Rain and cold all day here
in Central Pennsylvania. We're supposed to warm up a bit from today on. At
least warm up enough to be near normal! We're supposed to be in the mid 40s in
the day time and we have been in the 20s and 30s in the day time the last
several weeks. I'm looking forward to Spring as I really am tired of all
this cold, wet weather now. Hopefully it will arrive soon.

much time with it.

The end of the month is almost here and I'll have to get all of the
OAMA "stuff" that must be
done at the end of each month,
the
Newsletter and the
Monthly Member Benefit
Directory, including writing all of the commission checks. That will take
all day tomorrow to get done, and may even run into the next morning.. This
monthly operation is a big job and it not only takes a lot of time, but a lot
of work. I'm really glad that I like this type of work, that's for sure!
*************************************
Come to think of it, our Jeep's yearly state inspection sticker runs out at
the end of the month and the only appointment that I could get at the garage
was on Wednesday morning, the very last day! I've got my fingers, AND my
toes crossed that it will pass inspection this time without any repairs as I
sure don't have the time to get any done. Oh well, I'll just have to wait
until Wednesday and find out..
It always seems to me that the last day of the month that it's always very
busy for me... I never seem to have enough hours in the day to get everything
done that I must.... I wish we could put more hours in the day or that I
didn't have to sleep..
When I was younger I went one time for almost 5 days without sleep.. On
my way back home that day, I could actually hear my own heart beating and that
scared the pants off of me. As soon as I got home, I hit that sack and slept
for a straight 10 hours. Which in those times, were unheard of for me...
Mostly I survived on usually 6 hours sleep.
Not now though... Now that I have heart problems, diabetes, liver troubles
among other things, when I stay up too long or even work too many hours, my
heart actually starts to hurt. That's a sign to me now, that it's time to wrap
things up for awhile. I don't even think twice about it anymore... I
just STOP, no matter what I'm doing.. I figure at least I'll be here to
come back and continue once I get some rest, but if I don't stop for some
rest, I won't have to worry about getting things done as I just won't be here
to worry!!!
**************************************
On that morbid note, I think I'll close down for this evening so for me, I'm
gone, and YOU, YOU have a GREAT day!!!
(I'll see you right back here just as soon as I can!
Okay?)
***********************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
Confederate officers were allowed, after Appomattox, to keep their
swords---the symbols of their honor---and officers and troops were allowed to
keep their horses so they could use them back home to help in planting crops.
"This will have a very happy effect upon my army," General Robert E. Lee said
on learning of the Union's decision!

It was a beautiful day
today with temps reaching up into the lower 40's and sunshine all day! Looks
like we finally got a bit of a break with the extremely cold weather we've had
here in Central Pennsylvania for the last 3 weeks.. We may stay a bit
warmer for a few more days as well. That's fine with me as I've sure had
enough of this darn cold stuff.
**********************************
Here it is a whole week since I posted here. Darn it, I thought for sure that
I'd get at least 3 posts up here for the week. To be honest I haven't been up
to par the last few days and even today I got to feeling so darn bad that I
had to quit for awhile and sit in the living room for a couple of hours...
Starting to feel a bit better and thought I'd try to get a quick post up
here.

Last Saturday evening Betty and I did make it to the Chinese New Year's Eve
Party down at our Chinese friends restaurant outside of Harrisburg. Click here
to get an idea of what the place looks like and if you live in our area don't
forget to check out the 10% discount page.
www.pagrandbuffet.net
Betty and I were the only American born citizens there. To be honest, the
reason I put it that way as there are a few of our friends that took the tests
and have become bona-fide American Citizens themselves!
Our friend Larry, the manager of the restaurant, speaks pretty good English
and we were able to communicate okay. Another friend, Jackie Chan, (no, this
is a different one), also speaks some English... The owner and his wife
can communicate pretty good but really don't know English as well as Larry...
At the party they had genuine Chinese food, not the food that they normally
serve in the Restaurant. Believe me, there is quite a difference. I enjoyed
about half of it, but the rest is just not, "up my alley." Nothing wrong with
it, that's for sure, matter of fact I think most of it was pretty expensive
stuff, but just not for my appetite. Betty liked it more than I as she always
at least tries everything... She'll even eat octopi and I just can't
bring myself to get that stuff in my face.... Just not "my cup of tea"
and that's for sure!!!
