.................
My advice is jump in now
for FREE and then upgrade as soon as you can...
Take that first step of signing into the program though now, That's for
FREE!!!!
Then I'll help to make your downline grow plus the company will place 12
members into your downline as well...
http://www.dac-leads.Com/?chuckrollason Don't miss out on my mailing
campaign, I'm starting it officially this week.... You'll want all the
"overspill"
that I can produce for you!!!!
(Also, my sponsor, Ralph Fulton, is also getting reading for his mailing
campaign.... You'll get some of his as well....)
You'll want to get signed up now, at least for FREE just click here:
Dac-Leads
*************************************
Well, this IS the start of a brand new week and I have a lot to get done
before my daily trip to the post office so for me it's back to work and YOU,
YOU have a GREAT day!!!
**************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today...
P.T. Barnum signed a group of Indians for his famous nineteenth-century
American Museum. Part of their performance was a wedding dance twice a day.
The chief demanded a "new, red woolen blanket at a cost of ten dollars,
quite a bit of money back then,
for the groom to present to the bride's father." When Barnum discovered that
it had to be a new blanket for each performance, he complained, pointing out
that the wedding was only make-believe. When the chief insisted that the dance
was genuine, Barnum had to cough up an extra $120 a week!!!

T.G.I.F.
It's nice and sunny out
this morning here in Central Pennsylvania. Actually a replay of yesterday
except for one thing..... today it's supposed to warm up into the mid 40s...
That's a LOT better than yesterday.
When I went on my "hear walk" yesterday I darn near "froze to death." Well,
maybe not, but it was really cold.
************************************
Looks like everyplace I turn these days on the WEB I'm running into "Podcasts"....
"What the heck is a 'podcast'?"
Basically, you produce a podcast the same as if you were using a tape
recorder, or a digital recorder. You talk and play music. But you record in an
Mp3 file format. "Mp3", is a file format, that's all.
You create the broadcast, upload the file to your server just the way you
upload any other file, and your RSS feed automatically sends your file
directly to your audience. You don't even have to know what 'RSS' is.
From there, subscribers can play your show on their home computer, or load it
onto their ipod, or other Mp3 listening device.
Mac's are no problem. It's a common file format.
Actually it's pretty cool as when you find someone that puts up a podcast
every day on something that you are really interested in, you can download it
onto your Mp3 device and play in on the way to work through your car stereo
system or when you take your exercise walk or jog everyday.
Most of them that I've run into are completely FREE... I know the other
day I ran into one that an "over the road trucker" puts up just about every
day. I've never driven a big rig "over the road" but I used to have a van
that I leased out for
"shot gun" delivery for a large trucking company that I used to make deliveries
and pickups on the east coast and have always been somewhat interested in that
type of work. Actually more interested in the person(s) that make this type of
life their living. At any rate, this podcast has been really interesting to
me... Some of the truckers out there are quite intelligent and I think
many even have college degrees... They also have interesting opinions on just
about anything you can imagine..
At any rate just run a search at Google or Yahoo on any kind of podcast that
may be of interest to you.. Make sure you can devote a few minutes to it
because, as usual, time flies when you're having fun!
There are places on the WEB that are selling "courses" on how to do your own
Pod casting etc... So if you're really interested check 'em out as you
can search them very easily as well..
***********************************
I picked up two more $5 "test drive"
entries into my favorite MLM program,
Elements,
in today's mail... You can try out my program, get your own website and be in
the company matrix all for only $5. Just click here, test drive,
print the form, fill it out and send it along to my with the $5 and I'll place
you at the best spot I can in my downline and you're in. There is no
obligation for you to join and if after awhile you find that it's not "your cup
of tea", just bow out and that's the end of that...
**********************************
I'm planning to take a little time off over the weekend and just enjoy
life... To me that can be anything from a car trip to watching movies or
learning something new about my computers... Yep, even though the end of the
month is near... the only thing I'll be working on is another bulk mailing...
and half the printing and folding for that is already done.... I hope you make
some plans for yourself this weekend as well and just enjoy yourself... If you
feel like it, drop me an Email and let me know what you did over the
weekend... I'm always interested in what's happening with everyone!
***********************************
Just one more thing I want to mention before I wrap it up for today...
Here's a note from the 20th of this month:
"The fantastic
Dac-Leads program that I
posted my progress on here, day before yesterday, see Wednesday, January 18, 2006
is still growing by leaps and bounds... I'll give another update of my
progression next week to bring you up-to-date.
Don't forget that you can join it for FREE with no obligation.... Just
Dac-Leads"
AS of today I now have 26 people in my downline and have already earned $90
just in fast start bonuses... I expect to pick up more over this weekend
and I haven't even started my mail campaign as of yet...
I'll bring you up-to-date on Monday... In the meantime go ahead and get in
right now... don't procrastinate... do it now.... You can get in for FREE and
if you decide later that it's not "your cup of tea" you can just bow out and
forget about it... In the meantime click here to check it out and sign up and
get your own downline started!!!!!
Dac-Leads
************************************
Lot's to get done around the office here before my daily trip to the Dauphin
post office and also before my weekend begins... so for me it's back to work
and YOU, YOU have a GREAT weekend!!!!
**************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today...
Public relations methods were used to sell to Englishmen the idea of settling
in the American colonies. In 1605, George Waymouth, commander of a trading
voyage to the Maine coast, returned to Dartmouth with a valuable cargo of furs
and five captive Indian maids. The girls learned the English language and
adopted English dress and habits, including a taste for beer. They made
numerous public appearances extolling their native land as a veritable
paradise. They were a sensation!

