Today was another beautiful day here in Central Pennsylvania. It started out nice and sunny but that only lasted until about 2 PM and then we had rain the rest of the day. It's also supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow... But then what's that old adage? April showers bring May flowers....  Well, at this rate, we should see a lot of May flowers!
**************************************
I picked up our daily paper out side to bring in this morning and couldn't help but see some of the front page headlines...  I usually like to get at least a half cup of coffee, (de-caffeinated) before I even glance at them but couldn't help this morning.
To give you an example:
GUN BACKERS RALLY AT CAPITOL
INDIANA PRISON RIOT
POTENTIAL FOR $4 GAS FUELS IRE OF DRIVERS
BILL WOULD LET COLLEGES TELL PARENTS OF PROBLEMS .. (This one's a bit late, but better late than never..
You know the more I read all this stuff in the newspapers and the WEB, I swear that most of the world's and especially our countries problems could be solved with good old common sense!
**************************************
If you get a few minutes check out Newsweek's magazine online edition as they do have a lot of good stuff there.
They have a poll question there every week. Last week's was, Do you believe NBC and CBS were right to have fired radio personality Don Imus? The results were: YES - 23%, NO - 74% and NOT SURE - 3%.  That was the results of 59,281 people voting.
At least I know I'm not the only one who felt that Imus got a raw deal out of his stupid remarks.. If we were all held, literally, to everything that we said stupid, we be in a heck of a shape.... At least I know I would be... Yes, as I said before, he should have been punished. But to lose his living, NO he should NOT have.
This week's poll is, In the wake of the Virginia attacks, does the United States need stricter gun-control laws? I say NO, big brother has already taken enough of our personal rights! Also, If they take our guns, or put more restrictions on them, I truly believe that the only ones who will be bearing weapons are the criminals! And that's a fact, Jack!
There is no way, by taking guns from law, abiding citizens, that you are going to stop one bad apple, once in awhile, from going "nut-so" and killing people. Whether it be at a college campus, a school campus, or a McDonalds restaurant a few years back. However, if you have some armed citizens around, people who were not afraid to apply for gun permits and go to hand gun schools to learn how to properly handle them, you just may have a chance of one of these citizens stopping some pinhead, like at the McDonald's Restaurant from killing almost 20 people before the police finally arrived to put him out of his misery.
I really pity our children, grand children, and great grand children, from knowing how it used to be when you could trust your fellow man. Like when I was small, and when we went away, Mom would make sure there was always food in the fridge, so if someone stopped and we weren't home, they could "help themselves" and have something to eat while they waited for us to return. Or always having a pencil and paper on the kitchen table so they could let a note in case they had to leave before we got home..
You didn't have to worry about someone "breaking" into your home to rob you of your personal stuff and furniture etc., as the neighbors would always keep an eye on your place. If someone was there that shouldn't be they may find a neighbor poking a shotgun at them wanting to know just what the heck they were doing..
Strangers knew not to mess around someone's home when they weren't around or they just may be picking buckshot from their butts for a week! Ah yes, "the good ole days!"
At any rate, back to Newsweek online... Jump in, take the poll and look over some very good articles... Just click here: www.xtra.newsweek.com