We really enjoyed it and I guess I must have taken well over 60 pictures...
I'll put them on a disc for the owner and his wife and get some printed to
give out to the young people. Every one was there. The folks that all work in
the kitchen, plus they have another restaurant down in Hummelstown and all of
those people came up to this one to celebrate New Year as well. The
waiters/waitresses and all the kitchen help and managers.
I always enjoy myself learning about different cultures and really have fun.
We were down at their party last year as well, and we're invited to the next
one too.
It definitely was very cold that night, but it was well worth the trip out in
to it as I wouldn't have missed it on a bet!
Heck I'm already looking forward to the one next year!
************************************
Well, gasoline is definitely on the rise again and it's not taking long to
go up... Certainly a lot faster than it took to inch it's way down to
where it was that's for sure.. It just started to rise last week before
last when most stations were down to about $2.10 and it's already up to $2.29
at most of them now, and practically jumping every day!
Yes, I can almost see the oil execs smiling and lighting up their cigars now.
Oil prices settled above $60 a barrel for the first time this year on
Wednesday after a pipeline and oil field shut down and threatened to cut into
supply. Increasing tensions over Iran's uranium enrichment program also helped
to boost prices.
Light, sweet crude for April delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange
climbed $1.22 to settle at $60.07 a barrel. Brent crude for April delivery
also rose $1.37 to $59.35 a barrel on the ICE Futures Exchange in London.
Click here for the entire article...
$60 a Barrel
Bottom line is, it's on it's way back up and I'll bet you a nickel that it
won't be coming back down for quite awhile!
***************************************
Well, Britney Spears, has shaved her head and got another tattoo.. When this
happened, all the news folks were saying that when she had this done, she
wasn't drinking and she wasn't on drugs. She just felt like making an ass out
of herself and as she is supposed to be worth over 100 million dollars I guess
they figure that she can do any darn thing that she wants!
Yeah, she liked bald so much that the next day she was wearing a nice blond
wig... and also, she wasn't on drugs and she wasn't drinking, but the very
next day she headed to re-had... I guess that was after she woke up and
looked at the news.
That didn't last long apparently though as I just ran into another piece that
34 minutes ago, she ran away from re-hab..
I must be really stupid as I just can't believe that someone that is
beautiful, talented, and rich, punishes her body that much and acts like such
a simp! Makes you wonder how people like her would act if she was just
an average girl and had to hustle to keep a roof over her head and food on the
table. It just seems to me that the better off these people are, the worse
they act!
It's like Anna Nichole Smith killing herself last week... Geez, here's a
woman that had the world by the ass and completely destroyed her son, and
herself.
Yes, I know that she probably didn't give her son the drugs that killed him,
but apparently she was so wrapped up in herself, she never taught him that he
shouldn't be in a drugged filled daze on a consistent basis. Heck, what am I
talking about, she was that way herself.... Really presented a GREAT role
model for the boy, didn't she...
Betty tells me I'm too rough on her and that she was going through hell
because of the loss of her son... I'm sure she was, I'm just saying that it
was because of her, her son was like that!
I just can't understand why they just can't take some DNA from her and find
out who the real father was.
Then, yesterday, I found out that the Judge that's in charge of this whole
affair is looking for a movie contract or something like that for himself...
For gosh sakes, does it ever end...
There's another example of what I've always said, they give these Judges too
much power and half of them are already power crazed and half nuts to start
with...
Last year, I can't remember exactly where it was, but somewhere near here that
they were prosecuting a Judge for not wearing clothes under his robes and
satisfying himself every time he was trying a case with a pretty woman in it!
Even the court typist testified against him for exposing himself to her many,
many times.... Like I said, at least half nuts!
My suggestion to cure the entire power hungry judges....... Just have
someone with knowledge about the law mediate over the courts cases etc., and
have juries make the decisions not only if someone is guilty but just what
punishment they should receive for their mis-deeds! Just plain, get rid
of the Judges.....
