I'm
feeling pretty good this morning. My miserable cold apparently is in it's last
stages. Betty and I must visit the doctor's this morning. We both have
appointments. She for her blood pressure and me for blood tests. Just enough
to use up this morning and some of the afternoon, but we'll make an outing of
it and stop somewhere for lunch. Then we'll have to get back home as today
is the end of the month and a lot must get done and into the mail before
tomorrow! I can't eat this morning, (because of the blood tests), but boy the
coffee sure tastes extra good this morning! After all my heart problems back
about 10 years ago we switched to decaffeinated coffee. I thought I'd never
get used to the taste. However, it's kind of like beer... you can drink a
certain kind for years and no other seems to hit the spot. But for some odd
reason you switch and after you drink that brand for awhile, that brand
becomes your favorite. Acquired taste... just like food. When I was a kid I
hated sauerkraut but as I got older I began to really like it.
It's amazing how we change as we pack on the years. Even our attitudes about
many things... When I was a kid our lane was about a mile long. We, my brother
and I, had to trek it every morning and afternoon to and from the school bus.
We never minded it, not even in bad weather as it was something that had to be
done. Now though every time we are coming home and one of the neighbor's kids
are walking back our fairly short lane from the school bus, we feel bad if we
don't stop and pick 'em up. Heck if anything, the kids today need
as much exercise as they can get! Too many McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco's, etc.,
etc., etc... Monday The
beginning of a brand new week. The weekend really flew by. Had a pretty good
weekend other than still fighting my cold. Didn't get much sleep Friday night,
Saturday night, or even last night but my cold is breaking up and I feel
better today than I've felt for most of the last week. I had to call my phone
company again this morning. Well, it may not be my phone company I've
just learned. Almost 2 weeks ago I lost the dial tone on my one phone line
that mainly handles my fax machine and sometimes if I must dial up the WEB. At
end of last month I received a call from an independent Phone company and they
talked me into switching my phone service to them. At any rate when I lost my
phone service I naturally called Verizon as they own the phone lines etc. They
told me that I must contact my phone carrier. After quite a bit of digging,
(as I didn't even receive a bill from them yet), I found a phone number to
reach them. After endless phone menus I got to speak with a live person. She
took all the information an assured me that the line would be repaired by
Friday. (I was calling on Tuesday). As the window of repair, Tuesday through
Friday was so big I asked them to call me before they came out and I gave them
my other phone line's number and also gave them my cell phone number. The girl
even called me back about an hour later and told me they were working on my
phone line, "as we speak". Sooooo when as of this morning I still had a dead
phone line I called them back. After about a half hour of "holding" I finally
reached the same person that had told me "they were working on the lines". She
informed me that when the repair man came out to check the problem that I
wasn't home. I said there was no message on my answer machine and that I had
received no call on my cell phone. "Odd," she said, and asked me to hold while
she checked. When she came back to the phone she said that I no longer had an
account with them and actually I had never had an account with them!
She said she'd have to transfer me to the "customer service" to get things
squared away. When the man got on from customer service he said the same thing
she had said. Of course I said why would they issue a repair order in the
first place, call and tell me they were fixing the phone and then tell me I
wasn't home if I had never had an account with them. They said that back on
April 5th they tried to transfer my account and the transfer fell though, (but
they're not sure why). And of course they don't know how the repair order got
issued, etc., etc., etc......... In other words someone screwed up and no one
knows anything. I asked them if the transfer of services failed on the 5th why
someone hadn't called me to square it away then? After all they spent enough
time selling me on their services in the first place????? Of course no
one knows why..... Here's where I stand now... they are supposed to call me
back within an hour to let me know what phone company I am with so I may call
for repairs. Sooooo if someone calls to talk you into another local phone
service, keep in mind about my "fix it" problems. You might want to ask
them who you can call for repairs should something happen. I'll
keep you posted.