It's bright and sunny this
morning but the temps
are only supposed to get to 35 degrees here today at the Blue Bird Cottage in
Central Pennsylvania.. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... another chilly day......
************************************
Betty and I took time yesterday and evening to do some grocery shopping...
Plus, I had to get a tank of gasoline etc.. (Major purchase now days!) When we go on a major
shopping trip we head that extra few miles and go to
Sam's Club where I get my gasoline and also some business supplies.. In
the same shopping center of course is Wal-mart's
and we went there for most of our groceries and ended up at the end of the
same center in Audi's to finish up on
the shopping... We save enough money to pay for that extra 10 or 12 miles out
of our way..
Sam's IS the cheapest place I've found to buy half decent copy paper, white,
20 lb at less that $18 bucks a case... There are other buys there including
envelopes where you can save some real money on. Especially at the rate I use
both products up... The worse drawback that I find with Sam's Club is the wait
in the check out lines... There is ALWAYS a line...
Of course the real drawback with yesterday's shopping trip was the high winds
in our area... Although it was in the low 30s it seemed like with the winds
that it was in the teens. Yep, it was REALLY cold...
*************************************
I received a letter yesterday, apparently from some sort of customer, (maybe). All that was
in the envelope addressed to me was a very small note that read, "Chuck, I
sent you $2.00 back on the 20th of December. What happened? Then he signed his
name...
I get lots of mail, I mean LOTS of mail and I have no recollection of
receiving $2.00 from this dude for anything.
Right off the bat all that's running though my mind is, here's a lot of work
for $2 bucks that I don't remember as this guy didn't take just a few more
seconds to mention what the heck he sent me the $2.00 for!
Did he send a check, cash or money order? He didn't give me any kind of clue
to check on his ("what happened?") note what-so-ever.
I did take some time so far to go through all the checks that I received
within 2 weeks after the 20th of December to see if I could find a copy of the
check or money order, assuming that's the method of payment he used... So far
that's taken about 15 minutes...
That darn $2 order is already starting to get expensive at my end..
Let me mention that no check or money order goes through this office before I
take a "picture" of it, (copy it on the copy machine). My check copies
have saved my butt many times when someone claimed they sent me say like, $20
when they actually only sent me $5.00 or something similar to that...
So without a copy of a check or money order, I can only, (here we go again),
assume that he had mailed me $2.00 cash.
Now I've received cash in envelopes up to and over $300 and it was all
there.... But there is always that chance that someone "sees" cash in and
envelope and just rips it off...
Also, if his order was as "lame" as his follow up, maybe he did order
something and NOT enclose anything thinking that he did... If this was the
case, I may have just tossed the original mailing to start with.. I'm not
going to say the original order, as technically it's not an order if there was
no money in it..
So it looks like I'm going to have to take another 15 or 20 minutes and a 39˘
stamp to mail him the questions, What order? What did you send the $2 bucks
for and what method of payment did you use....
Then there is always that possibility that I did receive his order, filled it,
mailed it back to him, and he never received it as the post office lost the
entire mailing.. It doesn't happen too often but it DOES happen once in
awhile...
You find more and more of that when you do a lot of mailing like I do...
So, please no matter who you send an inquiry to about some kind of order, take
a few minutes, write legibly and give them ALL of the order information to
help them help you find out where your order is... It's saves a lot of
time and a bit of money for both parties...
*********************************
We had a GREAT conference call last night for my best MLM program,
Elements....
Jeff Charlton as always is one of the best speakers I've ever heard and explains
the program and answers questions down to the finest details.. If you're in
the program and have NEVER heard one of these calls, you're missing a treat...
The calls are only once a week on Tuesday evening at 10PM Eastern and the
number is 212-461-5860 access code 2636#. How about taking a 3 month test
drive of the program... You even get your own promotional web site... Just
print the form, fill it out and send it along to my with the $5 and I'll place
you at the best spot I can in my downline and you're in. There is no
obligation for you to join and if after awhile you find that it's not "your cup
of tea", just bow out and that's the end of that...
***********************************I
Well, the day is marching on and it's time for me to do the same... So for me
it's back to work and YOU, YOU have a GREAT day!!!

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today...
In 1978, when their first new class of U.S. astronaut candidates in eleven
years was being formed, more than 8,000 persons applied. Thirty-five were
chosen by the National Aeronautical and Space Administration for a two-year
program of study and training. The group included six women, a few candidates
who could not fly an airplane and were not expected to learn, three blacks,
and a Japanese-American!