I'll bet that everyone would get a better, fairer deal in court!
Of course we all know that it will never happen that way.... Too many
people and lawyers "scratching" each other's backs!
***********************************
Everything with my home business is doing GREAT! This has always been my best
time of the year for this business, but this year has been unusually much
better. I don't know why, but I'm not complaining...
If you would like to get some of your own home earned checks coming in, look
around my site here and click on a few deals.... Also, check out my main
site at www.homebucks.com
************************************
Here's a couple of things I've turned up over the last few days.
Just 10 percent of beer drinkers consume 43 percent of all beer sold! These
"core" beer drinkers average nearly a gallon of beer a day! ..............
Also, suicide rates among police officers are far higher than among the
general population. About 450 police officers killed themselves nationwide
last year, three times the number killed in the line of duty!
.......................
Just one more thing and this really surprised me.. The United States is
not the most obese nation on Earth; it ranks ninth, according to the
International Association for the Study of Obesity. The nations that are
fatter than the U.S. are seven tropical island nations with high-fat
diets..... Nauru, Micronesia, the Cook Islands, Tonga, Niue, Samoa, and Palau
-- and Kuwait!
*********************************************
I will definitely see you back here in a few days with another post... For
right now, however, for me, I'm going to wrap it up for tonight, and YOU,
YOU have a GREAT day!!!
(I'll see you right back here just as soon as I can!
Okay?)
***********************************************
Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
Three of Theodore Roosevelt's four sons were killed serving their country in
wartime. Quentin was killed in World War 1 and Theodore, Jr., and Kermit died
serving in World War II!!!

2007
It's a beautiful day here
in Central Pennsylvania... That is.... if I stay indoors! Outside it's cold,
snowy, and very windy with the temperature at 19 degrees, I'm sure with the
wind chill factor, it's more like around 0 degrees!
***********************************
Happy Valentine's day!!!
I just about got snowed in with my Valentine! The more I think about it, I
just can't think of a better way to spend the day!
Yep, winter has
finally set in here at the Blue Bird Cottage in Central Pennsylvania.. I knew
it was coming but January was so warm for this time of the year, I almost had
dreams of Spring getting here with practically no winter weather or snow and
ice at all... But, alas, as I said, It was nothing more than a dream. A look
to the picture on the left shows what it now looks like in front of the
house... It's not just snow but sleet on top of that has a nice hard "crust,"
on the white stuff, that you barely break through with your boots...
I busted it up a bit with our 4 wheel drive Jeep so I could get around a bit
and get out to the road in front to get our paper and mail. No, I can't shovel
it.. I have an electric shovel but this stuff is way too heavy for that small
piece of electric equipment.
I can't shovel it unless I want to "buy the farm" early. As with my heart
problems, it's sure not worth the chance... Either it will lay there
until it melts, or as sometimes he does, my neighbor, Randy, up the road a
bit, will use his small "Bobcat" to clean the front off at least.
Oh well, I don't plan on mowing any grass for awhile, and the Jeep will get
out and back in, so it's not bothering anything... At least not at the
moment...
This picture was
taken out back and as you can see most of the snow has blown off the deck
banister, but is piling up at other places...
That flat part in the background that looks like a field is actually the
mighty Susquehanna River that runs through our back yard.. As the post
of the blog, before this reveals, the river ice has stopped going down the
river, and it looks like a field instead of water... Especially with the snow
on it.. You can barely see the mountain on the other side of the river
as the wind is kicking up and moving snow, plus it's still snowing just a bit.
But that will give you an idea of what's going on at our house. It's just
plain cold outside and by darn, the coal pile out in the garage, is shrinking
daily.. At this rate, we'll have to order another load before the warm
weather gets here.. I'm pretty sure we'll make it to Spring that is just next
month, but I don't think we'll make it until we can actually shut down the
furnace, which will be some time in May... Unless it warms up sooner than I
think it will.
Boy, Pennsylvania's famous ground hog, "Punxsutawney Phil" REALLY screwed up
on groundhog day on February 2nd.