Did you take notice of the mention of gasoline going up to $4.00 a gallon this summer! I can say one thing, if it does, Betty and I will be spending more time at home than we usually do. We have already cut back on our travels and if it goes that high, we will be cutting back even more.
I think the big oil companies just want to see how far they can push us..  I think Americans surprised them when it shot up and stayed near 3 bucks a gallon that people just continued to pay the "toll," and keep running around on their vacations etc...
If people don't STOP using up gasoline like there's no end, these people will continue to overcharge us....
Don't forget it's not just the gasoline that's going up... Everything is going up as everything is shipped to it's destination by trucks, and trucks use fuel.. I was talking to a restaurant owner a couple of days ago and he was telling me about the various foods and what they cost a year ago and what they cost now, and most have increased 50% about what they were. If something was $5.00 a pound, it's now $7.50 a pound!  He claims that if he tries to raise his eating prices that much to cover it, people would stop coming...  So, even though he did raise his prices a small amount, he's just plain, making less money this year than he did last year!
Of course it's that way with all of our products, not just food... If it doesn't stop, people will need large increases in their salaries just to be able to buy what they did a year ago, and even if that would happen, (I doubt it,) it would just inflate our money to much less that what it's worth to start with... One big giant circle... It's just won't stop!
Two years ago, the horror of paying $2 for a gallon of regular gasoline had some motorists curling up in the fetal position. Today, mid-staters would relish filling up at that price! That's a quip from The Patriot News, our daily paper out of Harrisburg, PA....  and it's the truth...  I remember when gas started to climb right after the big hurricane and it started to get close to the $2 mark. I thought it will NEVER go about that $2 mark....  Heck, it never stopped and it ended up going to $3 and above! It has NEVER gone back down to about $1.28 where it was before the hurricane...  You can't tell me that everything in the world has changed that much in just a two year period..  I'll tell you what has changed.... The oil companies found out that us stupid Americans, even with being faced with outrageous prices, will continue to drive our cars no matter how much they price gouge us! That's what changed, and it will NEVER go back to a fair price...  Even the feds and the state's governments just can't wait to jump in and tax the gasoline even more than they do now!  Our governor, Ed Rendall, wrote a letter to President Bush demanding to know why the gasoline prices are continually rising even though the cost of crude oil continues to go down... Today, he said he has yet to receive an answer to his letter..  However, today he also said, that he is thinking of putting more taxes on the big oil company profits....  (Making it sound like he's going to punish them for overcharging us.)  Geez..... what do you think the oil companies will do about that.... You're right, they'll just charge us even more for the cost of a gallon and blame it on the States!!!
Is your backside starting to hurt yet!  It should be, as they are having their weird fun with all of us and there is not a darn thing we can do about it.
In the Harrisburg area the average per gallon of gasoline stayed under $2 until March 15, 2005, almost exactly 2 years ago. It hasn't went under $2 a gallon since then, a period of 109 weeks!
The only way for Americans to fight back is to travel less and buy less gasoline.. Easier said than done, especially for those who must use their automobiles to get to work. But there are plenty of other trips that we can cut back on... You know it and I know it... Let's do it, before it's too late!

SOME STUFF FOR MY MAIL ORDER/MLM/HOMEBUSINESS FRIENDS
It's seems like no matter how you try to please all of your customer's there is no way that you will be able to. This old saying is true and always will be:
You can please some of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time.
Example:
I received this letter from  a man that joined a small $5 Pre-Launch downline building program that I did back in early 2005. As a matter of fact, on the copy of his custom circular that promoted it, with his name on, that he sent along back to me today, it clearly states: The pre-launch will end on July 31, 2005 so hurry!!!
Here's a copy of the note that he sent along with it to me. Of course I'm not going to say his name:
Dear Chuck,
Enclosed is a copy of the Pre-Launch Flyer. I have sent over 1,000 flyers to prospective customers. Please let me know how I stand in this program.
I am also waiting for the downline, newsletter, application and other information that will be mailed to me.
Please reply,
xxxxxxxxxx
Well, first of all I did send him the things that he listed back in August of 2005! It's no wonder that he doesn't recall getting them! Also, I hope he didn't mail out the "!,000" flyers that he claimed he mailed lately as it sure would be a waste of money, especially when the flyer clearly states that the program ends on July 31, 2005!
Now, I'll have to take at least a half hour to write him a letter, get an envelope typed and another 39¢ stamp to tell him that he has been apparently "sleeping" for 2 years!
What a waste of his time, my time, and two good stamps. One for him to send me that garbage, and one for me to answer it!
Now, you can see why that you will never please all of them, all of the time! (Ha!)
*************************************
It's starting to get a bit late here in my home office so I'll wrap up this post for today, and YOU, YOU have a GREAT day!
(I'll see you right back here just as soon as I can! Okay?)

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
Count Rumford (1753-1814), who was the first to develop the modern theory of heat, was born in the American colonies (Wolburn, Massachusetts) but was a Tory during the Revolutionary War and spied for the British, reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel in the British army. He left with the British forces and spent the rest of his life in Europe. In 1791, he was made a count of the Holy Roman Empire. He chose his title from the name of the town, Rumford (later Concord), New Hampshire, where his wife was born. He did not entirely forget his native land. When he died in 1814 (while Great Britain was fighting a second war with the now-independent United States), he left most of his estate to the U.S. and endowed a professorship in applied science at Harvard!