It's cloudy here in central
Pennsylvania and supposed to stay that way and windy all day today. We are
temporally out of our warm spell around here and we'll be lucky if it gets
into the upper 30s today. brrrrrrrrrrrr....
*************************************
I was at the post office yesterday picking up mail and one of the folks that
works there had the coin operated copy machine in the entryway half torn apart trying to
decipher just how to operate the darn thing. I know a couple of months ago I
received a commission check and was on my way to the bank and wanted to cash
it. I did want a copy of it first though so there's the copy machine and 15
minutes and over a buck later I still didn't have a copy of the check. I have,
here in my office, 2 copy machines, 1 large circular printer, and 2 computer
printers but could not figure out how to operate that darn copy machine..
So I went to the lady that was at the counter of the post office to see if she
could do it... She came out and said the postmaster had taught her how to do
it but 20 minutes later I finally left her "off the hook" and told her to skip
it that I'd made a trip home to get a copy before I headed to the bank... I
wasn't thinking or I could have went up the street a few blocks to the
pharmacy and used the coin operated one there to make the copy...
The fellow who was in a fix with it yesterday trying to get a copy just
happened to be our route postal man for our house. He said the postmaster had
showed him how to operate it twice and he still couldn't get the darn thing
to work... You put your money in, he said, and it gives you two choices to do
but neither one will give you a copy.. Yes, I told him, I went through the
same thing and I lost over a buck in it a couple of months ago...
"Want you money back," he asked grabbing the coin box... "No," I said, that buck
will remind me never to try to use the stupid thing again.. "but why would they
put such a machine that's so difficult to use in a public place when you folks
who've been instructed on how to use it have problems?" "Who knows," he
offered...
That copy machine reminds me of other things that we buy today that need an
engineer to even assemble...
Nothing makes my heart drop faster than buying something with a small tag on
the side of the box that says, "Some assembly required." Yep that'll do it.. I
just hate that little sign..
The last thing we bought like that was a simple kitchen table. Now you
wouldn't think that assembling a simple kitchen table would take a genius,
would you? Well, first of all I had to also assemble the chairs which came in
the same package... It was hard to believe there were that many separate
pieces in the package for just a table and 4 chairs.... and a bag of bolts,
screws, and hardware,
that seemed like it weighed a couple of pounds.. All these pieces and
bolts, screws, and nuts with a single, that's one, page of instructions! Oh,
let me mention that this one page of instructions only had English on the one
side, the other had some kind of Asian language.
Without going into the morbid details, it took me and Betty well over 4 hours
to assemble it and the instructions were atrocious! With all the screws and
bolts they had a little picture of each but not in "real" size.... They were
somewhere around half the size they actually were. Although they each had a letter
assigned to them like A, B, W, X, etc., there was no picture to hold them up
to to find out which was which...
Then, after assembling all of the legs onto a top frame there were no
instructions on just how far in from the sides of the table top to bolt them fast....
that was left up to us to figure out...
Long story short, the instructions were appalling. "Some assembly required,
but no common sense enclosed!"
************************************
Last night we actually had very severe thunder and lightning storms. As hard
as I try and remember I can NEVER remember having them before in the middle of
January!! This weather is just unbelievable. I'm starting to believe all of
these older folks who are saying, "It's all that space junk that the
governments been putin' up there in the skies!"
Yep that MUST be it.
************************************
Lot's of "stuff" to get done around here today as today IS the middle of the
week... I just can't wait to get back to work. (Yeah, for sure...) At
any rate, right now, it's back to work for me, and YOU, YOU have
a GREAT day!

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today...
Two men rowed across the Atlantic in 1986. George Harbo and Frank Samuelson
set out from New York in a open boat, took turns at the oars, and reached
Britain's Scilly Isles. They were fifty-five days a sea and covered 3,000
miles. (Provisions Included canned meat, 250 eggs, a hundred ponds of sea
biscuits, nine pounds of coffee, and two tanks of fresh water. The adventurers
also had a small stove and five gallons of kerosene for its operation.)

It's sunny here at the Blue
Bird Cottage in Central Pennsylvania and it's supposed to stay that way most
of the day. It's also supposed to go up to almost 50 degrees here again. Way
above the normal average.
**************************************
The gasoline has been running around $2.40 a gallon around here for the last
week or two and I'm afraid it just may stay that way.. There for awhile it was
on it's way back down to where it should be, Around $1.60 but it never made it
below $2.00 a gallon and started back up.. The big oil companies said their
excuse for driving the prices back up was that they were afraid that in the
near future they would run low on oil supplies. Yep, they were actually
driving the prices back up because of what MIGHT happen in the future.. Wow,
now isn't that a GREAT excuse? (NOT)
Well, here in the East for the past month most days we've been having way
above the average temperatures for this time of the year and the gasoline
hasn't dropped a penny... hmmmmm...... Was the last excuse nothing more than a
lie? Oh, would they actually lie to us???? Oh my.....
Maybe it's just taking them awhile to come up with a new excuse... Or maybe by
now they are so darn arrogant that they just, plain, don't give a crap! Yes,
that just may be it.... it seems that they can get away with charging any
price they want and no one does anything to them.... Every once in a
while the TV stations will have a short special telling us how much the prices
are going up, AGAIN... and then they may just toss in the latest excuse as a
reason... but that's just about it...
I never hear the president even mention the extreme excessive cost of gasoline
and oil products.... or god forbid anyone that's in or associated with
Congress even mention it...
Why should the oil companies care... Every few months the newspapers will
print the excessive extra millions of dollars profit that the oil companies
enjoyed for the last quarter, but no one will even give them, the oil companies,
a "verbal" "slap on the wrist." No, not a word.... I'm starting to see
prices all around me go up some to compensate for the extra cost of shipping.
Pretty soon everything we buy will show the end result of the extreme gasoline
prices that all the shipping companies are paying to deliver the "goods." It's
got to "filter down" in everything we buy that's delivered by truck and
believe me that's just about EVERYTHING!
We're all paying for those extra millions of dollars of profit the big oil
companies are enjoying and we're paying for it not only at the gas pumps but
just about EVERYTHING WE SHOP FOR!
I don't think the gasoline prices will EVER come back down where they belong
but even if for some miracle, say they did. The cost of everything else that
has risen as a result of the exorbitant oil prices, will NEVER go back down
again... The damage is done and we, the American people, are at the end of that
pointed stick again.... Getting our guts jabbed out along with the money
in our wallets!
The oil companies do not have to use common sense tactics to sell their
products like any other manufactures that are in business.. You know,
good quality, low prices, good service, etc.. They have it made...
They can get whatever price they want for as cheap a product as they can
produce, and get away with.. If you want a higher quality product they have
that covered as well... They give you, most of the time, two higher grades of
fuel, for a more expensive price.
And service...... I'm not even sure that I should touch on that as the
last couple of generations don't even know what service at the gas pumps is.
When I had a "service station", (now referred to as a "gas station"), while we
filled the tank of a customer, we washes all of his exterior windows, checked
the air in his tires, and offered to check his oil and fluids under the hood
for no extra charge what-so-ever. We also offered to vacuum out his car for
FREE as well! All he had to do was fill up his tank... and sit in his car
while we did that as well!
"Self Service" was unheard of and if you told a customer that he had to get a
foul gasoline smell on his hands by pumping his own gas he'd tell you that
he/she would NEVER stop back and buy anything from you including gasoline.
He/She would just go across the street and get their fuel there... After all
there was usually only a cent or two difference from one gas station to the
next...
The oil companies are not only the ones who have it made now days... The gas
station owners have it made as well... They do nothing but take your
money for you pumping your own fuel! Big deal, and most of the time you can
even take care of that yourself at the pumps if you pay by credit or debit
card! Oh yeah, they'll never admit it but believe me there is no other
business that you can visit that YOU do all the work and they get to collect
exorbitant, over inflated prices for a mediocre product! And that's a fact,
Jack!
If you EVER have a chance to protest, peacefully, in any protest against the
gas station owners, or big oil companies do it..... They deserve it...
And if EVER, anyone creates an invention/automobile that you can reasonably
buy in lieu of a gasoline eater, then by all means do that as well... If
you're using oil to heat you may want to get a different heating system. It won't
take too many years to bring them and the other "kings" and Arabs that are
living as kings, to their knees... I just wish I could live long enough
to see it! (Heck, just maybe I will!)
**************************************
Looks like I rattled on again too long this time about the high gasoline costs
and have "eaten up" all the time for today's post... I received quite a
large mail bag of mail yesterday and still have not got it all sorted so I'd
better get started with that, and YOU, YOU have a GREAT
day!!!
**************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today...
Charles Bradlaugh (1833-91, an English atheist, fought against the requirement
to take oaths on the Bible. He was elected to the House of Commons in 1881 and
refused to take the oath necessary for being seated. He was expelled, and was
reelected and expelled again in 1881, 1882, 1884, and 1885. He finally won his
point and was allowed to affirm instead of swear. In 1888 a law made
affirmation sufficient in the English courts!