As Phil did not see his shadow on that morning, he predicted that Spring would
arrive in just another 6 weeks... It's still time to see if Phil's
prediction will pan out, but at the rate it's going, Phil goofed up!
That's just another, "wait and see" problem.
****************************************
Well, I guess it's official, here in Central Pennsylvania, gasoline is back on
the rise again..
Midstate gasoline prices take another jump.
By Frank Cozzoli Of The Patriot-News.
For the second straight week, prices at Harrisburg area gasoline pumps are
rising.
Today's Patriot-News survey of 10 stations in the region put the average price
for a gallon of regular unleaded at $2.199, up 4.5 cents from last week.
Prices rose at eight of the 10 stations and ranged today from $2.13.9 to
$2.23.9. Since Jan. 30, the Patriot average has now jumped by nearly 6 cents a
gallon.
On the national scale, today s AAA Daily Fuel Gauge report was at $2.227, up
4.6 cents from a week ago.
The US. Energy Information Administration on Monday posted an average of
$2.241, which was up 5 cents from Feb. 5, but 4.3 cents lower than at this
time last year.
That's pretty much self explanatory right there... Most stations that I passed
on Monday, the price was on regular, about $2.19 a gallon. I filled up on
Monday at Costco's and the cost was $2.11 there.
When I dug the snow off the Jeep today and went down to our post office to
pick up my mail and to send some things, I sat out on the bridge that crosses
the major highway into Harrisburg, PA, Route 322/22 and watched the
traffic.... In 30 seconds I counted two vehicles on it.. One that went up, and
one that went down.
The point is, usually in that amount of time I would count 50 to 100 vehicles
that would pass under it.. There was plenty of snow and ice still on the
main highway, that surprised me.
I would think that it would be clearer than that. Especially this year as this
is the first snow that we've had fall around here that actually laid. The
state should have plenty of salt and ashes and all of their equipment should
be in great shape as none of it was used until starting yesterday...
**********************************
Now, the big oil companies are claiming that they must raise the price of
gasoline as the winter cold has finally come to the Northeastern United
States..
Well, think about it, that may be true but yesterday and today there was
little or no traffic moving around our area here and most of the State, plus
upper New York state is having record snow falls.. Feet not inches, they are
dealing with, so you can bet that their traffic has been low up there all
month, plus the surrounding states as well...
Now I know that's not over the entire country, but think about it, they were
referring to the northeast about heating and the northeast is where the
traffic has been light because of the weather. Don't you think that they
should almost even out each of the circumstances? Oh, heck, I don't know.
Maybe that analogy is just too darn simple and easy. Well, I guess if they
didn't use the heating excuse, they'd dream up another to raise gasoline
prices...
I was watching some people getting gasoline the other day on a TV news program
and boy, they all seemed happy that gasoline was close to $2.00 a gallon...
Well, close, actually about closer to $2.20 a gallon... Anyway the guy was
saying that now it seems much easier for his family to make a go of things..
I knew that if the oil companies kept the prices up so high for awhile, folks
would actually think that the prices were low when they finally did come down
a bit... Actually the cost of gasoline should be down around $1.60 a gallon...
But gas has been high for so long, $2.20 seems cheap... Yep, a little "brain
wash" job that was performed on the public that most folks left "fly" right
over their heads!
*************************************
Before I wrap up this post, I have one more thing to GRIPE about.
Now, I'm not naive enough to think that life is easy and honest and neither is
the government, or our laws, but some are getting so ridiculous that I just
thought I'd jump on one that is EXTRA unfair.
We all know, or at least those of us that have paid some attention to what was
happening around us over the last several years... that the government has
been invading our privacy and family more and more.
They, the government, tells us how to raise our children and encroach upon our
civil rights and also personal rights that they should just stay away from.
Now this isn't my gripe this time but I'm talking about personal rights like
if you decide to wear a seat belt or not.. Now, Pennsylvania, and many, many
other states have a seat belt law that says you'd better "buckle up" or
pay a stiff fine if you are caught without it.
What a lot of people DON'T realize is the state have only passed this
legislation because the Federal Government told them if they didn't, the
Federal subsidies for repairing their roads would be taken away. So, of
course, don't EVER tell the politicians that they will lose money from the
Feds, as they will do ANYTHING, whether it is moral or not, to keep that money
coming.