T.G.I.F.
We had a beautiful day here in Central Pennsylvania. The sun was out and it went up to about 70 degrees. Just a beautiful Spring day. It's about time and it has been cold all month and the television weathercasters were just about ready to name it the coldest April ever...  Yes, thank goodness that we finally hit a warm spell..  It's also been raining so much around here that the river that runs through our back yard has been up and down like a "yo-yo!" It came up pretty high there a couple of times and got a bit "hairy."
***************************************
A lot of things happened this week and I missed out on a lot of them. Monday was ok and I got a good bit done, mostly stuff around the house as I thought, then I could take the next few days and get caught up with stuff here in the office...  Well, by Monday evening I started to feel pretty darn bad... Hmmm.. I thought, maybe I was just extra tired as I did get a lot of stuff done...  But when I went to sleep and woke up a few times to hit the "head" but didn't wake up there after until after 11 in the morning I kind of figured something was wrong as when I did wake up I had the "shivers" and when Betty took my temperature it confirmed that I had a fever... I had no appetite at all and later I started with diarrhea.  I was so weak the furthest I got from the bed was to my recliner in the living room...  Didn't matter as Betty gave me some pills for the flu and to bring down my fever. All I could do was sleep and go to the "head"..... a real busy day. After the first day the diarrhea went away, but I just couldn't stay awake more than a short time and then it was to either shed covers, or beg Betty for more as I was "freezing." This crap went on until yesterday morning when I finally started to feel a bit better and got better as the day progressed. I soaked in the tub for about 2 hours and got dressed and really started to feel much better but I just couldn't get my head in gear to get anything done here in the office until today. So, I guess, you could say that I lost the entire week and I'm still not sure why. I had no cough, and no stuffiness, just a lot of fever and chills and sleepy all the time...  What ever it was is finally going away and I'm feeling much better...
As I wasn't eating practically anything, Betty didn't eat much either so I guess tomorrow, I'll take her out and feed her at her favorite restaurant. It's the least I can do after her playing nurse to me all of the week and taking care of me...
I didn't get anything done, but I'm glad that week is finally over...
*****************************************
As I said, I didn't get that much done around here, but that didn't stop the world...  I just couldn't believe it when that dude went nuts down at Virginia Tech and killed 32 mostly young folks and injured another 24! My god, what a terrible, terrible thing...  I feel so sorry for the young folks hurt and killed, and especially their families...
I even felt worse when I found out that the authorities even knew this kid wasn't "wrapped" too tight and left him run around the campus anyway! What a waste and what a stupid thing to happen when they had even shipped this guy to a mental hospital for evaluation and they even said that he needed help... They claim that the law stopped them from even notifying his parents as they would be invading his personal rights.. What a crock of crap...
This is another case of too damn many silly laws. Too many lawyers, legislators, and law makers trying to justify their existence by enacting stupid laws that only they have any inking of why there must be a law for what ever...
When did common sense completely get tossed out of the window? Other female students even reported him for stalking them and harassing them with emails and phone calls. When does someone in the police business, say, hey, this guy is just too much trouble and needs to be kicked out of school and sent home or put into some kind of place that he can get help for himself and protect society from him?
All this misery he caused, and all they can say is, that we couldn't say anything or we would have been violating his rights... Well, there should have been an exception... To heck with his rights.... What about the rights of all the people that he hurt and killed.... Didn't they need their rights protected just as much as this dude?
Well, let see....... Now I'll give some of the do gooders about another ten minutes to start blaming it on guns.  Yep it's the guns fault... Better take the right of everyone to bear a weapon except idiots like this... That will solve everything.... Yeah, sure it will... In a pigs eye it will...
My sincere heartfelt sympathy to all the young folks that were hurt and all of the families involved in this massacre.
****************************************
Well, gasoline prices are still climbing around here where I live and I imagine all over America. The cost of crude oil continues to drop and the cost of fuel continues to increase...
It's finally reached the point that today, our governor of Pennsylvania, Edward Rendell, has written a letter to President Bush demanding for someone to investigate why the price of crude oil is going down and the cost of gasoline is going up...
It's probably just a political move, but I am very interested to see if he even gets an answer to his letter and even more interested in what it will say!
Geez.... I hope it soon slacks off as it's getting close the 3 bucks a gallon again.. It's just plain nuts... Crazy.....
We'd better start doing a lot of importing of the little "skate boards" with wheels that the British call cars over here, because pretty soon, we'll be lucky if we can buy enough gas for even them to run...
You know, I'm surprised that some young business entrepreneur hasn't come up with that idea... I bet they'd sell pretty darn good. Especially to Mr. and Mrs. Average. I know darn well that I'd be interested in one of them... As long as they could keep up with the traffic so folks wouldn't run over you, they should be okay...  Heck when I see foreign movies and car chases over there they seem to get around pretty darn good....
I know if I was younger I'd sure check into it and see if it was feasible to import them and still make a fair profit with them...
The closest we have to them is the small mini-car, and the V W Beetle. There used to be one many years ago, called the Renault Dauphine.  It was a cute little car and we used to have one on our car lot.. I started to drive it home as I lived about 30 miles from work. Believe it or not, I used to get over 40 miles to the gallon with that thing and it wasn't a bad ride.. It was actually fun to drive and would hold 4 adults very comfortably with plenty of leg and head room...  Of course it wasn't a speed demon, but it held it's own in "drive time" traffic.....  Yes, I wish I had that little devil now...
I think we sold it off the lot for $600 bucks... but you must remember this was back in the late 60's and it was a one owner used car...
****************************************
Just in this past week, two more young soldiers died that lived here in Central Pennsylvania....  It's enough to make you cry...  What a heck of a mess that we've gotten into.... and really..... for absolutely nothing....
No weapons of mass destruction, and not one of the terrorists that destroyed the World Trade Center and many, many families, even came from Iraq..... All for nothing... What a shame....  Not only a shame for all the young people we lost in the war so far, and the tons of money, but also now, we're known as the aggressors and not the protectors of freedom....  When will the politicians learn that they will never get all Americans support a war unless we are attacked first..... Then everyone in America will be up and ready to protect their country..... They will never have full support of the people for their, politicians, own agendas...  It just will never happen that way...
Personally, I'm still trying to figure out why Bush wanted to attack Iraq.... Anyone out there that can set me straight.. My emails at the end of this post....
***************************************
Well, my friend, it's almost time to start the weekend, and I have some stuff to get done first..  I'm sure you do as well, as for YOU, YOU have a GREAT weekend!
(I'll see you right back here just as soon as I can! Okay?)