It rained here all night
and it's still raining off and on. It's a lot better than what they were
originally calling for here in Central Pennsylvania, snow from 3 to 6 inches
deep, here in our area. So, I guess I'll settle for the darn rain...
***************************************
The
mighty Susquehanna River that runs through our back yard is finally receding
as it was up pretty near flood stage from all the rain we've had in the last
couple of weeks.... now.... more rain... just what we need!
The ducks in the background and the geese in the foreground came into our
still flooded back
yard yesterday to have a "look see." They decided to get out, stretch their
legs and eat for a couple of hours. When I went out on the back deck to take
this picture they jumped back in the river until I came back indoors. There
are many more than you can see in this picture. I would say around 30 to 40
geese and about 20 ducks.. I don't know why the geese and ducks are "hanging"
together as they usually don't but they don't seem to mind each other at all.
There's plenty of food for them in our yard... Grass and worms and what have
you...
Nothing to do with the geese and ducks but there's also plenty of junk and
garbage in the back yard as well that the high water from the river has
deposited including a pretty big tree... I hope it somehow gets back into the river
and floats off before Spring.... If not, I'll have to cut the darn thing
myself with the chain saw.... No easy job anymore for me...
*************************************
Whatever malady I had last week is completely gone today and I feel really
good in comparison. I still have no idea what it was but between my Chinese
doctor, Larry, and Betty's doctoring they got me all fixed up pretty good. No,
Larry is not a doctor, but he does know a lot about Chinese medicinal herb
medicine and gave me something for the stomach pain and I'll tell you.... it
sure seemed to do some good. I don't know what that was either as it was in a
bottle that only had Chinese printed on it but I trust Larry as he's a good
friend and I know that he wouldn't "steer" me wrong..
Betty just seems to give me help by being in the same room... There are some
people like that but at this moment in my life, she's the only one I know of.
Like all "home woman doctors" she tells me what I can eat and what medicine I
should be taking and keeps an eye on my temperature... That's her job I
guess... I sure wouldn't want it but I think, underneath, she enjoys
it...
I never was one to run to the doctors with every little ache and pain and I
still don't even now that I seem to have everything wrong with me including
the "kitchen sink!"
I think that's a good thing as the doctors are so busy now most of them act
like you're on an assembly line.. Oh, I think they TRY and take the extra time
to really help you but let's face it, how much can they find out in 5 minutes?
I think we mostly need them now because a lot of the medicine that we used to
be able to go to the drug store and buy, is now available only with a
prescription.
Most of that is because now days the kids will jam anything they can up
their noses, in their mouths and in some cases in their veins trying to make
themselves high to escape the reality of life.
It seems like every time they try something that's available in the drugstore,
they, the government, has to make it a prescription drug. Then we lose one
more product that we could use to help us doctor ourselves and stay away from
a doctor and/or hospital.
I remember about 15 years ago Betty had a bad case of diarrhea. She had it for a
couple of days and looked like "death warmed over." The druggist sold me some
of the latest
"over the counter" medicine for that problem... I can't remember the name of it
right at the moment but Betty took a couple bottles of the stuff with no
relief what-so-ever.....
All of a sudden I remembered what my mom used to buy at the drug store and use
for us when we had diarrhea. It was paragoric! I went to the drug store to buy
some.
The Pharmacist told me that the only way I could buy it was if I signed a
special paper, which I did. I asked her why and of course she said
that as paragoric contained some of the drug, opium, that it was on a list
that required the signed record of it's selling.
I took it home, gave it to Betty and within 3 hours she had stopped "running."
It's an amazing drug for that problem...
I forgot about it until about 5 years ago when I developed the same problem
that none of the over the counter medicine seemed to help. I went to the same
drug store to get some and sure enough, now I couldn't buy it at all. NOW it's
a prescription drug only!
It's no wonder why more people go to the doctors, more often, than they used
to.
It's hard to use good, common sense, cures if they take all of the
medicines from us that were used for years by our mothers and grandmothers,
etc.....
I read a couple of years ago that they, yes the government again, decided that
they couldn't take a drug from the south west American Indians as it was a
part of their culture even though it was a "mind altering" drug. I agree, they
shouldn't...
But I guess the rest of us..... apparently our culture and passed down medical
cures doesn't matter! (Nobody ever said that life
would be easy!)
**************************************
Today IS the beginning of a brand new week, and even though I did get a lot
done over the weekend, I still have a lot to get done before today's trip to
the post office....... So, for me, it's back to work, and YOU,
YOU have a GREAT Monday!!!
**************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today...
In 1831, a persuasive religious enthusiast from New England names William
Miller began preaching that the world would come to an end on April 3, 1843.
He said his reckoning was based on a thorough study of the Bible, and he
convinced thousands of Americans. When Judgment Day rolled around, his
followers gathered on hilltops and in cemeteries---and waited. Many had burned
their possessions or given them away. When April 3 passed uneventfully, Miller
named a new date, October 22, 1844. Many loyal followers met again at that
time. The Millerite movement then declined. Cynics asserted that on each
supposed last day of the world Miller's woodshed and pantry were full!