So, because of that, we must wear seat belts. I can hear some of you now
saying, what the heck's the matter with Chuck, doesn't he realize that seat
belts save lives and it's only right that we should be FORCED to
wear one?
That's not completely true... You've been brainwashed into thinking just
that.. because that's what all of the governments small brainwashing ads
has been telling us, in the written publications, television, and radio..
Remember, brain washing in most cases just involves saying something over and
over again until it is accepted as truth.. Simple, but effective,
brainwashing!
The old adage is; if you tell someone the save thing enough times, it will
eventually get accepted as the truth.
The real truth is, yes, in some instances, the seat belt may save your life.
But in many other instances the seat belt will kill you! Sometimes in a wreck
the vehicle may catch fire and you can not get a jammed seat belt off in time
to escape the flames... That's of course, just one instance... Another I heard
from one of the mechanics that worked on our Jeep. As a matter of fact he was
the service manager.
He told Betty and I that every time he buys a new vehicle, the first thing he
does is disconnect the air bags as he's convinced that they do more harm than
good. (That's of course, another story that involves government brainwashing
and ups the cost of vehicles...)
However, back to the service manager... I asked him what he thought about seat
belts and you would have thought that I'd have slapped him up along the side
of his head! He said just last year that he had 2 very close friends die
because their car had slid on ice, hit a guard rail, flew off the road, and
came to rest upside down in a creek.
They both were wearing seat belts and as their weight was now against them, it
jammed the belt latches and they both drowned to death. He was on the scene
with the wrecker to pull the vehicle out of the creek and saw, first hand, the
wonderful job that the belts had done to his friends. Needless to say,
he also, LIKE ME, disagrees with the government so called tests that say seat
belts save lives....
I have personally had a wreck that if I had been wearing seat belts and could
not have "dove" down on the front seat, I would have been decapitated by a
large door on a truck that had swung open when he rounded a curve and took the
top off of my pickup...
Another time, years ago, when I worked as a mechanic for a tractor and trailer
company, one of the folks who worked in our parts department went to Ohio to
pick up a trailer load of parts. Seat belts were just starting to appear and
of course they were, at that time, optional. He was so proud as he had one of
the first over the shoulder harness seat belts... On his way back on the
Pennsylvania Turn Pike some lady had pulled off the road. When she decided to
get back on the turnpike she missed seeing the tractor and trailer approaching
from the rear and she pulled right out into the "high speed" traffic. Our man
was driving behind the guy in front by about 10 car lengths. The trailer in
front of him was towing a "flat-bed" trailer loaded with steel rods. When the
woman pulled out right in front of him he immediately reached up on the
steering column and pulled a lever that automatically "locked" the brakes on
his trailer and he came to a squealing halt! The thing is, he also had a brand
new, over the shoulder, seat belt on and when the trailer brakes locked and
the rig stopped with a lurch, the load of steel rods shifted forward and went
right through the steel "bulkhead" on front of the flatbed and right through
the back of the tractor cab, and right through the driver and out through the
windshield!
The state police estimated that if not for the seat belt, the driver probably
would have been thrown to the floor and the rods would have missed him.
When our driver ran up to the rig to check on the driver etc., he saw just
what had happened. He immediately took out his pocket knife, went back to his
truck and "cut" out his brand new "over the shoulder" seat belt!
That's just a couple of stories and don't include any of the many, many,
experiences I had myself when I had a wrecking business for years and went out
to many wrecks to tow the damaged vehicles. I saw many times where the old
laptop seat belts almost cut through people's bodies! I even wrote to the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and told them of the instances and
relayed to them that I thought the belts were a "death trap." Of course I
probably reached someone who just "round filed" my letters. But I felt
better as I thought I was a least trying to do something about it..
I guess by now you know my opinion about seat belts and air bags.. As
far as the air bags go, if I ever had a bad accident and my air bag was
deployed, it probably would kill me if the accident didn't, as I have a really
bad heart with less than 25% function left...