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
Stephen Decatur, U.S. naval hero of the Tripoli campaign and of the War of 1812, was challenged in 1820 to a duel by a fellow officer, Commodore James Barron, who was nearsighted. To accommodate his opponent, Decatur agreed to exchange shots at only eight paces. Barron killed him!

It's not a bad day here in Central Pennsylvania with the sun shinning, at least until tonight. Then it's supposed to cloud up and we're supposed to get at least a half inch of rain over night. Actually tomorrow night they are calling for a "snow" event. I guess that means that we're supposed to get snow..  Some are calling for up to 5 and a half inches of the white stuff, it all depends which newscaster you listen to on our 3 local stations. It's almost unbelievable for this time of the year around these parts.
After losing my entire tomato patch last year, because the river came up and washed it away, this year, I'm only going to put out 3 plants.. If they produce pretty good, it should keep Betty and I in fresh tomatoes for a few months..
I've got my fingers crossed anyway on that one.
***************************************
In the last post I had mentioned about the Don Imus affair and in my estimation, he did screw up and should never have said what he did. This was before he lost his job over it. Well, now, he's out of work....  I hope "they" are all feeling better now. By "they" I mean the so called "preachers", Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson demanding that he not only apologize for his statements, and get a 3 week suspension from his job, but they insisted that he lose his livelihood because of it.
Well since my last post, Imus has been fired from his job. He was in the second day of his fundraising radio campaign for 3 charities; over the last 18 years, the Imus-hosted Radiothon raised more than $40 million dollars.
Because Imus was fired, his wife sat in at the fundraiser to they could finish the event.
Also, because of his firing from the public airwaves it also deprives him of a platform to raise money for the sprawling Imus Ranch, where children with cancer and other illnesses get a taste of cowboy life. With Imus out of a job, some wonder whether the pipeline to charity money will eventually dry up.
Yes, it's all his fault with a stupid statement that he should know better than to say.. He met with the Rugers University women's basketball team and they have accepted his apology.
Imus also commented that "There's not an African-American parent on the planet who has sent their child to the Imus Ranch who didn't trust me and trust my wife," he said on his show. "And when these kids die, we don't just go to the white kid's funeral."
You know it wouldn't set with me so bad if the "hip hop" "singers" didn't say a heck of a lot more bad things in their songs about their women and each other calling them much more than the comment that Imus made..  I guess that's okay with everyone though...
Well, that's the last I'll say about it, except that it's a done gone shame for all the children to be punished for one stupid sentence... Nuff.... said.....
********************************
Warm weather is on the way....  Just as sure as the sun comes up each morning....

SOME STUFF FOR MY MAIL ORDER/MLM/HOMEBUSINESS FRIENDS
When doing your advertising budget, don't forget the lowly classified ad. Buck for Buck of your advertising budget you will not get a better pulling ad that will pay for itself and develop you a profit over and over...
Take the time to write a good one, and then place it in a lot of economical papers to "try it out", before going to the higher publications..
This past week, I received 5 inquiries from just one such classified ad to only 5,000 circulation and so far, one of those has developed into a  downline colleague in one of my Multi-Level Companies! Not bad for an ad that only cost a few bucks each time I run it! Not bad at all..
***********************************
Well, it's time for me to get back to work, even though it's Saturday, I do have a lot of work backed up and I do want to get some yard work done today before the rains show up, and YOU, YOU have a GREAT day!!!
(I'll see you right back here just as soon as I can! Okay?)