T.G.I.F. Ready or not the weekend is almost here again. This is a great time
of the year for weekend fun. So much is going on and the yard sales and flea
markets are opening back up again. Also, the craft shows. I'm not into the
craft shows but the yard sales and flea markets turn me on! I just love a
bargain. I'm feeling a little better today. I think I would be feeling a lot
better if I could have gotten some decent sleep last night. I was up most of
the night coughing. Oh well, we all know that a cold must take it's course. I
just wish it would take it's course and get the heck away from me! I've
already had enough of it. Still feeling wobbly but must get something done
today. I was going to do some printing and folding today but I just may work
on a web site I'm building for a guy down in Virginia. At least I'll be able
to sit on my butt to do that. It is another beautiful day here in Central
Pennsylvania. It's more like the spring season is supposed to be. Nice and
sunny with a high around the mid 60's. That's more like it! Boy am I glad I
got my grass mowed before I got this miserable cold! I still haven't
gotten my new CD Burner working as fast as it should. I'm starting to think
that maybe my system is just too darn slow. It is getting pretty old for
today's times. It's only a 300 MHZ with 256K of RAM. But that's pretty
slow for today's standards. I was thinking of getting a new computer but just
can't afford one at the moment. I think I just may upgrade this one myself
this time with a new mommy board and late model chip. Something to think about
anyway. Thursday Whoa.....
doggie! Yesterday I started to come down with something... A cold I think....
But today it has REALLY set in! Everything is running... my eyes, my
nose, everything... Talk about my nose... that poor thing is so sore from
blowing it I think it just may fall off! I have about a half of fever also...
Now, about an hour ago I started to develop a cough. Get back from your
computer screen!!! Don't get too close... I don't want you to get whatever
I've got. In about another half hour I'm going to take a break and relax
on my recliner in the living room for an hour or so. I feel like shit... or at
least like the "last rose of summer"... I'm not going to venture outside today
at all. I even got Betty to go to the post office for me. Nope.... I'm in for
the rest of today for sure... The
middle of the week already. Everything went just fine yesterday. I repaired
the roof and didn't get stung even once. I also mowed the lawn, or should I
say the hay field. Officially we're still in a drought here, in Central
Pennsylvania, but the grass is growing so fast you can hear it! 2 weeks ago
not a leaf on the trees and now when I look across the river at the mountain
it's turning as green as grass. I haven't seen the two geese and their babies
that stopped by the other day, I hope they're okay. Last night it got down to
33 degrees, one degree above freezing! Weird weather! Obviously I didn't get
much work done yesterday here, in the office, so I'm going to try to make up
for it today. I'm going to put a audio book on the computer that I borrowed
from the Library and just keep working. I just saw a huge muskrat on the other
side of the canal. Apparently he is enjoying this chilly weather. Boy did I
get a memory flash by seeing him. I remember when I was a kid we used to trap
muskrats and sell their pelts. My brother, George and I used to make some
extra money that way. As we grew up on a Dairy Farm, we had to get up early
enough to clean stalls, milk the cows, feed 'em and bed 'em down before
we went out to check our traps and get ready to go to school! We used to get
up every morning between 4 and 10 after 4 to give us enough time to get every
thing done. We didn't mind though back then as we were expected to get our
chores done and then we could "play around", as Dad used to call it, with
whatever we wanted as long as we weren't late for school. Enough of my
reminiscing today. We're in for a wonderful day today! I sure hope you have a
GOOD one! Tuesday
Another beautiful but cold, (brrrr) day here in central Pennsylvania. That's
just fine with me though. Now that the wasps are back to being groggy I can
get up on the roof and repair the wind damage from about 3 weeks ago. I must
get it done before it gets hot and stays hot as where the damage is, is where
the wasps just love to swarm and build their nests. Hopefully I'll get the job
done today with no stings. I can see myself running off the roof trying to
escape those pesky wasps. (I hate when that happens!)
Looks like a good day to get some things done outdoors. With the days being
nice and long you can still get your normal work finished and still have
daylight to get your spring chores done. Next trip away from the river I'll
have to stop and buy some tomato plants. It's getting to be that time again.