T.G.I.F.
It's a bright sunny morning here at
the Blue Bird Cottage in Central Pennsylvania and it's
supposed to go up into the balmy mid 50s here this afternoon... This IS
January isn't it? hmmmmmm..... With all the rain we've had over the last
several days and the warm weather we're having now, the mighty Susquehanna
River that runs through our back yard is on the rise... So far they say
that it won't flood but it looks like it's going to get within about 2 feet of
flood stage... That doesn't sound good but we're keeping an eye on it.
Heck, what am I talking about? Our entire lower back yard is under water... I
have to keep an eye on it as when I go out on the back deck, all I see is
water!
**********************************
Did you ever notice that some people just will not acknowledge the fact that
winter time is here and we must dress appropriately? Last week Betty and I
went to our favorite Chinese Restaurant, the
Grand Buffet and for some reason
we started to pay attention to just how folks were dressed that came in the
door. We were seated close to the door and it just seemed like something
different to do.
On this particular day it was colder than heck out and it was windy which made
it seem colder yet... I'd say it was in the mid 30s....
Out of the people coming in the restaurant that we took notice to there were
about 6 people that came in with no coats at all on and one of them was in a
short sleeved T-shirt. But the one person that really stood out not only came
in without a coat, but had a short sleeved shirt on, shorts and was wearing
flip flops!!! I think my chin was on my chest for a full minute from my mouth
dropping open in disbelief! It makes you wander what they wear when the temps
get below 0 degrees.... Their teeth weren't chattering and seemed to be quite
comfortable.. It was really unbelievable as I was in lined boots with my
winter, lined, coat and I was still cold when I went outside.
People like that must just about "die" in the Summer time when it's really
hot....
We saw a couple of more people that didn't have any coats on but they did have
their children or child bundled up... (Thank goodness they had enough sense to
do that!)
Common sense should tell you that when Winter time shows up, it's time to get
out the Winter clothes and "wear them!"

I heard them talking on the radio yesterday about upgrading the minimum wage here
in Pennsylvania. It's $5.15 now and they want to get it up to $6.25 this year
and then up to $7.15 next year...
It's been $5.15 since 1997! That's 9 years! Just imagine how everything else
has went up in price in the last 9 years! Heck I can't see how that extra
$1.10 will even cover inflation over that long of a period! I know it hurts
some industries to raise the minimum wage but I think it's a good thing.. When someone can fare out
better on welfare than they can be getting a job and working for a living... I
think it's time to adjust the pay scale... We've pretty much always had this
problem as I remember when the minimum wage was $1.00 an hour and it was
barely enough to keep and feed one person let alone anyone with any kind of a
family..
In my opinion they should figure out the cost of inflation over that period of
time, add that to the $5.15 and THEN add the $1.10. Then it would really mean
something.
They are goofing around now when they should be getting it done "Immediately
if not before" They always wait too long to raise it up. By the time they get
around to it... it doesn't really mean that much with all of the inflation,
etc.. Can you imagine paying the current $2.50 a gallon for gasoline to
get back and forth to work and then only making $5.15 an hour where your going
to work at? What a bummer...
But, then no one ever said life is fair......
***************************************
I've got a lot to get done before my weekend starts so for me it's back to
work, and YOU, YOU have a GREAT weekend!!!
Stop back here and see me Monday morning!

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today...
Thomas Alva Edison made only one purely scientific discovery,; the "Edison
effect." It involves the flow of electricity across a vacuum. He patented the
effect, but could think of no use for it, and went on to other things. The
Edison effect, however, turned out to be the basis of the whole electronics
industry---radio, television, and all!

The sun was out about an
hour ago here in Central Pennsylvania but now, alas, it's cloudy. It is
supposed to go up near 50 degrees today and that sure sounds good!
**********************************
Wow, what a day since yesterday! Shortly after I posted this blog yesterday I
got very sick. Darned if I know what it was but I had stomach cramps, I
couldn't eat anything. As a matter of fact I didn't eat anything at all
yesterday and spent the entire day on my recliner chair in the living room. I
felt so bad that I couldn't even answer the darn phone! I spent most of the
day drifting in and out of sleep. When I finally went to bed at about 2 AM
this morning I slept just about straight through until 10:30 this morning..
That's why I running so late with this post... I feel a lot better than
yesterday but I'm still not back up to par and also am very weak.. I guess it
was some kind of 24 hour thing.... I don't recall ever having anything like
that before..
I got absolutely nothing done here in the office yesterday. I didn't even get
to the post office yesterday... I'll be spending most of today playing catch
up and for that reason this will be a very short post today.....
Hopefully as the day progresses I'll feel better.
*************************************
I did find out one thing yesterday. Normally I never watch daytime television
as I'm always busy.. Well yesterday I had the TV on all day and every once in
awhile I'd flip through the channels to find something that may take my mind
off my misery.
Day time TV sucks! The only channels that have anything interesting on that I
found was A&E, Discovery, The History Channel and the news channels..
All the others are a waste.... at least in my opinion. Thank goodness for the
few good channels... I keep thinking of all the money the cable costs us
and the entertainment it provides... I just wish you could just buy the
channels you want...
Seeing that I don't speak a word of Spanish, I can see where I REALLY need the
Spanish channel. And as my parents were from England and Holland the Black
channel holds little interest for me. The only pets we have are some tropical
fish so the Animal channel doesn't really turn me on either..
Yes, it would be nice, and a whole lot cheaper, if you could just order the
channels that hold interest for you...
Of course it wouldn't be so good for the cable companies though. Without all
of us paying for the channels that couldn't pay for themselves they would have
to drop them..
**************************************
Well, as I mentioned things are running late and I must get something done
today as yesterday was a complete bust, so for me, it's back to work, and
YOU, YOU have a GREAT day!!!
**************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today...
Thomas Alva Edison was one of a fair number of geniuses who did poorly in
school. (Einstein, Newton, and Pasteur were three others.) In fact, Edison's
mother, a schoolteacher, was so offended with the bad reports young Tom was
getting at school that she took him out of school altogether and taught him
herself!