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
Alfred Lunt, a famous theater actor, became very nervous if he played to a theater with any empty seats. He was really only happy with an audience that included standees. One night, during the run of Idiot's Delight, there were a few empty seats. So the playwright Russell Crouse got out a dummy that had been a prop in another play, dressed him, stood him up in the back of the house, and told Lunt there were standees. Lunt was delighted, and told Crouse after the performance that "one standee was so interested in the play that he hardly moved at all!"

Sorry, I'm late posting as usual. Don't wait another week to check on another post as I will be posting more often from now on...
I was under the weather there for a few days and as usual got behind.. This is a bad time of the year for sinus problems and also for colds... Just about every other person I know it seems is suffering from a cold..
Like my mom used to say, "This is definitely cold-catching weather." One day it's nice and warm and the next day is cold as heck.
Today it was cold and windy with a bit of rain mixed in. Over night we're supposed to get at least an inch of rain, so sure enough by tomorrow they will have out the "small stream" flood warnings.
I don't think that it will affect the mighty Susquehanna River that runs through our back yard, but it will definitely raise the smaller streams..
****************************************
About 4 years ago, when we had a bit of a flooding problem from the river, a large tree was deposited right off our back yard about 250 feet out into the water..
It just looked like the devil and a lot of birds would use it to rest on. The fishermen loved it as they would be there off and on almost each day fishing under it and around it for fish hiding in it's roots and limbs under water... It was nothing more for us than a big "eye sore."
After high water situations over the last 4 years, sure enough, it was till there.  HOWEVER, after the ice break last month, it looks like the ice took our tree with it! It wouldn't move before as the roots were pointed up stream and the limbs were all pointed down steam and were holding it fast from floating away. But when the ice broke this year, by golly the broken ice can get pretty powerful and it must have broken up the huge tree and carried it off... Good riddance... That's all I have to say about it, nothing good and that's for sure...
I remember one time, Betty's son, John called me and asked when I was going to go out and hack it up with a chain saw so it would float down the river.. I just told him to hold on til he came up to our place again.. Then when he came up, I pointed out that the darn thing was in, what they call a river channel, that even when the river is low, down to a couple of feet, the channel is still about 8 feet deep! Too darn deep to stand there and cut it up with a chain saw... Of course, I told him, if you'd like to try, I'll go get my chain saw to which he immediately said that he didn't think so!
*******************************************
I don't know about where you live, but gas is still climbing around these parts...  It's just plain sickening... I filled up the Jeep this morning. I checked my odometer, and there was only 117 miles on if from the last fill up..  It cost exactly $21.00 to fill the tank so in essence, it cost $21.00 to go a lousy 117 miles! Isn't that ridiculous?
Yeah, that's what I figure too... It's just plain nuts, and according to the local papers, it's going to go up even more before it levels off and then it will probably stay there the rest of the Summer! Nuts!!!
Around here here's how gas prices have fluctuated:
Yesterday $2.762         on April 11, 2006 $2.681
On March 27 $2.612     on April 12, 2005 $2.184
On Feb. 27 $2.392        on April 13, 2004 $1.697
On Jan. 30 $2.141         on April 9, 2002 $1.337
Now, if that isn't enough to tic you off.... I don't know what it will take! In only 5 years, the price of gasoline went from $1.337 to $2.762 more than double and it's still going up each and every day... Where will it stop? --  When will our troops come home?..... Your guess on either question is as good as mine for both questions....

What do you think about the Imus upset? I know he shouldn't have said what he did, and he SHOULD be punished for it, however, do you really think that the man should lose his job for the piss poor judgment that he made? I don't think it should be a firing offense..
Even if he called me a worthless piece of crap personally, I don't think he should be fired for it...
At any rate, time will only tell, they're after his butt on this one that's for sure...  I hope everyone forgives each other and they all get along with their lives...