Last year I planted from seeds but I just could not find the tomato seeds I
wanted this year so I'll have to get some plants that are already started. A
good place close to where we live to get plants is Usztic's Greenhouse off of
Mountain Road toward Peter's Mountain. The
beginning of the week already. Boy, did that weekend fly by! It's really
turned cold again here, in Central Pennsylvania. I had to build a fire in our
stoker furnace. Wow, it was so hot last week for 3 days we had the air
conditioners on. Now we have the furnace back on. No wonder the wildlife is
messed up. Oh, speaking of wildlife, 2 geese stopped by in our back yard from
the river yesterday with their new batch of babies. We counted 6 in all. It
looked like the little guys were shivering. Don't blame them, that river must
still be very cold. Don't forget, today is Earth Day. No, I'm not doing
anything special but you might be doing something. At least don't toss that
cigarette out the window or that candy wrapper. I won't be doing either of
those but I don't do them normally anyway so I guess I'm really NOT going to
do anything special. We, Betty and I, are going down to the Big City,
Harrisburg, today to K-Mart to get some water. For quite a few years we have
been distilling our own water. Our distiller went on the blink and lately
we've been buying distilled water. Wouldn't you know it K-Mart has all of
their waters on sale including distilled water. So if you buy Spring Water or
Distilled Water whatever, K-Mart has it pretty cheap. I'm going to "stock up"
with about 15 or 20 gallons of it. I still think that a lot of folks who drink
city water will pay for it over the years with health problems. Let's face it
the chlorine in the water is in very small amounts but chlorine is STILL
poison. Heck we use it in our swimming pools to kill bacteria. But if you
ingest it, even in small amounts over years, it's got to take it's
toll!!! We have our own well so we don't have to worry about chlorine, but our
water does not taste that good at all. I can't see spending money on Spring
Water as it's still loaded with bacteria and germs, so I think if I'm going to
spend good money I'm buying the purest water available.... hence....
Distilled Water. Also, when you mix frozen orange juice with it or coffee or
just about anything the taste is terrific. After all, all you taste is the
juice or coffee as distilled water has no odors or taste! Well, it's back to
work...... Have a GREAT day! Friday
T.G.I.F. Another weekend is almost here. Just a few things that must be done
and It will be time to get ready for a great weekend. On my trip to Harrisburg
and Office Max yesterday I DID indeed buy another CD Burner to update my old
2x. This one is 24x write, 10x re-write and 40x Data Read. $99.95 and a $30
mail-in rebate just made it too cheap at $69.95 to pass up. I installed it
last night and have already made a disk with it. It took about as long to do
that as my old 2x took! I must NOT have the proper drivers or something. This
new one should burn "circles" around my old one. At least this one works on
Windows 2000 as well as Windows 98. My old one would only work in Windows 98.
I've already sent for help at the software website to find out why this new
burner is operating so slow. Hopefully my the next time I post here I'll have
fixed it.
Another great day but there's rain in the air! We're in for some showers
today. I've printed so many fliers the last few days I'm starting to smell
like ink. The bulk mailing has been sent and we're already working on the next
batch. Hopefully they will be done by tomorrow afternoon and those too will go
out this week. Wednesday We
had a record heat day yesterday and they are looking for another today! WOW!
Unbelievable for this time of the year, here in Central Pennsylvania. The
animals and the foliage are completely fooled into thinking it's
summer. I saw birds galore on my heart walk this morning including blue jays,
cardinals, and robins as well as the usual blackbirds, wrens, etc. All of a
sudden the rabbits have come "out of the woodwork" as well! I won't be doing
any work outdoors again today. I took the time last evening to get our 2 air
conditioners ready and we'll be turning them on very soon. It was roasting in
here yesterday. Hopefully we'll be able to keep it cool as the day heats up. I
still have gotten my one phone line repaired. I use it mostly for faxing so if
any of you have tried to fax that's why it's been ringing busy. Just call me
with any orders 'til I get it back on line. I lost it the other night in the
storm. I want to make sure the problem is not indoors before I call the phone
company. If the problem is indoors they will charge a fortune for the
service call and I'll still have to repair it myself.