We still have a few
"left-over" showers this morning here in Central Pennsylvania but it is
supposed to clear up some and go all the way up to a balmy 50 degrees this
afternoon. That's just fine with me as it's been quite cold and chilly here
the last couple of days.
**********************************
Yesterday I ended up wasting most of the day trying to square away my
insurance so I could get my test strips for my diabetes without paying an arm
an a leg. BEFORE the government decided to help us all with the big
change in Medicare at the beginning of this year between my insurance company
and Medicare the cost of my test strips were covered one hundred percent.
That's all changed now... With this "GREAT" brand new system to help
everyone, (yeah right), they are not covered and I have to dig to come up with the
uncovered balance.
So far, since January the first, 2 of my regular medicines are not covered at
all any more and if I want them I must pay all of the cost of them. Before
this year, December 31st, 2005 they were both covered one hundred percent.
I still have some more medicine that hasn't run out yet to try to see if they
are covered....
I'm not the only one however, as I spoke with my pharmacist, and she said that
so far EVERY ONE of her customers that depends on help from Medicare are now
paying more to get their meds!!!
Another winner from the feds to screw the common people. What the heck do they
care, they are covered for any kind of medicine they need, (and their
families), for the rest of their lives... Why should they care that
they've passed legislation that is so complicated that even the Pharmacists
can't understand it.
There are two main choices with the new policy. They, (the feds), say to make
sure you choose the best one of the available choices that will cover the cost
of most of your medicine.. but you really don't know which of your meds are
covered by either of the choices until you actually go to have it filled...
Between calling my insurance company, Medicare and the pharmacy, and pushing
buttons for phone menus for hours I did finally get the cost down some... No,
I'm still not satisfied, as I'm still teed off that all of them were covered
until the first of this year...
I wish I could get a list of everyone who voted for this darn change so I
could email each and every one of them and just tell them what I think for
what they have done to all of the people who depend on Medicare to keep
themselves alive, etc.... (Yeah, I'd like to express JUST what I think to
them, and then cross my fingers that I don't get arrested for it!)
Common sense should tell them not to mess with something that's already
working!
************************************
Yesterday I brought you up-to-date on a very new program that I joined 7 days
ago.. This is what the update said:
At the end, I'll tell you what happened since yesterday..
On the 10th of the month, just 6 days ago, I joined a program called
Dac-Leads for FREE. I
picked up a couple of FREE members in my downline and I decided to upgrade to
a paid member only 3 days later on the 13th. Last night on the 16th, only 6
days since joining the
Dac-Leads
program I checked my downline at my online FREE website, to find out that I had 6 members in it and that
2 of them had already upgraded to paid members. One is on my first level and
the other one that upgraded is on my 2nd level. The one on the first level
will earn me $20 in commissions and the one on the 2nd level will earn me a $5
commission. In other words, I've only been in the program for 6 days and I've
already earned $25 dollars in commissions!!!! Now that's not bad! This
program is moving along very, very fast... Don't get left behind and join now
for FREE. The company alone will place 12 people into your downline along with
whomever you put there.... Do it NOW... Just click here!
Dac-Leads
If you join and you are later not satisfied that you will be happy with it..
No Big Deal, just don't upgrade to a paid member... and that's that! However,
if you are like me, and see the "light", (the possibilities), you'll upgrade
and enjoy making money with me.. I'm going to "push" the program pretty good,
online and through the mail, so I'll be putting people into your downline as
well. The sooner you get in the closer you'll be to me and the more overspill
I'll be able to give you..
Now in addition to all that action, since yesterday morning here's the daily
update...
Instead of 6 folks in my downline I now have 12 in my downline!!! Out of that
12 - 4 of them have upgraded to full paid membership!!! Out of the 4
that have signed up 2 of them were personally sponsored by me.. That means
I've already earned $60 in fast start bonuses.. One of the 4 is on my first
level and I will earn $20 a month in commissions from them.. the other 3 are
on my 2nd level and I'll earn $5 on each, every month... That means so far in
only 7 days I'm up already to earning $35 a month in commissions! That's in
only 7 day's since I joined for FREE and only 4 days after I upgraded to a
paid member, (customer)!!!
Now if that doesn't get you excited, I don't know what will.. I know I'm
excited and would love to have you earn money with me... At least get started
for FREE right now and watch your downline grow and help it along a bit! Just
Dac-Leads and get your
FREE start on your
own fun ride to earn money!
*******************************
I'm looking forward to an exciting day today... Along with my new
Dac-Leads and with my
Elements
program also taking off along with a ton of work from yesterdays humongous
mail, so for me it's back to work, and YOU, YOU have a GREAT
day!

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today...
In colonial days it was legal to smoke tobacco in Massachusetts only when the
smoker was traveling and had reached a location that was five miles away from
any town. Although earlier regulations of this nature were enacted on moral
grounds, the 1646 law was based on the danger of fire. A year later,
Connecticut passed a low forbidding social smoking and limiting the use of
tobacco to once a day, and then only when the smoker was alone in his own
house!