SOME STUFF FOR MY MAIL ORDER/MLM/HOMEBUSINESS FRIENDS
When you are sending to another dealer for an order, or for more information, please cut out their ad if possible and send it along so they know exactly just what you are inquiring about or exactly what you want to purchase..
I have this happen to me at least 2 times each week. Yesterday I received an envelope with 3 - $1.00 dollar bills in it requesting that I send the item that I had advertised..
First of all, I have out at least 30 different ads in various different places several of them are asking $3.00 for something, usually some kind of report. So I have no idea just what this person is sending me 3 bucks for..  Had they taken the time to clip out the ad and send it along it sure would save a lot of time, and there order probably would have went out today. If they couldn't clip the ad, they could have spent another 20 to 30 seconds in their note explaining just what they were ordering...
Now, I must take the time, to put their name and address in my database and type a note of all the pertinent information concerning the order, then take another 10 minutes writing them a note asking just what they had ordered and address an envelope, and enclose a self addressed stamped envelope for them to mail me back their answer, and they must pop 39¢ for another stamp to send that back then we must wait for my inquiry to get to them and their answer to get back to me to fulfill their order that should have been done the first time and over and done with.. All this for about 20 seconds of time spent describing just what they were sending for.. It's a darn shame.. Now, I'm half angry that it's taking all this extra time and expense to get their order squared away, and they're probably going to be half ticked up that they must follow up to get what they had already ordered and then wait again for it to be delivered.. all for about 20 seconds..
So next time, you order, take an extra minute if necessary and get all of your instructions down before dropping your order or inquiry in the mail... also, if the dealer had used a department number or letter, like Dept. A, PO Box 100, Anywhere, USA, make sure you use that department number or letter as that is usually a code to tell the dealer just what you are ordering and that can be quite a time saver as well...

Well, it's getting into a very late evening here, so I'm going to wrap it up for the day, and YOU, YOU have a GREAT day!
(I'll see you right back here just as soon as I can! Okay?)  ( Probably a couple or 3 days.)

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
As late as 1820, the universe was thought by European scientists to be 6,000 years old. It is now thought to be between 15 billion and 20 billion years old!

It's a beautiful day today here in Central Pennsylvania, if you're a duck, of course as it's been raining all day. Actually now we are having temps well below average as tomorrow we're on supposed to get to temps in the 40s.  Oh well, it's a heck of a lot better than snow storms.

Things have been going pretty good here at our cottage as Betty got a very good report for her colonoscopy at the beginning of this week.  She's in good shape for at least another 3 years... She gets checked often as her oldest daughter passed away from colon cancer. I even had one a couple of years ago. It's better to be safe than sorry..  The procedure is actually a snap as they put you to sleep to do it, but the preparation for the test, is really a "pain in the butt!) (Literally!)
Man, if you have your health, take care of it.....  Take it from me, it's fun to have life and get up everyday, but it's a heck of a lot more fun to get up each day and feel that burst of energy from a nice healthy body!
**************************************
I want to talk some about the gasoline prices growing and just getting plain, ridiculous again. I was talking to a friend today, in the state of Washington, that mentioned to me her husband must go 138 miles round trip to where he works each day. Wow! That's quite a trip and I mentioned to her that I bet that he's not happy and jokingly I said that maybe he should buy a motorcycle. She said that her husband IS seriously thinking of buying a motor cycle! I mentioned that it may be uncomfortable to run a bike that far each day to work and she said that he's a motorcycle buff anyway and wouldn't mind it...
I mentioned about getting caught in a rain storm and she said, "Hey, it's Washington, if it rains it's no big deal to us!"
I just wish more people in the United States would take that idea as that would really put a dent into the use of gasoline each day..  I feel that if more folks did something like that it would actually DRIVE down the prices.
Gas prices have actually risen 9 cents more over the last week around here. When it came down a little, a few months ago, it came down a cent or two over a period of a couple of weeks but when it goes up, they sure don't fool around..
It's going up again now, with not much of any kind of excuses from the Big oil companies...
Here's a short quip from one of our local newspapers.
With Easter travel just days away, prices at midstate gasoline pumps continue to rise. The paper surveyed 10 gas stations in the region put the average for a gallon of regular unleaded at $2.703, up 9.1 cents from just last week and 12.6 cents over last year!
Prices have risen for nine straight weeks. Since Jan. 30, the average has increased by 56.2 cents, adding $11.24 to the cost of a 20-gallon fill-up!
Yesterday, prices rose at all 10 outlets and ranged from $2.679 to $2.749.
Yesterday's AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report was at $2.696, up 10.5 cents from last week. On Monday, the U.S.  Energy Information Administration posted an average of $2.707, up 9.7 cents from March 26 and up 11.9 cents over last year.

Yep, as far as I'm concerned, it's just another rip off of the American people.  So, what else is new...
I guess we've just got to get the right people bitching....
Heck, why would our Senators and Representatives bother with it when we not only supply their transportation, but also their fuel to go to work and home and back to Washington, etc.?  Why should they care what the cost of fuel is?
At any rate, keep your chin up and keep on motoring..... Just try to do a bit less of it! Take one, you know, for the cause, and sit at home once in awhile, !