Another beautiful day here, in Central Pennsylvania, with unseasonably high
temperatures! While taking our morning heart walk I noticed that just about
all of the trees have some green on them. The weeping willows are about half
way to full foliage. The huge Maple tree in our back yard, that provides
most of the shade for our deck, has already started with new foliage. It's one
of the first trees in the spring to come to life and the last of the
year in the fall to lose it's leaves. It's only been about a week since I
mowed the grass and it's ready to be mowed again. In this kind of weather
things really grow fast! Monday
Monday already, the beginning of a brand new week! What a GREAT start for a
new week here in Central Pennsylvania. Unseasonably warm temperatures!
Tomorrow they are calling for record breaking temperatures! Wow! I just shut
the furnace off yesterday morning and today we're walking around in shorts!
Spent all day yesterday working on my WEB site. I must have overloaded it as
it was down for about an hour and a half this morning. So if you were trying
to get here earlier, that's what was wrong. Everything seems to be fine now,
but that's one of the reasons I'm running late getting up this post. Normally
my web hosting company has very little downtime but I guess things wear out
and require replacement. I sent an Email to them about it but 15 minutes after
I mailed it my site was back up and running. T.G.I.F.
Yep it’s Friday again! Would you believe that all the money I spend each
month for a high speed cable connection and this morning it’s apparently out!
Yep nothing… I’m now working on the WEB with my FREE modem connection,
NetZero. Yep saved by a FREE one. Hard to believe that a FREE ISP is more
dependable than an expensive cable connection. Such is life. Better than no
connection at all. My printer ink is in, down at the big city, Harrisburg, so
I’ll have to run down and pick that up this afternoon. Since I’m close I’d
better stop by Sam’s Club for paper. Getting very low on that. Hopefully I’ll
get some work done here in the office before the end of the day. I’ll be
working this weekend for sure. It’s supposed to rain around here most of the
weekend so I won’t feel TOO bad trapped in the office. Right
now I’m going to post the link for the jokes and then I’ll have to figure out
how to get them up on the site. I’m working on my laptop right now and I don’t
have an FTP program in it. I’m working in Microsoft Word right now and that
has a built in FTP program so I’ll be able to post this daily. Have a GREAT
weekend… Thursday, April 11 Another
beautiful day here, in Central Pennsylvania! Spring weather is here for sure!
Do you like FREE
stuff? FREE software, FREE PC stuff, FREE for the automobile,
Electronics, Entertainment, Gifts and much, much more. Well if you do, check
out this site and don't forget to bookmark it for future reference: FREE STUFF.
I just love Free stuff and I never get tired of looking for it. You never
know when you might find that prize. I guess that's why I love to go to yard
sales. Yard sales are starting to come alive here, again for the summer
around here. I'll have to check 'em out for this Saturday and maybe visit
some. Wednesday The
middle of the week and all is fine. At least around here it is. I sure hope
you're doing well also. Tax deadline is almost here. 5 more days. If you
don't have yours done yet you should be able to finish it over the weekend.
The nice thing now is if you're working at the last minute and find you need
another form or two, you can go online and get them. I wish you the best. Looks
like we got through Monday just fine. It's supposed to rain here most of
today although it seems quite warm. The river keeps receding so I guess
they're not getting any rain upstate. This is a bad time of the year for our
heating system. We have a stoker furnace. That means the fire must burn at
all times, (of course we shut in down in the summer time.) However just to
keep the fire alive in the spring and fall it about roasts you out of the
house. Of course we could let it go out in the day time but it's a bitch to
build a fire in the darn thing so we just put up with the heat. Monday The
beginning of the week already. Hope you had a GREAT weekend. I had plans to
get so much done over the weekend and got VERY little done. I did get the
lawn mowed for the first time this year. So I guess I did get something done,
but damn little here, in the office. I still think all of this junk or
something that we have placed in space has our weather screwed up. It's been
unusually warm this winter and then on Saturday it snowed!!! Not
a big accumulation, but it did snow. Don't believe me? Well, have a look for
yourself. Here's the Jeep
and here's the Deck
at the back of the house. By the time I took these pictures some had already
melted off. T.G.I.F.