It's cloudy here at the
Blue Bird Cottage in Central Pennsylvania. Actually it's supposed to be
raining, sleeting and snowing according to the weather man when I watched the
late news last night. Looks like they were way off again.. All the weather
tools they have now days and they can't even predict a few hours ahead! It's
pitiful...
Looks like I WILL be in my office all day today except for my trip to the post
office... Today, after a weekend and a holiday, should be a good day for a
large bag of mail... At least that's the plan.....
********************************
The more I see kids mis-behaving the more I find it harder and harder to
believe.. But then I'll watch a television program that's "geared" for the
younger set and it becomes more clear just why the children of today have
their rebellious attitude to their parents and anyone that's an adult..
Boy do I ever remember when I was growing up. My dad used to tell me not to do
something and then a little later I would start to do it again. All he would
say is, "I've already told you NOT to do that, you don't want me to tell you
again, do you?" Believe me, I knew EXACTLY what he was talking about and also,
believe me, I DIDN'T want him to tell me again because if he did, I knew
exactly what was coming and it was not something that I would like.
But that's about all it took to get my attention and to make me listen...
Not too long ago we, Betty and I were at one of her kid's homes and the mother
was telling her daughter because she had not done what her mother told her to
do, she would not be allowed to go out that night as she had planned that she
would. (She, the daughter was young girl of 11 years old at the time.) The girl argued with her
mother and told her that "oh yes she was, and her mother couldn't stop her.."
"Yes, I can," shouted her mother, "and you WILL stay home..." The girl ran by
me and looked at me and said, "That's what she thinks."
We later heard that indeed the little girl had gone out and that her mother
had even given her extra money to spend.
How are children ever going to learn if parents don't follow up when they put
the "law" down to their kids? Apparently this was not the first time that this
situation had come up and was handled the same way.. The kid was right.... She
was going to go out and she knew it...
Common sense should tell you that if you don't follow through with your
threats and hold to your word, that before long, or even after one time, your
threats are absolutely worthless! They will be treated as worthless forever
after... in the future when you try and give your children good sound advice on
schooling, proper behavior and anything else about life, your advice will be
considered as worthless also..
So the next time you're in a restaurant, market, or mall, and see a child
ignoring the pleas of their parents this may be the reason why...
Of course it doesn't help matters none these days that the government
continues working against parents who are trying to raise their children properly.
Now days one of the first things young children are taught in school is how to
dial 911 if their parents are "striking" them, (smacking them on the behind),
or even if their parent is just "raising" their voices to them.
(Verbal abuse.)
It's a shame that we've allowed our government that much "invasion" into our
personal lives... How the heck to get them out of our personal lives is the
question, once we allow the invasion to occur.... it's pretty darn hard to
take control of your family back over from them... Especially when you
have a bunch of "lazy" people that WANT the government's involvement as they
are too darn lazy to do their proper jobs as parents...
I'm sure glad that all of my children are grown up and on their own as I would
probably be in jail by now..... My children were raised to show respect
to their elders and have respect for themselves... No wonder kids are taking weapons
to school and attacking each other... They not only don't have any respect for
others, but they have none for themselves either...
Take time to be a real parent... That would be my advice to young parents in
these hard times.....

The Amazon River pushes so much water into the Atlantic that, more than a

It's sunny here this
morning in Central Pennsylvania but it's back to cold weather with a high of
only 38 degrees expected today.
******************************
It really looks like winter time around here with barely any green left in the
mountains at all... Only an evergreen here and there.
On the left is a picture of the mountain downriver from my back yard. As you
can there is little if any green left in it at all. It's much nicer looking in
the Summer time believe me.
This picture was taken yesterday. As you can see it was a beautiful sunny day
with clear blue skies reflected on the waters for the mighty Susquehanna River
that runs through our back yard. Yes, it was a beautiful but very chilly day
much like it's supposed to be here today.
Even though the mountain really looks bleak in the winter it is still a
beautiful sight here, in the Susquehanna Valley, in Central Pennsylvania.
If you look close in the picture you can see a "stretch" of concrete between
the water and the mountain. That's a concrete wall that acts as a "retainer"
for the "super duper" highway that goes around the mountain... (Commonly known
around here as "The Narrows"... Yes, it is beautiful where I live and
even though we live under a threat of a flood once in awhile, I wouldn't trade
it for anything!
This
picture shows the highway at the end of our lane on the left side, in the
middle of course are railroad tracks and to the right of those is swampland.
As you can see this time of the year, even in the swampland there is no green
left...
Of course, here in the east this is all expected at this time of the year....
It does look a bit dreary though.. When spring comes it will all "Spring"
back to life and all turn green!
Spring time is a beautiful time of the year here in the east.. It has
its good points and its bad points though... In the Spring all the bugs start
waking up as well... I don't particularly like bugs that much...
Especially gnats that around here are called "black flies." They are quite
abundant here along the river and near swamp land that's for sure...
They do however spray for them and after a month or so there aren't many left
and are quite tolerable. However, that first month or so of Spring the little
devils are out in hoards and attack me when I'm walking or working in the
yard...
I don't mind the few snakes that we have in our area or even the reptiles
which around here are mostly just turtles but those darn gnats... Ugh! Oh well
we
even have a bleak day in paradise once in awhile.....
****************************************
I had a pretty good weekend, got a good bit done here in the office and am
catching up pretty good for this time of the year... This is the best time of
the year for the mail order business and it really shows on mail days....
However, today the post office is closed as many of our State buildings and
Banks etc., are for Martin Luther King day... That's about it though as most
businesses are still open.
I have some errands to run this afternoon and want to stop at Harrisburg
Copier and discuss my printer problems with someone in the service department
and I think today would be a good time for it...
I have a small problem with my Duplo printing machine. When I have it in the
Photo mode to scan a circular for it to "cut" a template it develops a light
area down the paper... about 3/8 of an inch wide... It only does it in the
photo mode however... I imagine it's going to cost me a fortune to get it
fixed but I guess I can't bitch too much as I've printed over 250,000 copies,
(a quarter of a million) and it has never even required a service job.... (Knock
on wood.)
That's a lot of copies! A regular copy machine would be worn out with that
many copies. And after many, many service calls and new drums etc...
****************************************
I'm almost afraid to say this but for the last few days it looks like the
gasoline prices are coming down a bit, at least a few cents... I sure hope so.... I'm afraid to
"say" it too loud as they, the oil companies, sure don't need much of an excuse to push them up
even further... We'll see what happens this week..
****************************************
Well, I should get back to work as even though I'm getting caught up, I still
have a ton of "stuff" to get done around here today..... so for me, it's back
to work, and YOU, YOU have a GREAT day! I almost
forgot, I hope you're off work today and if you read this at work won't read it
until tomorrow... The rest of us, well, it's work as usual.......
**************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today...
Nearly half of us die within three months after our last birthday, according
to a study conducted by a Brigham Young University sociologist, Philip R.
Kunz. Following up on a random sampling of 747 obituaries published in Salt
Lake City during 1975, Kunz found that 46 percent of the deaths came within
three months after a birthday and 77 percent during the first six
months. Only 8 percent came during the three months preceding a
birthday. People seem to look forward to birthdays as a goal to be achieved.
The period following a birthday is anticlimactic and can lead to depression
and loss of the will to live!