I can't get the darn thing disconnected as anyone that could do it for me,
tells me it would void my insurance, and of course, you can't blame them, they
are afraid of lawsuits should an accident happen, and I would be hurt because
the seat belt was disconnected...
Oh well, sometimes you just can't win, for losing!
That's my bitch for this log.. I have another dandy for the next one, but I'd
better quit on this one now as it is starting to get very long... No one will
have the time to read the entire blog!!!

So, for now, for me, it's back to work, and YOU, YOU have a
GREAT day!!!
(I'll see you right back here just as soon as I can!
Okay?)

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
King Henry VIII allowed Sir Thomas More and Anne Boleyn to choose how they
would die. The official punishment for treason---the charge against Sir Thomas
--- was hanging, drawing, and quartering; Sir Thomas chose to be beheaded.
Henry's second wife---and the first of two of his wives to be executed---was
allowed to be decapitated by a swordsman, specially brought from France,
instead of being burned to death!
(Boy, thank goodness King Henry VIII was such a nice guy, right? - Chuck)

It was a nice sunny day
here in Central Pennsylvania.... However, it's really cold here, in the
northeast... I'm really sorry I'm late getting up this post. Don't give
up on me though as hopefully I can get back to posting at least 2 or 3
times a week now...
*************************************
I've been spending the last week just trying to keep from freezing. We put in
our new stoker stove 3 winters ago and it's been doing a "bang up" job as far
as keeping us warm. But these temperatures this past week is just too darn
cold for it to keep up... We don't normally get cold spells like these.
Once in a while it will drop to zero but usually that's just for one night and
then the temperature rebounds back up into the 20's or 30's but not this time.
I guess I did too much bragging last month, January, when we were having the
warmest January since the end of the 1800s. Well, you can bet that Mother
Nature is getting back at me this month and that's for sure...
I even had to dig out the kerosene space heater to warm up the living room in
the evenings and maybe the kitchen in the morning..
As far as the garage that's attached to the cottage that contains our pump,
water pipes, and hot water heater, I had to assemble our propane heater so I
could put that on for a few hours overnight to keep our pipes from freezing.
Whew! We haven't even used these heaters since we put in the new stove... I'm
sure glad that I didn't get rid of them or we would be in a heck of a shape.
*************************************
It's gotten so cold as you can see by the pictures on the left, the river has
come to a complete halt!
Yep the ice has frozen solid over the river and Geez... I hate to see that as
I really don't like it in the Spring, when the ice decides to break loose.
When you live right beside the river, like we do, when the ice breaks loose in
the spring, it actually sounds like a cannon being shot off! It will
even
shake you out of a deep sleep. Then, the ice will begin to move down river in
giant chunks. However, more likely than not will be become jammed at the bend
in the river below us. When that happens it acts like a dam and the water
begins to back up and it backs up VERY fast. You can actually stand on our
back deck and watch it rise. It comes up very fast and scares the daylights
out of you as all you can do is hope that it breaks loose before it starts to
come into the basement and then the house...
It is VERY scary and I really do not look forward to it.
This is the first time in 3 years that it's frozen over the river. As warm as
it was last month in January, I thought sure that we would "escape" this
pending catastrophe again this year but, alas, Mother Nature apparently has
decided differently.
At any rate, as cold as it is now, I guess I won't have to worry about the ice
breaking up for awhile.

It looks like the gasoline prices are going to creep back up now because of
our misfortune here, in the northeast because, of this cold spell... I
can almost see the saliva dripping out of the big oil company's executive's
mouths, as now, armed with a good excuse, they can push the prices of gasoline
back up so they again will be making record profits... The little gas station
down here in Dauphin, right below where I live, raised it's regular back up 3¢
to $2.15 today. That's the first it's gone up for a few weeks. I got gas
yesterday at Costco's in Harrisburg, and they also raised their prices on
regular from $2.09 to $2.11 so I guess that's a good indication that all of
the stations will begin to raise their prices...
As far down as a barrel of oil got, the price for gas should now be about
$1.60 a gallon... Ha! I guess we're lucky that they even came down to near 2
bucks a gallon!