SOME STUFF FOR MY MAIL ORDER/MLM/HOMEBUSINESS FRIENDS
When you send out your promotional mailings, just make sure that you have enough postage on them... There are several ways to make sure... The best one of course being that you should really have your own digital postage scale. Actually, now days, you can get a pretty good one for less that 30 bucks!  The one I have is about 5 years old and cost me almost $200 with tax.  So they, like all of our electronic stuff, have really come down in cost over the last several years.  Now's the time to take advantage of it..
Put yourself in place of your potential customer....  You get a note from the post office that you have mail to pick up but it's short on postage and it's going to cost you 23 cents of postage to get it.. So, you pop for the postage to get the envelope that just may contain an order for you, or something else of importance, only to find out that the darn thing is just offers from another dealer who didn't bother to check his mailing for weight and just assumed that it would "ride" for the one ounce of postage stamp..
Would you buy anything from him/her? Would you join any of their business opportunities? I know for sure that I wouldn't!
So don't be thought of as a cheap so and so, and make sure you have enough postage on your promotional mailings...  If you are in doubt, take an one of the envelopes that you use the most, and fill it with 4 pieces of the kind of paper that you use for your circulars, take another one with 4 and a half pieces and then one with 5 pieces of paper in it. You will not get more than that sent for a 1 ounce mailing... Take these to the post office and have THEM weigh them for you. See which one and how much you should be mailing without going over the rate.... That's part of your job, and a very important one... make sure that you do it, post haste!
*******************************************
That's the post for today.... I want to close up, get my bath, and get to bed....  YOU, YOU have a GREAT day!!!
(I'll see you right back here just as soon as I can! Okay?)

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
The Incas, experts at organization and engineering, did not have wheels, arches, or writing. At the height of their power, before the Spanish conquest in 1532, the Incas ruled the entire area in South America from Quito, Ecuador, to the Rio Maule, Chile. Their empire was centered at Cuzco, Peru!

We had another beautiful, sunny day here at the Blue Bird Cottage in Central Pennsylvania...  Even the temps, at this moment, are above normal. Today we saw about 64 degrees. Not bad, not bad at all!
**********************************
We went grocery shopping today at the Weis store near our favorite Chinese Restaurant near Harrisburg today and they had a beautiful old truck there on display that was the first truck for a local business that originally started in 1921 as a "mom and pop" business. Talk about a small home business. Well, as you can see by the sign, this is one home business that grew into a very large business that's still around today. How far do they deliver now? I'm not sure but it would be interesting to know.. I know a lot of businesses here in central Pennsylvania that we're started years ago, even though they now seem huge, still are not in many other states.  Such as Lebanon Baloney. I thought once that they delivered Lebanon Baloney everywhere but that sure isn't true as we have a friend who lives in the State of Washington, and every year she used to have Betty and I pick up a large Lebanon Baloney and send her and lots of Tasty Cake, cup cakes. We used to send her a very large box of this stuff to her and she in turn would give them out to her family as Christmas gifts. All of here Children were born in this area and now live out that way and one even lives in Florida. At any rate when they get a taste of things from home, I'll bet it sure brings back childhood memories for them.
I just love hearing about home business success stories. There used to be many, many more before all of the large shopping Malls cropped up...
When I was a kid, we had a "corner store" that carried just about anything you needed around the house, to get by. Yep, they still had the big Weis stores back then, but in-between trips to the Weis market for food, mom would send my brother and I up to the corner store..
If my dad needed some 8 penny nails right away to use on a project he was working on, my brother and I would be on our way to the "corner store" for a pound of nails for him. I'm sure you get the idea..... It was not only a grocery store that carried food, but a general store that carried just about anything you could imagine.. Heck, I remember that my brother and I used to buy packs of "B-Bs" there for our B B guns...  Yep, they came in a small isinglass packet. The packets were connected together and were a penny each.. They were on a very large wheel. When you bought 10¢ worth, Mr. Mickey would count out 10 packs of the off the wheel and cut it off. I remember that 10 packs of B Bs were pretty heavy and they all wouldn't fit in just one of my pockets but I'd have to tear them up and put them in several of my pockets... Front and rear.....
Yes, the "corner store" was run by Mr. & Mrs. Mickey.. That was really a fun place, and yes, just like in the old pictures of general stores, there seemed to always be a couple or 3 oldsters playing checkers near the old wood/coal stove... Even in the Summer it seems they would hang out there and that was long before air conditioning...   If you took away the sign, and the gas pumps out side, the place would just look like another big house... Matter of fact, before Mr. and Mrs. Mickey turned it into a store, that's just what it was..
That was back when my brother, George and I, would roam the neighborhood looking for empty soda bottles as they were each worth 2¢ at the time... This was long before soda cans or even toss away bottles... If you would start to drink a 5¢ coke there, at the store, and decided you couldn't finish it and wanted to take it home with you, you had to give Mr. Mickey a 2¢ deposit fee on the bottle. Then when you took the bottle back, he would return your 2¢.
George and I didn't really buy that many sodas though as they, at 5 cents each, were pretty salty back then, when you figure you could buy a pretty good size candy bar for 3¢! That was called a lunch bar. If you wanted a Hershey bar, it cost you 5¢, but that was long before they cut down the size of them and for 5¢ you got a pretty good sized bar of candy. Plain chocolate, or chocolate and peanuts in the "Mr. Goodbar", or you could also get a "Mounds Bar" or a Mounds with Almonds Bar, that was made from Chocolate and Coconut and Almonds.... Boy where they ever good back then!  That's usually what George and I would get with our bottle deposit money...  Either a 3¢ "Lunch Bar" each or a couple of packs of B Bs for our B B guns... and if we were really lucky in finding empty bottles, both!
Back then, you rarely saw any bottles along the road that someone tossed out of their cars because they were worth money and if someone did toss out one or two, there was always someone like my brother and me to gather them up and turn 'em in for the money.. Heck, it was like finding treasure....