T.G.I.F.
Lucky Friday the 13th!
Would you believe? They even have a
Friday the 13th website! Just
click on Friday the 13th and
check it out.
Usually it's always been a lucky day for me and I hope it's one for you as
well.
Well for one thing it looks like it's going to be another beautiful day so I
guess that's pretty lucky... It's cloudy now but it's supposed to be mostly sunny
throughout the day and warm with temps in the mid 50s here at the Blue Bird
Cottage in Central Pennsylvania... A great day to look forward to. They're
calling for our weekend to be much worse though with rain tomorrow and lower
temps so I'm just going to enjoy today as much as I can.

Yesterday I read that over 400 people got killed and over 1,000 were injured
in a "stampede" pilgrimage of thousands of Muslim Arabs in Saudi Arabia. They
were apparently rushing to complete a symbolic "stoning" ritual during the
hajj and tripped over luggage causing a crush that killed and injured hundreds
of people.
This is a very old ritual of hundreds of years.. You would think by now they
would have some sort of control and procedure for the ritual.
It would seem to me that good "common sense" tells you that you can't
have thousands of people running around in a field with no apparent
supervision without someone getting hurt!
It's a shame but here it seems that their religious ritual has caused yet
another catastrophe. Read the article with pictures here:
Stampede

Betty tells me that I live too much in the past and I guess she's right. I
mentioned yesterday that I remember when $40 was an entire weeks paycheck for
me. I made a flat $1.00 per hour and worked half day Saturdays and after
deductions had about $40 bucks left for a small mortgage, 2 children at the
time, (which later became 4 kids), and of course the usual utilities and food.
I remember about this time, we were trying to decide how we were going to
afford to install an indoor bathroom as our house, (4 rooms), was quite small
and to put in a bathroom it would have to take some space away from one of the
bedrooms, we had a knock at the door.
Let me mention that there was a church across the road from us but it wasn't
the church that we went to. At any rate, the knock at the door was several
folks that belonged to the church across from us and they were there to get me
to
tithe at least 10% of my paycheck to their church. (Believe me, at the
time, it was all we could do to come up with a buck for the collection plate
at our own church on Sunday.)
I remember, at the time, I was embarrassed to try to explain to them, and I
don't know why, except that I was very young, about 18 or 19 years old), that
we had next to nothing and could not afford to tithe any income to any church,
theirs or any other. They spent nearly the next hour trying to explain to me
that for every dollar I gave to the church I would get 10 fold back to me.
It was tough, at the time, but I held my position, and they finally gave up on
me and left. That's the last I ever saw ANY of them, anywhere again. Except on
Sunday's when they gathered at their church I of course sometimes saw them
getting out of their cars and going into the church.
I mentioned this because this was the major time in my life that I can
truthfully say, every penny counted. Now it seems that teenagers, school kids,
throw away $20 or $30 just going out to a movie theater...
I've seen them in movies buying $4.00 sodas and $6.00 popcorn. Yep, the value
of money HAS sure changed over the years....
Betty's one grandson told us, and I have no reason to doubt what he said, that
he has a friend that doesn't like to carry change in his pockets. If he
buys something that's only 20˘ when he gets out side he just tosses it into a
field or gutter or parking lot... Just too much trouble to carry all that
change around..
This same kid in 2 years will be headed off to college thanks to his parents
saving enough money from their hard work over the years to send him there.
With no more value than what he has at this moment, I'd be interested in
seeing just how he is in say in 10 years or so...
I guess Betty's right.... I must live in the past as I believe in good ole'
Ben Franklin's, "A Penny Saved Is A Penny Earned), adage... However, now days
you could change the penny to a dollar and it would still mean the same thing.
I still believe if I need something for me personally, or for my business, and
I can get my hands on a coupon or percentage off coupon, I'm darned well going
to use it..
I'm still old fashioned enough to think that when you load your plate up with
food, you should eat it all, and NOT toss half of it in the garbage no matter
if your home or at a restaurant!
I'm old fashioned enough to believe in the old adage, "Waste Not, Want Not!"
If what I see in our younger generation is the trend of the way values are
now, then maybe it's good we don't live forever as I don't think I could
personally handle it.
We are already a "throw away" society. I swear that it must cost more to make
the packaging for a of things than it does to produce the things that are in
the packages.
I remember an old dude telling me a long time ago that when his mom used to
send him to the store for some supplies he used to take along his own sack for
flour and that they used to put peanut butter in waxed paper and charge for it