Crude oil prices fell some on Wednesday, but then went back up a bit today. So
I'm not going to bet on anything at the moment...
What would make me as happy as a pig in a nice damp sty, would be for the
weather, here in the east, to get real nice and warm again. That would really
throw a cold towel on the oil companies and the Arabs over in the Middle East!
Yep, that would really please me.. Chances of that, at this stage of the game,
however, are slight to none! Oh well, I can dream, can't I?
****************************************
I took notice in THE WEEK, a weekly news magazine that they had
an article asking, "Spanking: Should it be a crime?"
Every parent knows the feeling. Little Johnny has just unscrewed the top of
the drain cleaner under the sink. Or perhaps he's poking an inquisitive finger
into a light socket. At that moment, you gram him and, without thinking, swat
him on the backside. Well, if one California legislator has her way, said the
Los Angeles Times in an editorial, that act of discipline will
soon be a crime! Last Week, state Assemblywoman Sally Lieber introduced
legislation that would prohibit parents from spanking children younger than 4.
A violation would be a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail or a
$1,000 fine. Never mind that nine out of 10 parents have used physical
discipline on occasion, and that such a law would be unenforceable. Lieber
insists that a spanking ban would end the "ridiculous situation of having our
law saying there's justifiable beating of children."
Apparently, Lieber can't tell the difference between a spanking and a beating,
said Debra Saunders in the San Francisco Chronicle.
Cops and social workers certainly can, and they already "have their hands full
dealing with adults who beat, torture, or otherwise abuse children." It would
be both absurd and counter-productive to require public officials to chase
down every report of a weary mom smacking her kid on the fanny. I'm one of
those weary moms, said Patty Fisher in the San Jose
Mercury News, and "I confess," Years ago, I whaled my 2-year
daughter's "little diapered bottom" when she ran into the street and nearly
got herself killed by a mail truck. Granted, it was hardly my proudest moment
as a mother, but "did I scar her for life?" I doubt it, "She says she doesn't
even remember that day." One thing's for sure; "She never ran into the street
again!"
That will give you an idea of just what the article's all about....
So you don't have to run out and buy a copy of the magazine, I searched and
found the article on their web site.. Just click here to finish reading it...
SPANKING
Most of you that's read my blog, here, for any length of time, knows or can
guess what I think about this subject..
Personally, I think that parents of today need to incorporate a bit more
corporal punishment such as spanking into their parental duties. I think we
would have a much better behaved, law abiding, new generation coming along if
this small change would happen.
I find it hard to believe that in general people are raising a bunch of
mindless wimps and then wander why they stay at home for so long after they
grow up..
Maybe wimps is not the word I'm looking for but that's the only one that came
to mind when I think that because children are left on their own to do
whatever it is they want, as long as they don't bother mom and dad, grow up
without the inking of an idea how to treat other people, their elders, or even
how to get a job and take care of themselves...
It doesn't matter even, (in most cases, not all the kids), if mom and dad worked
their behinds off to supply them with a college education or not...
They don't learn in regular school, and they sure as heck don't learn in
college either..
They lack the basic knowledge of respect for others and themselves..
That's why you see children going into their schools and killing teachers and
other students and then turning the weapons on themselves. They have no respect
for others or themselves... It's all one big game to them as mom and dad never
took the time to instill in them basic family values..
It's even getting worse now days as the parents with small children, have
been raised that way themselves. They just don't know anything about family
values themselves.
When have you EVER seen so many unmarried girls having children.
Did you know that it seems now, when a girl gets pregnant, that no one even
tells her that she's done something terribly wrong. Oh, and NO, I'm not
letting the boy off either.... Even if the children's parents don't have the
resources or money to raise their grandchildren it still doesn't matter and
everyone acts like that's okay.
The government will see that their medical bills are paid and that they have a
"roof over their heads," and of course food.. Actually, I've seen young people
who think this is great... They "live" together with their boyfriends, and
neither of them work.. Their hardest decision is how are they going to
get a little extra money to buy "smokes" or for that case of beer to watch
this Saturday's game on their television that one of the relatives donated to
them. Are they worried about getting married? Heck no, that would spoil
everything as at least the "man" of the family would be expected to work to
work and try an EARN an living!