A few notes for the home business folks...
Don't forget that postage is going up on May 14th!  Now is a great time to do as many mailings as you can for prospects and customers...  Click here for the whole story on the Postal Rate Increase on May 14th.
It sounds pretty simple when you first hear about it. Postage is going from 39¢ to 41¢. Well, believe me, that's just the beginning. And if it weren't for Email, the postage rates per letter would increase much more than that!!!  The only thing that's holding them that low, and yes, I realize that it's not that low, is the fact that more and more people are using Email...
Take flat rate priority mail that is now an already whopping $4.05, and that just went up to that a short time ago. Well on the 14th of May that cost alone is rising to $4.60!!!
Yep, no puny 5% increase for the good ole' post office but a whopping 13%+!!!!!
I've said it for years, and I still say the the government is THE biggest inflator of money in the entire U. S. of A.!!!
It's very, very complicated this time and the article that I have posted just gives you some various ideas of some of the changes, but doesn't get down to the nitty-gritty like all of the various bulk mail costs that's going up...  It's a multitude of sins this time for sure...
So, you home business owners that depend on the mail to get out your promotions are really going to be scraping and costs on a lot of things are going to go up... They have to..
It's like for the last 4 postage increases of the last few years, I've eaten the costs of not only the postage increases, but the cost of paper, envelopes, etc. for my bulk mail Print and Mail Services, but this one is the "straw that broke the camel's back" as I cannot eat them again... The cost of a case of regular white, 8½" X 11" printing paper has risen from my cost of !6.99 to $24.95, and this I feel sure is due to the cost of shipping because of the increased fuel prices...  That' just over the last year...  I think since the "dreaded" hurricane down south that the oil companies originally blamed the jack up in gasoline and diesel prices shipping costs has hit the ceiling...
I think for awhile the shipping companies were "eating" the high fuel costs themselves waiting for the fuel to go back to where it belonged but after the first year and they realized that it was NEVER coming back down they had to adjust their shipping prices to compensate for it. That shoved the cost of everything, and I mean everything, that is shipped by truck, including food prices to shoot up...  and you can't blame them as they can't "eat" their rising costs either...
At any rate, I'm going to hold out until May when the postage goes up once again, but then my Print & Mail rates will be rising to help compensate for the cost of just about everything... Heck I'm making much, much less now then when I started the Print & Mail service about 10 years ago!
******************************
Talk about the cost of gasoline.... It's still going up around our area here, with not even the peep of an excuse from the oil companies as to why...|
Most places that I passed when I was out today were up 3¢ a gallon than they were Monday when I was out last!  That's ridiculous, but what are we going to do about it? Just what we did when it went up to 3 bucks a gallon... Keep buying it... No one wants to cut back... They just let other bills go so they can buy gasoline...  We, Betty and I, have cut back just about as much as we can without staying home completely, but I think there are very few people who have followed suit...
Well, It's time to knock off and close up here in the office.... Betty was just out here asking me if I was going to work all night! (Ha!) Not tonight, my dear... I'm headed for the hot tub..... So.... I'm outta here, and YOU, YOU have a GREAT day!!!
(I'll see you right back here just as soon as I can! Okay?)

Here's The Cool, Unusual Fact For Today..
Anyone who thinks that theater tickets are expensive today might consider what happened in 1854. That was the year the famous Academy of Music opened on New York's 14th Street. The prices ranged from $3 to $40 per seat!!!