Ready or not it's here again... The end of the week. Just a few more things
to get done and a few more hours and our weekend begins. GREAT! Thursday We're
on the back slide of the week as we approach Friday. The doc decided to try
yet another drug for Betty's high blood pressure problem. Most of the time
she orders her medicine by mail order so the doc gave her a prescription for
a small amount of the new medicine to "hold her over" until she
could order it from her mail order store. So we decided to stop at the
Library so I could check the Web for some prices. Yeah I know it was only a
small amount but sometimes these days pills can cost a couple of bucks each.
So after a couple of quick searches we decided to stop on the Linglestown
road at Rite Aid for the prescription. The quantity was for only 12 capsules.
Their, (Rite Aid's), web site said that the charge for 30 capsules was $15.88
so I figured that for 12 it would be about half of that. They ended up
charging $26.09 for the 12 capsules AFTER a $2.80 "Senior
Citizen" discount!!! Wow!!! I protested some, but only a little, as I
wasn't positive that I had the prices correct and it was so far off that I
thought that I must have made an error. 'Til I got home and re-checked it on
my computer that is. No, I was right, those were the prices quoted on the
WEB. Would you believe. I can see them adding an extra charge for getting
less than a number, (30), that they normally sell, but over 10 bucks on a $26
dollar item??? That's a little much. Apparently we must head down that
way again this afternoon and I'm talking along the WEB print out and see what
they have to say about it. I know it's only 10 bucks but remember that's 10
bucks above what they are to charge for 30 capsules not the 12 that was
ordered! That's almost 4 times what it should have cost! If you're getting
prescription medicine, go on the WEB and check prices. Apparently, medicine
is worth "what the traffic will bear", or what they can get away
with! Call them on it. Just because they wear white coats they are NOT
doctors so that doesn't give them the right to steal, "Like we give our
Doctors." Oh, do I sound bitter. Have you been to the doctor's
lately? It's just absolutely unbelievable!!! The prices they charge,
that is. Enough railing for today! Have a look at today's jokes... hopefully
they will give your day a lift! The middle of the week and all is well. Almost anyway. We have another trip to the doc's this morning for Betty. Noting radical he's just been trying different medications to get her blood pressure under control. That will take up most of this morning and early afternoon. I'll be back here in plenty of time to get some work done though. I'll probably work 'til at least 9 this evening so I should be able to get something done. By tomorrow I'll be redoing this page and I'll be taking off all of last month's posts and placing them in the archives. That way the page should load much faster for you. I like to put on at least 3 days of posts before making the archive post. I received a funny Email from my good friend, Colleen Kennedy that I'd like to share with you. It's especially funny if you're like me and believe that all law abiding citizens should own guns for pleasure and for protection. At any rate if you're against 'em you may still find this amusing. Number
of physicians in the US: 700,000. Tuesday I'm
running very late getting this post up today. Seems like this is the only day
that anyone can call me on the phone. Heck the phone's been ringing off the
hook. Don't get me wrong I like phone calls even if they don't contain
orders. But sometimes you can get overwhelmed with them. At any rate things
are really moving along pretty well today beyond being very late on just
about everything. I did see something on ABC's Morning Show this morning that
I wanted to pass along to you. Go to the Dodger's
baseball home page site and then click on Sarah's
Take on the left of the page. Sarah is a young woman, (about 30ish),
from Anderson, Texas. She just got the job as a writer for the Dodger's Web
Site. The remarkable thing about Sarah is that she has Cerebral Palsy. Each
individual letter that she types on her keyboard is done with a stick that
she holds in
her month. Take a minute and read her column. She's quite a writer isn't she?
She is a "die hard" Dodger fan and also has her own website also
called Sarah's Dodger Place.
Check out her site if you get some time as it is also remarkable. April
Fool's Day!!! GREAT!!! Did you have any fun with it yet? Don't
let it pass you by as it only comes once a year. Nothing radical now... just
fun stuff. We had a wonderful weekend. Spring has definitely sprung here, in
Central Pennsylvania.