The last I read, 51% of single parent families are women who have children out
of wedlock. Why is this happening? You guessed it, they were not taught
responsibility when they were growing up... Now it's even worse as they may
be, themselves, one who never had a proper family and was just raised by one
parent..
Betty has grandkids that have several children each and have NEVER been
married!
We have neighbors that are in the same position.. They are not on welfare
rolls thank goodness, but that still means that the children will have to be
raised by just one parent and be mostly raised by strangers as the mom, or the
dad, will be too busy keeping house and earning a living... (And oh, by the
way, isn't this situation and great example to set their their children?)
What's my solution? Well, frankly, it's much more complicated than to have
just one person come up with a solution, but I can tell you what I think. That
at least something can be done to start with.
First of all, get the darn government out of your personal affairs...
That's going to be tough as if you want them to help pay for your housing,
medicinal bills, food, etc., they are going to want some say in what your kids
are taught... THAT'S WRONG! That's been happening for over the last 30 years
and it AIN'T working! Just look around you at the state things are in.
To get things on the right track, folks will have to begin to accept
responsibility and do that NOW! I know that's easier said than done, but that
will be the place to start... The way kids are raised, I'm afraid they just
may be too darn lazy to accept responsibility, but we can't continue in the
direction that we are now, as we'll never be able to build enough jails... to
keep a lot of them in.
(THAT'S A WHOLE OTHER STORY.)
*********************************
Talk about another story, if you like to hunt and shoot mark with your rifles,
shot guns and hand guns, you'd better get up to date on just how the
government plans to take those rights away... There are already laws that have
been passed to
do this... If you just Yell at your significant other, and they file a
complaint against you, you will lose your right to own weapons for your entire
lifetime... Take notice I didn't say that you MAY lose your rights, but you
WILL lose your rights!!!
I'm way out of time today so I won't get into this. I know some of you could
care less about guns and that's okay too. However, many of us believe that if
our weapons are taken away, the only people to have weapons will be the
crooks.
Also, I don't hunt anymore, but have many friends who do. It's a shame that so
many small things can "take" that right to hunt, away ..
I heard a story yesterday that a fellow that was half way through his training
to become a State Trooper was "kicked" out of school as someone got angry at
him for some reason or another, and took the time to search him on the WEB, and found that several years ago,
he and his dad got into a yelling match, no weapons were involved at all, but
his dad did file a complaint against him because of it.. It seems this
is a federal law, and that any kind of complaint filed against someone related to
that type of argument, states that all of his guns, ALL guns, not just hand
guns, will be confiscated and never returned to him. He also will not be
allowed to become a State Trooper as let's face it, he's not allowed to carry
a weapon...
Until I get time to discuss this stuff more, you can check and get all the
rulings of what they are doing to our gun rights by visiting this site;
http://gunowners.org/
Don't believe me, check it out yourself.
Oh, one more thing, one of my neighbors started a divorce with his wife, she
countered filed and the first thing they did was visit him and gather up his
guns... He had no hand guns but did have guns for his favorite sport, HUNTING!
What a shame.....
***********************************
Now you can see what happens when I don't post up here for awhile... I go nuts
and don't know when to quit typing... I have lots more to "talk" about so I'll
have to get back here in a few days...
In the mean time YOU, YOU have a GREAT weekend!
(I'll see you right back here just as soon as I can!
Okay?)

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
David_________ (his last name has never been publicly revealed) has lived all
of his life in a sterile environment. He suffers the rare disease known as
sever combined immune deficiency, and this body is unable to fight off even
the most common germs. (By living in a germfree life-support system, which is
enclosed in a see-through plastic bubble, he has never experienced a sick day,
except for his disease, for which doctors say there is still no treatment.) On
his seventh birthday, in 1978, he wasn't able to blow out the candles on his
cake---they weren't allowed in the bubble, so he was only able to see them.
About a hundred people are known to have bee born with this blood disorder,
and David is the oldest of five survivors. David lives with his family in
Houston, and walks out of doors wearing an astronaut's suit with a
plastic-bubble helmet!
